I need a second opinion

Hey there, working on my mom’s 2018 procharged Camaro SS now cuz the belt broke (again) I think that the super charger is misaligned and causing the belt to walk and then break. This is the second time the belt has broke within like 5-7k miles. It broke in December pretty catastrophically, I had assumed at the time it was because the front main seal had leaked and got oil all over the belt so we chalked it up to that. But it just happened again and (to me) it seems like the super charger is very likely causing the belt to walk, in the fourth picture you can see how hard it is pressed against the inner lip of the supercharger pully
Do y’all think that is the case too? If not the belt walking what else do you think is causing the failures?

You're get a lot more the one more opinion.

He needs lots of possible causes, which he will need to check each one.

What belt is it?
Gates green was the go-to when I had a procharged mustang. Some people liked the RPM but that's discontinued.

Gates green belts are still the truth

The small idler pulley kept toasting the bearings in the kit is what kept doing the same to mine. Found out there was an upgraded larger idler pulley.

Ok so then the pulleys are out of alignment

Find a laser pulley alignment tool

Is that even the right belt? Looks too skinny to me.

The belt broke that’s why it looks to skinny. You can see the strip that broke off in one of the pics in the post

Got it — my bad.

Supercharger pulley looks like it’s about an 1/8th of an inch closer to the front of the car

It might just me me but it looks like thats the wrong belt and not wide enough. You'll need the procharger owners manual and it'll specify a belt for your application.

Put a level to it and see if it’s straight, if not then you’ll need to find out why.

🫡 thank you will do

Was this installed at the dealership or aftermarket and has it always done this or just been a recent issue?
Also your moms got taste!
justLeDuck@reddit (OP)
It was aftermarket but done by a 3rd party dealership before my mom bought the car used a year or so ago

That’s the wrong belt. The belt need to fit from flange to flange if it fits properly on the crank than the pull on the pro charger needs to be changed and vice versa
