Are you doing any public nostalgia events this year?

I'm going to go a nostalgia music festival in October in Fort Worth, TX. Any of you doing anything for nostalgia this year?
More-read-than-eddit@reddit
I’m going to the tour where Belle & Sebastian play the If You’re Feeling Sinister album front to back.
AndrewInMN@reddit
There’s a lot of those bands I’d like to see in a club, theater or maybe even an arena but holy shit do I have zero desire to go to a festival. I used to not mind them.
mtron32@reddit
The only way I go to a festival is VIP, strictly for the posh bathroom access because fuck a port a John
William_Shaftner@reddit
Was just gonna say this. Though people are catching on
fenderputty@reddit
One of my favorite band, porcupine tree, does pretty long sets. Saw them once at floor level and my wife and I said never again. We’re doing seated shows or nothing else. They did two encores and like it was amazing but also I ain’t built like that no more 😂
Stimpinstein22@reddit
Especially a festival in fucking Texas…
Flashy-Share8186@reddit
I can’t do festivals or even arenas any more.
Coitus_lnterruptus@reddit (OP)
Yeah, I'm not really looking forward to the festival, but I figure this will be the last time I'll ever catch Slayer in driving distance, so I'm doing it.
BareWant-@reddit
Wait, is this festival a time machine disguised as a lineup? I’m down for some serious throwback vibes!
degeneratesumbitch@reddit
Last time I saw Snot in concert I ended up in a strangers basement sleeping in turtle piss next to a turtle.
nartimus@reddit
Just saw The Prodigy live at edc. Highly recommend seeing them. One of the best live sets I’ve seen.
AshDogBucket@reddit
Without Keith? 😭
Alien_Nicole@reddit
I saw Stone Temple Pilots and Godsmack last week. It was amazing!
Next month, I'm going to see Evanescence.
Thinking of going to see Rob Zombie in August.
Blackbird136@reddit
I thought it said Sick Sad World!! And I kinda wish it did lol.
iambigsky@reddit
With Mystik Spiral as the headliner
Blackbird136@reddit
Please. Because I still have a crush on Trent. 😂
AshDogBucket@reddit
Me too
SmallRocks@reddit
Are there familiar faces all around you?
No_Perspective_4550@reddit
Here ya go.
she-dont-use-jellyyy@reddit
My kid and I are going to see the Goo Goo Dolls in August!
dz1087@reddit
I’m seeing them in Orange Beach, AL in August!
AshDogBucket@reddit
Honestly... whenever I've seen the artists from my coming of age years, I've generally been disappointed. Foo fighters many years back kind of maxed me out on disappointing shows. I can pay a lot less to see local artists who are playing their hearts out and really need my support. I can even pay less to see local cover bands who generally play the same songs better than the original artist and who work their asses off and have the decency to at least pretend they're having a good time.
I'm a musician and it's no fun watching an artist when I know i can do it better than them. Most of the times I've seen our generation's performers who've been doing this for decades... it just looks like they should've retired a long time ago to do something they enjoy.
zenlittleplatypus@reddit
Wow, what a line up!
CrashPow77@reddit
I'm hitting Sick New World in DFW, Jimmy Eat World 25th anniversary tour for Bleed American, and Metallica at The Sphere.
With a lot of pop tours being canceled for low ticket sales, it's good to see older rock bands still selling well.
epcot_1982@reddit
Nice! We just did Sick New World in Vegas and it was great! Also went to the Sphere while there to see Wizard of Oz. Not a band but it was fucking cool
CrashPow77@reddit
That's awesome! Both SNW fests his year have really good lineups. Slightly jealous only yours got Acid Bath though!
snow1868@reddit
I'm thinking about that Weezer, Shins, Silversun Pickups combo coming to Orlando in October. Hopefully tickets come down closer to the date.
marcos_MN@reddit
Man. I have a really great Silversun Pickups story
I bought tickets with a bunch of co-workers to see them play with Manchester Orchestra at the State Theater in downtown Minneapolis, way back — like 20 years ago or so.
Well, we had balcony seats. I went out front of the theater to have a smoke while MO was winding down. I was approached by a group of VERY drunk young men who explained that they were out for a bachelor party (stag go for my UK pals), but the groom wasn’t able to show up.
They wanted me to buy the extra ticket, and I said I wasn’t interested.
Well, we hear Pickups start their headline set, and they all excitedly go back inside to take their seats. But they hadn’t found a buyer for their extra ticket, so they just left it on the windowsill of the theater near the front doors.
I finished my smoke and casually grabbed the ticket. I thought, “couldn’t be worse than the balcony seats we have.”
Turned out, it was a front row, center stage seat. I walked right up to those seats filled with dudes I didn’t know, and sat down.
They looked over at me and the one closest to me said, “we’re just gonna pretend this didn’t happen.”
I’m down there near the band, having a blast. They play Lazy Eye, and I make eye contact with the incredibly hot bassist. I mouth, “I LOVE YOU,” to her during the song, and she reciprocates.
Then, at the end of the song, she leaned over the edge of the stage and handed me her pick.
