If you were to immigrate to another place, where would you choose to go and what are the reasons behind your choice?

Title! I’m curious to know what countries/planet/places people choose!
jennyfurr7@reddit
If everything goes to plan I'll be off to Crete! Kept thinking Portugal but it's becoming too popular so Crete it is. Not sure if hubbie fancies it, or not, not bothered either way 😁😉
Any_Friendship7845@reddit
Try visiting Crete in the off season Bad weather, nothing is open and there aren't many flights to get you on and off the island. Even if you want to leave you'll only get as far as Athens so nothing direct to the UK. And the summers are insanely hot.
Zealousideal-Low3388@reddit
I’ve lived/worked in a few countries. I’m hoping to emigrate permanently by the end of the year
Uruguay or Argentina. I like the culture, lifestyle etc. And my nothing special UK savings will do very nicely to get me started
Budget_Bandicoot_411@reddit
Argentina a terrible place
Urbanyeti0@reddit
Emigrate btw
Since I only speak English there’s really only the US, Canada, New Zealand and Australia
Australias too hot and full of creatures that can kill you, the US is insane, Canada’s too close to the US and cold, so I guess that’s New Zealand
Assuming I can’t pick Republic of Ireland ofc
Competitive-Food-799@reddit
Vancouver is shockingly similar in climate to the south of England, if that helps. Buuut, it's still too close to the US. If you can figure out how to solve that one, I imagine there are about 40 million people who'd be very keen to hear the answer 😅😬
RunRevolutionary188@reddit
Sincere question. How good are the donuts?
GardenLoops@reddit
It is mindblowing to me that people still can’t brain how widespread British colonialism has been that so many countries speak English as one of their languages.
Please see the world more. Travel to Malaysia, Hong Kong, Kenya, South Africa.
RunRevolutionary188@reddit
Yes. But also money. I’m English/greek/armenian. I can attest to England’s delightful history of colonism sarcasm. We had India fight in WW2 for us bc India was still a colony. Good old Blighty
Dead__Poet__@reddit
You realise you can learn a language right??
RunRevolutionary188@reddit
English people don’t want to learn a language. Just complain about immigrants over here 😂🫣✨
Sweet_Confusion9180@reddit
Belize? South Africa? Jamaica? Hong Kong?
Many other countries speak English.
Accomplished-Salt797@reddit
Lol south Africa, sure 😭
S3rior@reddit
Not white unfortunately
Corona21@reddit
I think crime, corruption and civil liberties might rank in there too.
Middle_Conclusion810@reddit
No one wants to be white though, that’s why all your girls love the tan bed 😂
S3rior@reddit
I’m not white lol
Lost-Actuary-2395@reddit
Or Singapore, and even hongkong (but that's another topic nowadays)
RunRevolutionary188@reddit
Never considered it seriously. For all its many faults England is my home.
Upbeat-Fish-3348@reddit
If I had a decent amount of money & didn't have to work I'd probably choose somewhere like Miami or Los Angeles, from what I've seen Americans (most but not all) come across as friendly & welcoming. They also have less of a jealousy culture that we have here, in the UK if someone has a nice car, house or is opening a business most people will tend to make snide remarks and slate them wishing them the worst.
If I didn't have the money I'd probably choose Thailand instead simply because again everyone seems friendly, cheaper cost of living in some parts and lots of tropical fruit which I love to eat but hate spending ridiculous money on here in the UK.
EasilyExiledDinosaur@reddit
Where could I afford to buy a house and retire one day?
Kezmangotagoal@reddit
Brazil because the weather is awesome, the skate culture is awesome and I speak gringo Portuguese (O Brasil, por causa do seu clima e da cultura do skate!)
gregd303@reddit
Tudo bom :) I lived there years ago for 2 years, only came back because my visa expired. Great people, food, and climate
crispycat40@reddit
Prague.
I think it’s a beautiful city.
Close enough to the UK that I could travel back when needed.
Alternatively, Australia. Because it’s not close to the UK.
Commercial-Touch-516@reddit
Love Prague
RaspberryJammm@reddit
Somewhere less humid. Humidity makes my fatigue and chronic pain so much worse!
Decard_Pain@reddit
Greece, aus, NZ, Italy or Spain.
Because I like those places its about that simple.
Corona21@reddit
Switzerland, Swiss money, close enough to visit.
RhysT86@reddit
Canada, I've lived there before it's fantastic. My quality of life whilst living just outside Vancouver was incredible. I'm sure things have changed in 11 years, but it was great then.
HeadBat1863@reddit
Germany.
