I want to upgrade my GPU from 1660 super to 5070 RTX 5070 12GB. Is this a reasonable upgrade?

I haven't been keeping up with the latest developments in GPUs.
Is this a good upgrade?
Do you have a better suggestion?
Thanks in advance.

Big upgrade, but if you m just gaming get a 9070 non xt instead if at same price as 5070, its generally faster.
tankhead200@reddit
This. Think the 9070 has 16gb over the 12, as well

Its massive. But whats rest of computer like
anon58588@reddit (OP)
Specs :
CPU : Ryzen 5 3600
Mobo : MSI B450 Tomahawk Max
PSU : Be Quiet System Power 11 750W
RAM : G.Skill ddr4 3600mhz cl16 16GB

It will be fine, maybe held back a little but still work well

A 5070 would increase performance by 326% compared with a 1660 Super, more than quadrupling performance at the same resolution and settings. It would be a massive upgrade.
But, the 5070 consumes about 100 more watts than your 1660 Super, so make sure power supply can handle it. You probably need a 650 watt PSU.
See the relative performance data for your current card here: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpu-specs/geforce-gtx-1660-super.c3458

Thank you,
I have a PSU 750W 80 Plus Bronze
I was wondering if τhere is a better alternative thαν the 5070
CustardCivil@reddit
Its good gpu but what's your gpu wattage You atleast need a decent 650w if you want to future proof it get 750w then so you have more headroom
anon58588@reddit (OP)
Be Quiet System Power 11 750W
CustardCivil@reddit
Then thats more than enough for rtx5070

Thank you

It really depends on the rest of your components. Are you using an old 4 core CPU still? Do you have a 10+ year old low tier low power PSU? Since a RTX5070 is more than three times the performance of your old GPU do you have a monitor that can take advantage of the higher performance?

As long as you have a 1440p or 4k monitor it should be worth it. Even at 1440p however I would expect your CPU to hold back your performance in AAA games.

AMD might have an cheaper alternative but ignoring that, yeah
I just upgraded from a 2070 super to a 5070ti and it's a night and day difference, I don't' game as much as I use to, but I do local LLMs to learn more about them, pretty good so far
Temmehkan@reddit
I made that jump and I'm enjoying it, that being said I built my pc in 2024 and only piece I didn't do was my gpu so it's a very recent build otherwise

Mine is 5 years old
CPU : Ryzen 5 3600

Hey, based on the rest of your specs it will be a really good upgrade and should run basically everything at 2k resolution (overkill for 1080p)
Assuming that your main use case is gaming, with your budget I would go for the AMD RX 9070 which heavily outperforms the RTX 5070 and is cheaper + a better cpu (5600, 5800 variants) or possibly hunt for a discounted 9070XT which is comparable to a 5070Ti.
Pumciusz@reddit
Sure.
If it's the right call depends on your CPU, psu, if your case can fit it, what will you do with it, the price, and price of other GPUs like Rx 9070/XT, 5060ti 16gb, Rx 9060xt 16gb etc.

a 5070 is a good card..but maybe not for you.
What are your specs? your PSU wattage? maximum budget?

PSU : Be Quiet System Power 11 750W
CPU : Ryzen 5 3600 ( a little bit old but I have no problem)
Budget : 600 euros
