Pistol Thoughts

In the market for a pistol for my son. He is moving off and has several shotguns/rifles but not a pistol of his own.
Any thoughts on what I should get him. He could probably use both a 9mm for safety and .22 for plinking. I am only going to get him one tho as a gift, and trying to keep it under the $500 range.
Any suggestions to what I should do?

CZ P10C. It feels way better than a Glock, shoots better, and with just a trigger shoe upgrade, has a way better trigger (I'd recommend mcarbo).
You can but a ported P10C for $469 on dahlonega armory

I’ll say something like a police trade in beretta 92 should be under $500

You'll probably get a different answer from every comment lol, but that's okay because part of the fun of firearms is the variety.
If it were me, I'd get him an RXM. Simple, reliable, comfortable, tons of aftermarket support (Glock Gen 3 compatible), lots of customization options (grip sizes and colors, optics, rail accessories, etc.) and can be found around $350-400.

The Tisas PX-9 has all of the toys, is excellent quality and is under your budget. Walther PDP like trigger, RMR optic ready, fully configurable grip like an HK, and a great comp.

Glock 19 (9mm) and Taurus TX22 (22LR) are generally the go-to choices for this situation. There are lots of other options for both (especially if interested in arguably unnecessary features, aesthetics, status-signaling, etc.), but those two are generally considered the best balance of cost, quality, simplicity, reliability, etc.

Glock 44 is essentially the 19 as a 22.
OP: you cannot go wrong getting him a G19. Often available as LEO surplus below your price point and use the savings to buy mags. He can get himself a G44 to plink with.
Any of the Ruger MK generations or Browning buckmark are excellent 22 pistols, easily found used in your price range if the goal is a dedicated 22.

G19/Sig 365 or similar would be a good carry option. Taurus TX22 or Ruger Mk IV for plinking

Get him a basic striker fired one he can carry. Something like a shield X is around your price point while still being high quality, I’d also go with 9mm over .22 if you’re only getting him one