Beer. Sausages. And in Bavaria, some lovely walking scenery.
IndividualPotato2026@reddit
It’s a really interesting question considering that many people are also trying to migrate to UK. Like, the grass is always greener on the other side.
Locorio@reddit
England. Carp.
w-anchor-emoji@reddit
I’m good, I immigrated here already.
StAsBy52@reddit
Absolutely Spain, Ibiza if I win the lottery. Climate, pace of life, good food less money orientated than UK.
No_Technology3293@reddit
Canada and New Zealand appeal, Australia slightly less so for no real reason.
But now, realistically I’d go to Ukraine. My partner is from there and having been there once in the last year and it was an amazing place
Nice-Goose-7599@reddit
Iceland, it's cold and remote and utterly beautiful and I would love to live there.
I don't look forward to holidays much as the unusual makes me feel anxious as fuck but I was so pumped to visit Iceland and it didn't disappoint at all.
As we were driving away from Reykjavik, about 20 minutes out of town I saw this little red house at the base of a mountain and said to my girlfriend "That's where I'd like to live". I'm not sure she took it seriously but I was, it would make me so very happy.
I just can't ditch my family here so I'm shit out of luck.
Spaceship7328@reddit
If I was able to, I would emigrate to Neptune
No_Foundation_1812@reddit
Sealand, strongest nation on earth
FuzzyAromaticSand@reddit (OP)
Where is it placed?
No_Foundation_1812@reddit
It's in Europe
Prudent-Pool5474@reddit
Believe it or not, but, t's land, on sea.. I know, shocked myself
bureaucrat_chaos@reddit
Isn’t all land on sea
Prudent-Pool5474@reddit
Where's that wooosh subreddit when you need it
SeaExcitement4288@reddit
Oman, Kuwait, Bahrain, Qatar
SeaExcitement4288@reddit
Any of these really
FigTreeRest@reddit
Somewhere sunny (Australia). Or somewhere forestry (Norway, Canada). Different options, but my cup of tea!
Forsaken-Yogurt-@reddit
There's a line between sunny and constantly on fire.
If suggest Canada sits firmly one side and Aus the other of that line
Old_Introduction_395@reddit
Portugal. Lived there for 3 years. Liked the weather, the food, and the people.
Forsaken-Yogurt-@reddit
New Zealand.
It's like Scotland but.... Wonky.
Cool birds and mostly sound people.
Extension_Pickle_581@reddit
Italy. Food, football, weather, culture, scenery and the women.
kioj156@reddit
Any of the CANZUK countries, not interested in mainland Europe or the Middle East tbh.
FuzzyAromaticSand@reddit (OP)
What about Africa, east asia, South America?
apeliott@reddit
I went to Australia first then settled in Japan.
Commercial_Fig_4412@reddit
Mexico cause I like beans, Aztec/ Mayan history, and skiing
Sketcchy@reddit
Tough, I'd go somewhere with a similar climate to the UK, good coast and quality of life. So possibly Brittany, British Columbia or Norway. I've been to all three. Croatia also tempting.
rybnickifull@reddit
I lived in Croatia for a year, don't get holiday nostalgia! It's too hot to move in August unless you're by the coast, groceries are ridiculously expensive compared to salaries, and the work situation is awful everywhere but Zagreb, which is more boring than Zurich. There are also shitloads of nazis, not even neo-nazis but people who like the originals.
MrBoggles123@reddit
Depends on if I had to work or not.
If I was working then probably Canada or Australia.
If I was just going to chill then Tenerife as my folks live there.
dinkidoo7693@reddit
Cyprus or Australia. Warmer weather, both interest me for different cultural reasons.
RelationshipLife6739@reddit
Cyprus or Crete for my half greek half Cypriot partner. She’d prefer to live in the uk though for the cold weather and I prefer there for the warm weather. The grass is always greener…
Organic-Ad6439@reddit
I’d prefer to not immigrate but if you’re forcing me then I painfully select France.
Dawningrider@reddit
Iceland, or another scandi country.
GeggingIn@reddit
Probably Canada.
Free healthcare, beautiful, know people there and can visit America relatively easily without living there.
NationalOption5600@reddit
Canada. Great healthcare, diverse culture, stable lifestyle and welcoming immigration policies.
ExplanationPutrid205@reddit
Canada! I see alot of Canadians at work such lovely people. Country is absolutely beautiful too. Apparently it can be quite expensive though.
WhatYouLeaveBehind@reddit
Australia or Canada.
Common language. Nice people. Beer.