I still have it to this day, and it all happened because some douchebag bro couldn’t show up to his own bachelor party.
Easily one of my fondest Minneapolis memories.
PhoneJazz@reddit
I saw them last year, the bassist (Nikki) is 50 now and still hot
marcos_MN@reddit
Doesn’t surprise me, and I’m sure she is
snow1868@reddit
That's awesome.
amandathelibrarian@reddit
Saw Silversun Pickups a couple of weeks ago and they were fantastic. They sound so good live.
therealpopkiller@reddit
I either have seen or am seeing: Smashing Pumpkins, Hum, Tripping Daisy, Nerf Herder, Summercamp, Toadies, Local H, Smoking Popes, Ridel High, Corrosion of Conformity, Failure, Our Lady Peace, The Verve Pipe, and Ivy, with more to come
flowbkwrds@reddit
Went to an Acid Bath concert
Jaelma@reddit
Oaklawn? I was there.
flowbkwrds@reddit
Houston. Had to represent Louisiana.
flambethegreat@reddit
Same!
umlaut@reddit
That's just rad that they're touring
starrie@reddit
L7 final tour
Moxie_Stardust@reddit
I saw them last year, but I'd bought my tickets before the lineup was announced. Was a nice surprise.
lifeat24fps@reddit
Going to see The Breeders, the Nekromantix, and Echo and The Bunnymen next month. Not together of course, that would be a very weird show.
Moxie_Stardust@reddit
I'm seeing the Breeders too, but not really a nostalgia thing for me because I didn't get into them back in the day.
Coitus_lnterruptus@reddit (OP)
I've never seen The Breeders, but I would love to. I've been a Pixies fan for decades, always loved the Frank Black and Breeders stuff too.
lifeat24fps@reddit
I've seen the Breeders before, they're always excellent. Nekromantix I'm really looking forward to because there just isn't a lot of psychobilly rolling through NYC these days. I would be eating so well if I lived on the West Coast.
I'm tempering my expectations for Echo and the Bunnymen because I was told, after buying tickets, that it's not a very good live show these days. We shall see...
KMFDM__SUCKS@reddit
KMFDM on the ticket? Wow that sucks
Number1Framer@reddit
Yeah I can't even picture them at a festival. I can't picture most of these bands playing during daytime. This is night time music dammit!
mtron32@reddit
Exactly, I’d prefer to see any of them at a club around 10PM
ButterscotchAware402@reddit
I'll be seeing Tori Amos in August. I've seen her 11 times but not in 19 years.
LavenderPaintbrush@reddit
I'm going to quite a few shows this summer but none of them will be the nostalgic type. I am thinking about seeing Evanescence, but it will have to be resale tickets at this point and it's not till October so I have time to think.
I was also going to see Lily Allen, but changed my mind when I heard she isn't doing any of her older songs.
Mean_Cod9156@reddit
Boy Harsher and The Dark, wild.
latcady@reddit
I'd love to see The Smashing Pumpkins but they are not coming anywhere near me.
Mateo0178@reddit
Aftershock. Sunday is peak 90s!
jolly_rodger42@reddit
Going to a Jimmy Eat World and MCR concert in September
AnglinImagePhoto@reddit
Yup. Currently waiting for Godsmacks set after watching Stone Temple Pilots Slay 🤘🏻👊🏼🤘🏻
rizaroni@reddit
I'm seeing Ludacris in the upcoming week, lmao
LUDAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
schwing710@reddit
It’s actually crazy how many bands in this lineup lost their lead singer
Quiet_Molasses_3362@reddit
Weird Al in a month, Primus a cpl days later
stereoscopic_@reddit
YESSSS my favorite band! /s
RoiVampire@reddit
I thought about this but I just can’t stomach a festival that allows Manson to participate. Dude is just the worst.
Nicobeak@reddit
Hum in Chicago at Slide Away
krillthemalll@reddit
Thats cool that they are still around!
Nicobeak@reddit
They released an album during covid that is amazing
djdecimation@reddit
Went to Rockville
JHerbY2K@reddit
Pity the band without a sick logo
OtherAcctWasBanned11@reddit
I’m going to see Muse and Bloc Party in July.
_Maxxx1mus_@reddit
I'm seeing Paul Oakenfold and The Crystal Method this summer 🤘😄🤘
zombie_overlord@reddit
Yeah, there's a fest here in a few months. Just going to one day of it so I can see Slayer and Suicidal Tendencies
bikingmpls@reddit
I saw bunch of great concerts back in the day. For some reason now it would feel… incongruent.
PS How old are these musicians lol. When I saw Melvins in like 96 they weren’t young. Same with slayer. Saw them a couple of times too in late 90s.
ConcreteKeys@reddit
I watched Tales from The Crypt to prepare me to watch my favorite musicians on stage. We rock out with the varicose veins out.
bikingmpls@reddit
I had that soundtrack but only for a couple songs - mainly Pantera.
starrie@reddit
Buzzo is 62. I saw him a few months ago and Melvins were unreal. Going to see them again with Mike patton and tomahawk
bikingmpls@reddit
Only 62? Not bad at all. Maybe because I was 18 everyone seemed old to me.
starrie@reddit
He started melvins in 83 when buzz was 19.
