Oh man. The roads are about to get even more dangerous

We’ve all seen what U Haul renters can do with an E series or an F650, now we’re giving them 29 foot Peterbilts? What could possibly go wrong here 😂
its_my_third_dayhere@reddit
Think of all the money the city can save on tree trimming in residential neighborhoods!
KatieTSO@reddit
Buses are the solution. Source: I'm a bus driver and every street we drive on has conspicuously bus-shaped cutouts on every single tree.
Powered_by_JetA@reddit
A similar phenomenon occurs with the trees near my local rail line.
KatieTSO@reddit
Makes sense. Big steel box tends to win against new growth on trees.
Colonel_Phox@reddit
When I was very new to truck driving (like maybe 4 months in) I had a battle with a tree in Pennsylvania.... The tree won... Big ass tear in the side of my trailer.
Beekatiebee@reddit
Truck shaped trees are the truck route signs we have at home
theboywthagreenscarf@reddit
26’ Penske fits more anyways. Fuck u haul gas guzzling shit
Zestyspy@reddit
...And there's going to be an auto transport on the hitch ball, too.
bentstrider83@reddit
Everyone who has to take every single thing with them on a move. Meanwhile in the actual relocation subs, moving day is usually dump trip. If it can't fit into a pickup bed over 1-2 trips, it's getting jettisoned.
PrivatePilot9@reddit
Does your home have wheels too? Or do you just furnish with Walmart furniture?
Some of us don’t have cheap shit that costs a lot to actually replace at point B.
bentstrider83@reddit
Seeing as how one has to relocate often to keep up with better work opportunities in this, or any field, it's better to stay light as possible. I too thought I wanted all those typical furnishings. But after spending over a decade in the same place, I'm stressing over how much junk I've accumulated.
I'm just turning over a new leaf when I finally move and don't want to be a hoarder. It's also just myself and my cat. No kids or woman in my life. Apart from a gun and bicycle collection, I'm quite sure a simple futon/hideabed and milk crates for desks/tables will work.
I just have lower expectations for personal dwelling. A tool shed with plumbing on an acre in Nowhere KS is ideal for me. I grew up in a SoCal tract home and have no desire for that in my older life.
Aromatic-Scratch3481@reddit
Yo big single axle trucks, when theyre heavy, have the worst breaking distance of anything I've ever driven. Even when theyre light the brakes get hot FAST.
PrivatePilot9@reddit
Good thing the people driving them will be properly educated on how to descend grades then.
Oh, wait….
jabber1990@reddit
i'm not worried about that, I'm more worried about how many customers are going to put gasoline or DEF in the fuel tank?
zzooooomm@reddit
I’ll bet they spec the trucks with gasoline engines.
Kodiak01@reddit
Paccar was slated to get the first of the new 6.7L gas engines from Cummins. These might be some of them.
Beekatiebee@reddit
I had no idea that was a thing, I wonder what it sounds like. A massive straight 6 gasser with Jakes is wild work.
Wonder if we’ll see a return to gasser class 8’s lmao
PrivatePilot9@reddit
Actual real jake, or exhaust/muffler brake? Very different things.
Randomreddituser1o1@reddit
Thomas School Buses is using the Jake brakes on the engine
https://www.cummins.com/en-na/engines/products/b67-octane?hl=en-US
Jacktheforkie@reddit
You can get HGVs with petrol engines ?
Sterling_____Archer@reddit
Unfortunately, yes.
zzooooomm@reddit
Yes, in America we are equal opportunity fossil fuel burners
Jacktheforkie@reddit
Interesting
04limited@reddit
I believe uhaul phased out their diesel fleet around 07-08. Likely to avoid emissions system related breakdowns. They sold off alot of their 7.3 Fords around that time as they were getting older and transitioned over to a gas fleet
Randomreddituser1o1@reddit
The Problem is if you can't tell the difference between gasoline and Diesel you shouldn't be allowed to drive
Fellthefox@reddit
Former uhaul regional manager. The amount of people that put in diesel... Holy hell
04limited@reddit
Uhaul fleet is big enough they’ll probably build gasser trucks just for them
RevolvingCheeta@reddit
A Peterbilt with a gas engine, I’ll be damn!
jabber1990@reddit
God Damn...there is so much in that sentence I don't like
BouncingSphinx@reddit
Gas in the diesel tank is exactly why U-Haul stopped getting diesels many years ago. Some of their bigger trucks used to have diesel engines.
BigWhiteDog@reddit
Yep. When I worked for them back in the late 80s or so the "JH" model 24' was diesel and that caused a bunch of problems.
