Upgrade PC or buy PS5

Hey everyone! I’ve had my current pc for a bit now (built it in 2020 i think) and am looking to upgrade it as some games are just not looking as great as I’d like them to and the new games coming out like the new Lego Batman game my pc doesn’t have good enough specs to play. I’m just wondering if I should upgrade my current setup and if it’ll be worth it and I can get more good years out of it or just buy a ps5. I’d really appreciate any input!
Here’s my current setup:
CPU: Ryzen 5 3600
Motherboard: Gigabyte A520M S2H
SSD: Teamgroup MP33 1TB
Power Supply: Alecia prestige 600w
Case: DIYPC ARGB-Q01-BK CASE
GPU: Radeon sapphire pulse RX5700 XT
RAM: 2x8gb 3600mhz

Definitely PC. The PS5, regardless of what the console-worshippers will say, is really not as great value as a PC is, because there is no upgrade-ability. Your PC, on the other hand, is ripe for a juicy upgrade. I’d say look for a Ryzen 5 5600 and maybe a used 6700XT, if you look enough that could certainly end up being around the cost of a PS5 disk or slim. Then, save up for a bit more, and start looking for a used 32gb ddr4 kit FROM A VERIFIED AND TRUSTWORTHY SELLER. Gonna be way better than a PS5, and if you upgrade your mobo, you could get an even better CPU & GPU later. You still have lots of upgrade-ability room here!

Also, a LEGO game not playable on a 5700XT seems crazy. I’d bet that once it drops, you’ll see you can play it fine. Maybe won’t look the best, as you mentioned, but it’ll play fine

Yes I'm playing it now. He will be absolutely fine.
The specs the developers reported at first were so ridiculously overshot that it's actually funny.
I currently meet the recommended spec in GPU, and go quite a bit under the CPU recommended for "1440p medium, upscaling and frame gen, 60fps". I'm actually getting 75-120fps with zero frame gen.

I kinda figured. I have played so many LEGO games and it would be ridiculous for the new Batman one to require more than OP’s current specs lol
Necessary_Refuse_962@reddit
Yeah I suppose what they listed is a super, super conservative estimate.
I'm technically below recommended and if we're assuming frame gen doubles the frame rate, I'm overshooting their stated performance by 2-3x, on a windows version they don't even support.

What answer do you think you will get on /r/buildapc?
Noob_MTB@reddit
You’d be surprised how many PS5 stans are on here. I think they patrol enemy territory to look for possible converts

I'm currently playing Lego Batman.
Looking at your specs, I promise you you're absolutely going to be fine. The specs the developers listed are ridiculously overshot, to a genuinely stupid extent.
I'm on a Ryzen 5 5600X, 32GB RAM, RTX 4060. I'm getting 75-120 FPS on medium, 1440p, DLSS balanced with no frame gen.
With what you have, you could absolutely shoot for 1080p, 60fps on low-medium, probably with very minimal upscaling.

My GPU alone cost twice as much as my PS5 pro and I think my PC and Pro both look really good on my oled monitor. How much do you wanna spend and how much time do you wanna invest are the real questions. Is my PS5 pro better than my PC hell no not even close but it looks great and preforms well for the price I paid. Do I think my PS5 pro was worth what I paid for it hell yeah. Which I only paid $700 I believe for my pro at the beginning of last year + another $79 for a disc drive and I know its more now but I also paid $200 for 64gb of gskill ddr5 last year which is now over $600 last time I checked and I bought two 2tb ssd's one was a pcie gen5 and the other was a 4.0 both of those have doubled in price. Sooo how much do you wanna spend and do you want the best?

PS5 is such a poor value proposition, even if you were starting with nothing.
But your build is also very upgradeable. Depending your budget and what you want, I see several different upgrade routes

I mean, for $500 the ps5 was very worth, but $650? Eh
reckless150681@reddit
Don't forget other unavoidable costs.
Base PS Plus membership has been $10/mo since the launch of PS5 in November 2020. That's 65 months * $10 = at least $650 tacked on to a $500 console.
Playstation is serviced by ONLY a first-party (read: monopolized) digital marketplace. That means they control the pricing, and that means that you'll very rarely see sales that are as deep as PC counterparts. So depending on what type of gamer you are and what your purchasing habits are, you could see another several hundred bucks vanish simply because you were more attracted to the lower initial cost of consoles

I have a pc and a ps5 and i just never pay ps plus cause i dont play online, so i dont care about ps plus
The last isn't true at all. Almost all of the games on sales are the same price as steam, i can confirm since i have the two, during the ps3 era it was more expensive, but nowadays it isn't true
And they have sales ALL the time, this month alone there was 2

So if you were talking ps5 I will anticipate a budget around $500-$600ish. Id upgrade 3 things CPU, RAM, GPU.
CPU - newest you can go would be the 5000 series without having to change the mobo. Would go either 5700/5800 or the x3d variant but would be alot more expensive and harder to find.
RAM - hope fully your mobile has 4 RAM slot. Find another 8x2 kit is fairly cheap. Having to switch out to a 16x2 is more expensive.
GPU - amd would be the most cost efficient. Could look at a 6800xt or a 7700xt. If had to go nvidia maybe a 3060ti or 3070ti and they are fairly cheap used but they only have 8gb VRAM. And games now are starting to use more (thats why they are cheaper on the used market).
Any combination would be a noticeable different. And suggestions are based off of used market prices.

Do you play at 1080p or 4k? I’d stick with your pc if you play at 1080p and look to upgrade your processor to a used 5600/5700x/5800 for a good deal. But either way, wait for the Batman game to release and look at some reviews. I’d bet it runs decently on your system when all is said and done.