Everyone is super old when you’re a kid.
bikingmpls@reddit
Makes sense then. Young guy. Good for them to continue performing - living the dream
big_z_0725@reddit
Tabloid decoys, pitiful excuses?
aNaToMiCaL_Zer0@reddit
Saw Failure already this year and seeing them again in October. Going to see Primus soon. Also, Melvins later this year with Tomahawk (members from The Jesus Lizard, Helmet, Faith No More and Melvins).
I feel like I'm back in high school!
GasStationChicken-@reddit
I saw Toadies last month!
Adrasteia-One@reddit
I would love to see Deftones again. Last time I saw them was 2000 when Taproot and Incubus opened for them. It was amazing.
Checktheusernombre@reddit
I saw that tour too!
Adrasteia-One@reddit
It was crazy good, wasn't it? Each band killed it. It was my first time seeing Incubus since I had just discovered them earlier that year, so I was really excited.
hahahahahahahaFUCK@reddit
Saw them with Dillinger Escape Plan back in 2011. Greg came on for Maynard’s part in Passenger. What a night.
Lughaidh_@reddit
I’ve been done with festivals for a long time.
HalusN8er@reddit
Going to see Tomahawk and the Melvins in about a month.
NullnVoid669@reddit
I just saw Mike Patton with The Avett Brothers last week. Definitely a different vibe for Mike but it was the most fun show I’ve seen in a while. Their songs together are awesome too.
starrie@reddit
Me too! Buffalo at the end of July
Coitus_lnterruptus@reddit (OP)
I'm going to see them in July (Austin)
HalusN8er@reddit
I guess mine is in July too in Nashville. I was thinking it was mid June.
marcos_MN@reddit
If Deftones come to Minneapolis, I am 100% gonna attend.
bikingmpls@reddit
Saw many great concerts here. Including a few from the poster - slayer, Melvins…
whyisthissticky@reddit
Riot Fest is for xennials
Inglorious186@reddit
I went to that a couple years ago. I finally got the chance to see a bunch of bands that I missed out on when they were first huge.
Such a good show and then I went on to see System and Avenged Sevenfold in Chicago
Jurd5@reddit
Wu-Tang and Bone Thugs ☠️
t_sdad@reddit
Same here, and I'm going with pretty much the same group of dudes that I went with back in '02 for the Iron Flag tour. Plus a few wives now.
Jurd5@reddit
I’m praying it doesn’t get cancelled. I preordered VIP tickets for Bone, Triple 6ix, Tech N9ne, and Quik and they canceled the whole thing
rudebella@reddit
I saw Dance Hall Crashers last month - was so excited they did a couple of east coast gigs.
frooootloops@reddit
Honestly my goal is Christopher Cross and Toto.
PickledPixie83@reddit
Sailing is my jam.
Serrajuana@reddit
I saw NIN in February. I don't think it counts as it was partially for the Tron:Ares soundtrack and had remixed versions with Boys Noize, but it's the closest I've got.
IdioticPrototype@reddit
I'd do some pretty sketchy shit to be able to see a few of these bands live.
Sweet-Situation-8224@reddit
Nope, we're going to see Kbong & Johnny Cosmic and then headed to Beyond Wonderland at the Gorge.
Adventurous_Pin_344@reddit
A few shows I've seen in recent memory: Jawbreaker, LCD Soundsystem, Stereolab, Dinosaur Jr.
Maybe LCD is the only one that scratched my nostalgia itch. I didn't really listen to the others when I was younger, but they were great shows.
This year, I'm going to King Gizzard's Field of Vision which is not nostalgic, but going to be 500% awesome.
TheLeener@reddit
Can’t wait until When We Were Young next year!
Working5daysaWeek@reddit
This isn't my kind of music at all, but my husband would love this lineup.
bissimo@reddit
I'm probably going to this now that you told me about it
ButForRealsTho@reddit
SmallRocks@reddit
That lineup looks dope! I’m surprised by a few names on there like AAF, I thought they were long dead.
morally_bankrupt80@reddit
Just caught the Toadies with Local H two weeks ago. Got to take my 11yo daughter. Great time!
PlagueDrWily@reddit
Taking my kids to Guns N Roses and Public Enemy this summer.
flytingnotfighting@reddit
I live in the Midwest, my show options are limited af But we did see the Dropkick Murphys
fundy3000@reddit
I’ll be at this one actually.
folksongcat@reddit
I would go to this if I wasn’t going to be away on vacay lol. I think my niece and her husband are going. I’ve been wanting to see Deftones but tickets have sold out quickly here the past few times they’ve come.
napalmthechild@reddit
Just went to the Poison the Well and Converge show here in SF. Nostalgia factor hit level 100 because Mike Patton showed up and did a whole ass set with The Armed
OwlImpressive2931@reddit
Bringing my kids to see Rush.
CalgaryChris77@reddit
That sounds amazing. Seeing AC/DC in Edmonton.
VinylHighway@reddit
Seeing the Wallflowers in Sept or Oct
