Bump-stocks are officially back on the menu : ATF finally removes bump-stocks from the definition of "machine gun"

Don't get a bump-stock. There are better options out there for lighting your ammo money on fire.
Final Rule (/still not a law!):
https://www.federalregister.gov/documents/2026/05/06/2026-08926/revising-machine-gun-definition-in-response-to-supreme-court-decision
perturbed_rutabaga@reddit
sure until they arbitrarily change their minds like they do every time presidential administration changes
RailLife365@reddit
How about we just abolish the ATF? Then we'd have something to celebrate. Until then, why are we applauding the human rights violators?
NotThatEasily@reddit
The ATF serves an important function and should not be abolished. They should be reigned in as to stop these whiplash producing rulings that can create felons overnight.
RailLife365@reddit
What function does it serve which complies with the restrictions set upon the government via the Bill of Rights within the US Constitution?
umbrellassembly@reddit (OP)
It's okay to celebrate small battles along the way to winning the war.
RailLife365@reddit
Did you say "along the way to winning the big igloo"? 😉 Sounds good to me! Lol
thegame2386@reddit
Anything they cant have their inept grubby hands on is a win IMO. But FRTs have outstripped bump stock tech since this whole thing became an issue. At least thats what i see.
corporalgrif@reddit
I love how now that FRT's are easily available people have realized just how shitty and impractical bump stocks were
Puzzled_Arm_3156@reddit
I personally never wanted one, but I didn't want them illegal either. FRTs are definately better.
SgtToadette@reddit
Bumpstocks walked so we could run. I respect the hell out of them, even if silly by today's standards.
cvltrilex@reddit
Certainly silly, but respectable in that regard.
gunplumber700@reddit
So many people are missing that point.
sirbassist83@reddit
what does it say about me that i thought they were shitty and impractical from the very beginning?
NaziHuntingInc@reddit
It means you have a room temperature IQ, which basically makes you a genius
corporalgrif@reddit
you have a brain
Tohrchur@reddit
everyone already knew they were shitty and stupid, but it was the only option available and was clearly just for shits and giggles shooting into a pile of trash
TheDuderino357@reddit
I think you guys are missing the point. Sure you like FRTs better but the fact that we are getting unconstitutional rules reversed is a win. If they can do it to bump stock they will do it for you FRTs.
Brian-88@reddit
But it's not everything I want immediately!
Puzzled_Arm_3156@reddit
Unfortunately and fortunately the government doesn't work that fast.
manyeggplants@reddit
And it only took ten years and for it to be obsolete!
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
This rule was reversed by SCOTUS years ago. The ATF is just finally updating their books.
GildSkiss@reddit
Wow just in time for them to have been completely obsolete for years already!
Eagle_1776@reddit
"see, we're giving you some crumbs"
GildSkiss@reddit
Midterms coming up, time for Republicans to pretend they care about gun rights again and do the bare minimum.
ours@reddit
I wonder who forbade bump-stocks in the first place 🤔.
Puzzled_Arm_3156@reddit
I believe the same guy that ordered a 2A branch to the DOJ to do away with all the BULLSHIT rules the ATF made up over the last 200 years that were all illegal according to the constitution what a great job!
Puzzled_Arm_3156@reddit
And time for dems to show they don't care about the constitution!
TubeSockLover87@reddit
Just as a counterpoint, bump stocks need no tweaking to run.
Im not arguning SS's are superior but for a cookout build you can smack together the night before said cookout....
panxerox@reddit
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KKP_vZjhMHQ my bumper made out of garbage
ghablio@reddit
Not completely true, a bump stock requires recoil.
If your trigger travel is long enough and recoil light enough you'll have a very hard time with one.
I've had ARs I could bump fire from the shoulder with ease without a bump stock, and others that I couldn't even with the bump stock
It can be far easier to troubleshoot why a bump stock is or isn't working though, thats for sure
umbrellassembly@reddit (OP)
That's a good point.
🤔
Interesting_Extent19@reddit
Holy crapola we are so back.
glockguy34@reddit
Lol the guy working the counter at a gun shop asked me the other day if I had one or wanted one. I was like bro fuck a bump stock when there are FRTs and super safeties
jd-scott@reddit
Good. They're terrible but if you want one you should be able to have one
truckensafely@reddit
I bought one when they first hit the market & haven’t taken it out of the plastic wrapper yet, I think it’s maybe more than 15 years old & it’s been sitting in my safe since I bought it. Can I use it now?
umbrellassembly@reddit (OP)
Yes.
What you should do is build out a cheap lower with it so you can try out whatever uppers you have that'll work with the buffer you're using.
HistoricalFan4930@reddit
Meh. I want real machine guns
anon2u@reddit
Typical pattern - the government clearly violates the law via regulations and it takes nearly a decade and $10s of millions to get it back to status quo.
umbrellassembly@reddit (OP)
I remember, way back in 2013, gun guys in Colorado were saying "don't worry y'all, it'll get struck down in court."
13 years later, Colorado's magazine capacity ban remains in place. 🤷🏻♂️
luigi517@reddit
Always happy to see a gun law go away, I still assume anyone who buys a bump stock is either a teenager with daddy's credit card, an idiot or both.
RailLife365@reddit
It wasn't a law, as far as I know. The law says: "A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed."
umbrellassembly@reddit (OP)
Don't ever forget the category of : "I just want to stick it to the ATF"
opkraut@reddit
Amazing how so many people kept using bump stocks being banned as a reason to bitch and moan about bans but now that they're being unbanned it's nothing but people shitting on bump stocks and saying this is a waste of time.
