Just got this Macintosh 128k with some weird mods, are these mods rare?

I just won an auction on a Macintosh 128k for a really good price, and it came with a fan hot glued into the back case, and a 512k memory expansion card. Just want to know if these are common mods to the 128k.

I added an aftermarket SCSI board to mine. Yes, it caught on fire a few years later, but that’s another story…

Bro, WE need you to tell that story(ping me in the comment of the story)

This would’ve been in the very late 80s or perhaps early 90s when I was a grad student, which meant that I stayed up all night and slept during the day, which turned out to be a good thing because my Mac which had a fan on the top of it started spewing out jet black smoke straight toward the ceiling at 2 in the morning! I grabbed it and ran into the kitchen and held it under the faucet. It was a very good thing that I was awake when it happened.

You know, Steves whole thing with hating fans was because it was too loud, and it was "too industrial". The being loud thing i get, but i guess that safety is also "too industrial". This is also why the apple III failed, because it overheated. All it would have needed would be a fan, improved apple SOS and a better backwards compatibility system with the apple II. If it had that, then it would be a smashing success in the business market.

Memory upgrade is. I struggle to see how a hot glued fan would be a common mod.

I think they were prone to overheating and jobs was animate about not having fans. Even a crap fan hot glued in did a lot.

Oh yeah it's true they overheated I just never saw one with a fin hot glued to it. I had a 128 and I just kept it in an area that was properly ventilated and it did okay
