Feel free to include reality/documentary and dramas!
I personally love Forensics: The Real CSI and 24 Hours in Police Custody.

The bill
bakedNdelicious@reddit
I miss The Bill. It was filmed in my area so wasn’t unusual for there to be scenes being shot in my local high street. I drive past the industrial estate the old police station used to be on and I still describe it as Sun Hill 🤣
richdrich@reddit
It was an amazing effort to produce (usually) a self-contained story in a 20 minute episode.
Also, shot out of sequence with scenes in the same location all done together and planned/edited using custom scheduling software, apparently.

Tosh!

As a kid I really liked Rockliffe’s Babies.
Everyone else must have thought it was shit though - only lasted one series!
gregd303@reddit
Ha I was going to write this for the obscurity. I enjoyed it at the time..I was probably about thirteen?! I liked the theme tune too
gregd303@reddit
Wah..i was right. In '87 I was thirteen. Just Googled and Ian Hogg (Rockcliffe) is still going, age 88
nelbertred@reddit
The Sweeney. The Professionals
gregd303@reddit
Both solid theme tunes too

I loved Heartbeat. And I'm not a pensioner, it's just relaxing TV.
Broadchurch was great but didn't run for long.

The bill back in the day was great, even as kid. Nostalgia. June, Regularly, Tony, DC Beech, Polly, Dave. I'm sure theres loads I've forgotten to mention!

Life on Mars
AromaticVacation3077@reddit
I've never been into police shows, but for some reason I absolutely loved Scott And Bailey. Underrated show IMHO.

Hot Fuzz
It's a nice little documentary on the policing of a quiet rural village.

Those kind of documentaries are for the greater good

Life On Mars Ashes To Ashes The Thin Blue Line

Both you mentioned are the best imo. All UK police docs are good. I wont day which ep or even what series for obvious reasons but my father is a detective in Serious Crime (rapes, murders etc.) And has been on one of the docs

Operation Good Guys.

A toss up between Vera and Luther for the top spot.
Buddy-Matt@reddit
Vera is excellent.
I particularly like the way she talks to the killer once she's fingered it out.
"Aye, pet, you then hit him in the skull with that there hammer"
It's just so casual. Like she's outing them for nicking a tin of beans from the shop, and not going on a 3 body murder spree.
yolo_snail@reddit
My favourite drinking game is taking a shot every time she shouts "Kenny!". You're smashed by the first break!
MrPhyshe@reddit
Dixon of Dock Green.
The Detectives.
Llwynog93@reddit
Fat Sweaty Coppers
Cool_Doubt2152@reddit
Line of Duty, Luther, and more recently enjoyed Dept Q on Netflix
pouchey2@reddit
I guess not entirely police shows but Life on Mars and Ashes to Ashes for fictional stuff.
thefirstmatt@reddit
Life on mars technically
DCIGrannyGrumps@reddit
Just rewatched it all including Ashes to Ashes this last week. For me, it's one of the best ever series made even if Ashes to Ashes s1 was a bit weak
External_Humor_6566@reddit
Crash forensics thing, I forget it's name but sure it was on channel 5, it was very good and showed all the accident investigation stuff
chemo92@reddit

For the time they were made, they were really good and David Jason played the part perfectly.
Fred_Derf_Jnr@reddit
Juliet Bravo was great at the time.
The Jetty was an interesting mini-series that could produce a follow on.
