Bridgestone Potenza Sport EVO Is a New Daily Driver Tire for Modern Performance Cars

Modern cars want sharp steering, wet grip, reasonable tread life, and low rolling resistance. This tire aims for balance over pure dry grip.

I'm really just here to talk about Rampart.

Michelin pilot sports are amazing, but the one consistent shortfall I hear from everyone is their numb steering feel. I get that non enthusiasts prefer that, but if there’s a product that matches PS with CUP 2 level of steering feel, I’d like to try that for my next tyre.

I’m a fan of ecs02, they give pretty good steering feel. Hated ps4s I had

Continental Extreme Contacts BAY BEE!!!

I’ll always buy Conti’s when they’re a choice. Always had good experiences and no stupid issues (I’m looking at you, Pirelli).

I don't have the money to try every tire, but if this is in the same category as the DWS06+, I'm hard pressed to switch knowing how good of a the Conti is. It really hits the perfect balance for me.

I have mostly praises for them but performance -wise, they really do prioritize comfort over responsiveness. The sidewalls seem a bit soft to me and I did have one completely blow through the sidewalk in a freak accident. Luckily tire rack got me squared away with a replacement but for my GTI I am looking at alternatives like Michelin, Goodyear and Bridgestone for a more sport oriented handling characteristic.

I had a set of the Bridgestone RE970AS on my RX-8 before, and liked the grip, response, and road feel a lot. The only downside to them, really, was that they were loud and fairly stiff. I had PS4AS on another car, and while they were more comfortable and quiet, they did feel more greasy in terms of breakaway characteristics. I've heard good things about the DWS06 but haven't had a chance to drive a car with them yet.
rabbit__eater@reddit
It really is super subjective and depends on the vehicle they're attached to. DWS06+'s do have grip in spades which I very much appreciate. But some feel is lost at the wheel.
NittyB@reddit
I can see that. What's your sidewall height? I run 245/45s and get decent response
rabbit__eater@reddit
Those are thick sidewalls! I have 255/35R19's on my GLI. The 19's obviously contribute to a rough ride but after I got the dws06+'s it made a world of difference. Only problem to me is the way it feels on quick angle changes. It's my wife's car now and for her the smooth ride is paramount. But the stock hankook summer 225/45R18's blew it away in terms of response, and even the cheap Otani 255's I had on the 19's before were more direct in feel. Wanna do 245/40's on the GTI
Funderstruck@reddit
I think it’s more in the line of the Conti Sport 02
NittyB@reddit
You're right I mis read the article.

Dws06 is an all season. This is a summer tire that competes with conti ecs02

So, Bridgestone continues the trend of not offering their performance tyres for cars using a 16 inch wheel.
Yes, I know the Potenza RE005 is available in 16 inch sizes, but it's frustrating that manufacturers aren't offering their main performance tyres for smaller cars.
Thomas_633_Mk2@reddit
Honestly I'm just happy that the RE005 is still being offered in 15/16 at all. Even if it's still suboptimal sized for the Mazda (recommended tyre is 185/55 R15, am running 195/50 R15 RE004s) and it's not a real performance tyre, it's still so far beyond the capacity of a 2003 hatchback with 111hp that it doesn't matter. They could easily have just made it 17s and up like their other tyres.
Low-Umpire236@reddit
Don’t they use recycled rubber and get flats more often than Michelin?
