It was discovered fairly recently that humpback whales actually have poorer eyesight than they originally were thought to have, and of course like other baleen whales, humpbacks also do not have echolocation abilities. This finding may at least partially explain the incidents where humpbacks have landed on or collided with boats and swimmers, likely for the most part by accident.
