I feel like the bodyguard 2.0 killed every other .380 caliber gun and has necessitated innovation in this caliber.

So i'm in the process of downsizing on guns, and i've decided to stick with 380 as my pistol caliber, getting rid of my 9mms. I've been in the process of looking for another 380 to pick up for next year. ( I limit myself to buying 1 gun per year) when I realized there's simply nothing in that space that provides any actual upgrade over my bg 2.0. I've been looking at some other 380s such as the p365-380, but the issue is I can't justify these. The bg 2.0 has a 12+1 or 10+1 capacity. A lot of other 380s don't even reach 10. And another issue most of these guns are much larger than the bg (while often having less capacity). And the BIGGEST overall issue is i'm accurate with the gun and it already has pretty much no recoil. I'm about as accurate with my bg 2.0 as I am with my 9mm shield plus, while being able to shoot way faster due to less recoil. So I can't even justify moving to a BIGGER 380 to have an easier shooting gun, since I already find the bg 2.0 easy to shoot. The main competitor to the bg 2.0 is probably the lcp max, and even though they're upgrading the Max with the magpull grip, the lcp does not compare in terms of accuracy, so I doubt the upgraded version will either. But we will see.
Honestly it's looking like my next pistol is gonna be...another bg 2.0 Maybe in a different color or some shit idk. I was really hoping i'd at least be able to find like a good 15 rounder, but even if I do it's hard to justify going from 13 to 15 rounds with a gun several times the size. I think we need to see some real innovation in guns that shoot this caliber at this point, or else I feel like the bg 2.0 is just the best overall option. Maybe they should try to build in a higher capacity? I do feel like Smith should offer a 380 that's around shield plus size that isn't the EZ version, with at least 15 round mags. I'm open to recommendations for a new 380, but it's not looking good.

Eh, my wife has the Bodyguard 2.0 and I have a P365-380 that I keep in my backpack. I prefer the P365-380 design and size for me. If I was a smaller woman, sure the Bodyguard 2.0 might be a better choice.

Glad to hear you're more of a larger woman

Smith & Wesson QC is shit, I need to be able to trust my carry gun.
LCP Max has been around 4 times longer and unlike the Bodyguard 2.0, they ship with the sights on straight and you don’t need to polish the feed ramp to help it not be ammo picky. It’s also more pocketable with the same capacity 🤷🏻♂️ and a new “micro RXM” version is coming out in a few weeks.
For 25-50% less money, I’ll take the LCP Max every time. It’s not a range toy and I don’t have soft hands, I don’t need it to shoot comfy. I need it to shoot 100% of the time.

Some real LCP haters in here lol
Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit
I’m used to it lol.
Even if the BG2.0 didn’t have all of its QC issues, the LCP Max is still a better pocket pistol because it actually is concealable in most pockets 😂 barrel, slide, and grip length do count when it comes to pocket concealment lol

Yes, love my lcp max. Threw in mcarbo trigger and spring kit. Whole new gun now.
Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit
Lol I’ve thrown everything they make at this one 😂 next is getting it ported 😮💨

Red dot? Man I'll have to look onto that! I would recommend talon slide grips! love to pocket cary mine.
Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit
Yep, talon is what’s on the one in the pic 👍 and it’s a green dot, the Viridian RFx1 custom, they made it for the LCP Max before releasing it for the Bodyguard 2.0.
Ruger also makes an enclosed emitter red dot for the LCP Max, which is passively illuminated with fiber optic. It’s only available attached to the gun though, so I just ordered the whole thing today 😂 so I can put the optic on the Magpul version
droid6@reddit
These slide grips, might have remove your dot to install, but i think it's worth it.
Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit
Maybe it’s because I have fleshy fingers lol but I feel like the slide serrations on the LCP Max are more than aggressive enough for me to rack it with ease. In fact, after range trips, I have to clean my dead skin out of the serrations 😂

Agreed s&w just had a major recall or idk if you would even call it that. I don't even know how public they were about it just know a lot of the BPS had to send all there firearms back.
Maximum_Dweeb4473@reddit
You know what, I did overhear at my LGS talking about having to send “them all back” like last Thursday or Friday and there was a stack of boxes that I now realize were Smith & Wesson boxes 💀 blue and white cardboard lol
CRIMSEN15@reddit
Yeah, if I had to take a guess they're probably going to just run through quick QC of all the firearms sent back and probably just resell them all back
but come to find out any kind of trigger guard safety like some big stores like to use on displayed firearms. could put any kind of pressure on the sides of the trigger evidently can severely damage the firearm.
I will probably see this posted in their new manuals and nothing else done.

Interesting, my experience has been almost the complete opposite. I hear tale of S&W QC issues but haven't experienced any yet. I own/have owned half a dozen S&W's and haven't had issues with any of them. The BG 2.0 has been accurate and reliable out of the box. The lcp Max I had had major accuracy issues. Altho I never had and reliability issues, I just couldn't be confident I'd hit anything with it. I don't regularly pocket carry, as I tend to have my pockets full of other crap(wallet, keys, phone, knife, flashlight), so I'm not an authority on pocket carry. But from the practice and short trips I've done with pocket carry, they feel about the same imo.
I am interested to revisit the lcp Max with the magpul upgrade.

Ruger LCP max lyfe

I don’t know about the first part of that, but S&W’s success with the BG 2.0 is going to spawn a bunch of copycat pocket .380 guns from the other manufacturers. And that’s a good thing.

Sometimes you find a gun that suits you and you can just shoot it better than anything else. Specs and fashion don't matter. When you find a gun that you can shoot well, stick with it.

Have you looked into the Ruger Security 380? The look of the slide and front sight drew me in and the super light slide sold me on it. Granted, I’ve only got about 500 rounds through it, but has proven to be pretty solid
Br0wns80@reddit
This is a good answer. I have one as well as the Bodyguard 2.0. While I am still working on accuracy issues with the BG, the Security 380 is a laser. Maybe because it has more weight and is bigger. I would recommend you go rent one and see for yourself. My father bought the S&W EZ 380 but I am really not a fan of the grip safety on it. I replaced it for him with a lower profile one because he didn't like it either. But it shoots well and is small enough to easily conceal. I just don't see a reason for a grip safety on a gun like that. Give the Ruger Security 380 a run. You have nothing to lose.
Happy Shooting

Here’s an idea… Hop off the .380’s lack of nuts and stick to 9mm like people who want Glock 19 capacity out of a peashooter.

.380 is going up in price while 9mm is staying lower.