BleachIF@reddit
Seen a few of these in Socal already and had to do a double take when i saw it was a pete
Snatchbuckler@reddit
Let me introduce you to enterprise box trucks
Jacktheforkie@reddit
Don’t you guys need a license for that? Here in the uk car licenses cover up to 3.5t though many have up to 7.5t, 7.5t requires C1, you can’t get a test in C1 though as C is the same test in a slightly bigger vehicle, usually a 12t which is not that much bigger, C allows for driving anything up to 36t rigid body, then there’s C&E which is truck and trailer, up to 44t, if you get C&E you can drive any HGV, there’s also D categories which are for passenger vehicles like buses and coaches
truckinfarmer379@reddit (OP)
No. The license system here is a joke. Class C lets you drive any single or combination vehicle up to 26k pounds. There needs to be more restrictions on what can and can’t be driven on a C class because there’s too many under qualified operators driving these larger trucks that are a hazard to themselves and the road
Jacktheforkie@reddit
Wow, so you can pass your test in a little 1 ton car and immediately go hop in a commercial truck and legally drive it?
truckinfarmer379@reddit (OP)
To an extent. The GVW of power unit (and trailer if you choose) can’t be over 26k and I believe it still can’t have air brakes. That’s how a lot of these hotshot trucks do it with no CDL.
Jacktheforkie@reddit
I see, still 13 tons which is a small lorry here, even the cybertruck would be in need of C1
mrsclausemenopause@reddit
And after a weekend course on a 125cc Grom in a parking lot theres nothing stopping a 16 year old from riding a 1000cc race bike
SubarcticFarmer@reddit
They are the same size as the F650s and Internationals that came before them.
cpttiger@reddit
The 650s had a 26ft box. Is the cab shorter on the petes or what am I missing
SubarcticFarmer@reddit
You're right, I thought OP was posting about overall length, I didn't realize uhaul decided to get a larger box.
NostradamusJones@reddit
I mean, they're not that much bigger. They've always had access to pretty sizeable trucks.
WubbaWubbaBoingBoing@reddit
y'all never drove back in the 70's and 80's with them big uhauls that went up hill doing 3MPH lmao.
Nearby-Border-5899@reddit
They might be peterbilts but they arent CMVs
Melodic_Mongoose_817@reddit
Fun fact. Worked for U-Haul in early 2000s, still had some of those ol 26 ft diesel internationals. We would drop the airbags and pop the clutch in 1st and truck would pop a wheelie dragging rear bumper on ground!
Upnorth4@reddit
I had to reverse park some box trucks for my old job. I would park those while driving 20mph in reverse
tasselledwobbegong1@reddit
I’m more worried about grandpa driving the motorhome with the poodle dog on the dash while grandma is telling him where to go.
MantisShrimpUpTop@reddit
Thank you for pointing out the silver lining of higher fuel prices. I’m seeing way fewer RV’s out here this year.
december151791@reddit
Holy fuck you're right. Thank you Israel!
MantisShrimpUpTop@reddit
Just went down i65 IN, smooth traffic and no RV’s.
I mean, I have CTE now but other that, smooth.
Edit: LOTS of stuff in the road though. Tarps, tires, etc. Sheesh.
AbrahamL26@reddit
Luckily and sadly there won't be as much due to increased fuel pricing.
EmotionalBar2533@reddit
I can drive my tri drive vac truck around town better than those 4 wheeler goofs can drive a smart car... it's fucking sad.
Randomfactoid42@reddit
You can probably park better than them too. Once I saw somebody parked a Mini diagonally in the space. That took some skills to screw up that badly.
Lone_Wanderer2076@reddit
A tow trucks best friend
RevolvingCheeta@reddit
100% some shade tree “arborist” or junk removal guy is gonna destroy everything on those.
Cardinal_350@reddit
I used to deliver to a restaurant next to a U haul place. They quit putting the overhangs back on the building because it would take a week before someone would come through with a Uhaul and fuck the roof and overhang back up again
Important_Cucumber@reddit
I rented one of the International Penskes. Either something was wrong with it or it was scary underpowered. Foot to the floor hitting the end of the onramp at like 35mph with a light load.
OhSighRiss@reddit
Will be interesting to see if they can stay between the lines in one of those
Dry_Source666@reddit
Can't wait to say "You can't park there..."
usec47@reddit
More ways to destroy
BigWhiteDog@reddit
Not that much different from the gutless 24" IH they've been offering for over 40 years.
Ohiolongboard@reddit
Yeah but that’s only 2ft, this thing will be 29 feet!