I get that asking for consistency from reddit is pointless, but could some of y'all lighten up a bit? This is a good thing, the government is actually getting rid of a ban on something for once and even if bump stocks are relatively useless toys it's the principle that matters here.
RailLife365@reddit
How about we just abolish the unconstitutional alphabet agency? 🤷 That'd be a good thing.
BeenisHat@reddit
Exactly. So what if a bump stock is impractical and clunky? I took up dip pen calligraphy as a hobby and it's 100% obsolete. If you bought one and you have the budget to feed it, what's the big deal? Let people enjoy their toys. It's a step in the right direction and IMHO FRTs are not safe from future attacks and are on shaky legal ground at the moment. Democrats will eventually win back the government and things could change quickly.
umbrellassembly@reddit (OP)
Time and Technology...
It took 8 years and other things came along, making them obsolete.
What the ATF should learn from this is if you cut of the bump-stock head, many other FRT heads will appear and so on and so forth.
Aside from that, if you see someone with a bump-stock in the wild, know that they are at least slightly based because they likely didn't buy it recently.
Cliffinati@reddit
Bump stocks were deemed not machine guns by the courts a couple years ago
umbrellassembly@reddit (OP)
This is part of the process where they tell their agents to officially stop pursuing all cases related to bump stocks and close everything out.
CiD7707@reddit
Bumpstocks, FRTs, and Super Safeties are the gun equivalent of Sovereign citizen arguments.
Cliffinati@reddit
Incorrect. Sovereign Citizenship is claiming somehow laws don't apply to you just because.
Bump stocks, FRTs and Super Safeties are not machine guns nor a component that makes semi automatics fully automatic. They just make semiautomatics cycle faster.
If they actually made guns fully automatic then they would have been banned.
And since you brought up sovereign citizens and guns. The idea that ANY gun control is constitutional is a sovereign citizen level legal argument as the second amendment states. "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."
shit_poster9000@reddit
Anything to chip away at the legitimacy of the NFA
wlogan0402@reddit
Don't care. Unless someone makes a bump stock for a Beretta a300
Jakl15@reddit
Oh good, just in time for me to not be able to afford gas to drive to the range, much less the ammo to feed a bump stock rifle.
itsvalleyforge@reddit
Now what will LGO point to when they say Trump is anti-gun? (while ignoring anti-gun democrat laws being passed)
Animal907@reddit
They were stupid then and they're stupid now. I'm still waiting for a super safety that switches normal.
Own-Particular6321@reddit
That exists.
CWM_99@reddit
Who makes a burst variant? I have no desire to use three round burst in any capacity, and don’t actually know anybody who does. That feels like a gap in the market that doesn’t need to be filled lol
Quw10@reddit
Idk I think it'd be pretty tits in an MP5 or my AR9 or just about any pistol caliber carbine or SBR, both my 5.56 rifles are controllable enough I wouldn't bother with the CARL unless I was doing a clone or meme build.
CWM_99@reddit
Having shot three round burst on old m4s, I’m just not sold. I’d rather just have full auto or a regular FRT and do controlled bursts on my own. Never tried it on any sub guns though, so maybe that would be cooler
Own-Particular6321@reddit
Stuff and Things. It's called the CARL
cheesecake-gnome@reddit
BeenisHat@reddit
My dog has level 4 plates
hitemlow@reddit
You could get the Arizona Regulator 3-position model.
Bonus is the guy will take cash through the mail and sends your order form + envelope back as packing material. You can even include your own prepaid shipping label to save a few bucks off your order. So even if the ATF raids them later, there's no easy paper trail to hand over like Rare Breed did.
Extra_Drop_6081@reddit
the arc fire and atrius have been out for like a year
BoxofCurveballs@reddit
Atrius has theirs that works pretty good
juggarjew@reddit
The rare breed 3 pos FRT for the MP5 is pretty insane and works just like a select fire gun. As much hate as they get, the product is very solid. All "controversies" aside, its the best 3 pos FRT ive ever used.
Own-Particular6321@reddit
Fuck Rare Greed.
ButtstufferMan@reddit
You purchasing from them is actively FUCKING us please dont gove them any more money.
AlphaTangoFoxtrt@reddit
They've been back on the menu since SCOTUS said "Those don't aren't machine guns."
This isn't some new pro-2A change, this is the ATF (finally) complying with the SCOTUS ruling.
arethius@reddit
Now tell Florida
xfyre101@reddit
the fact that i cant put an FRT in my charger is infuriating xD
fuppedduck2@reddit
Magically thousands of bump stock rematerialize lol
jacks_lung@reddit
So Mandalay Bay was all for nothing?
what-name-is-it@reddit
This is probably ramping up for Mandalay Bay 2: FRT Boogaloo.
TyburnCross@reddit
(Always has been meme)
umbrellassembly@reddit (OP)
Not exactly. There were other things going on that got accomplished and thoroughly buried.
zeromutt@reddit
Does this do anything about states calling bump stocks machine guns anyway? If it does then theres hopium for frts too
caterham09@reddit
FRT's are significantly better, but I suspect those are going to be firmly in the sights of gun control advocates soon tbh. They are getting too prevalent. The second a shooting happens with one they are going to be public enemy number 1.
Batttler@reddit
prevalent sounds like in common use
Ikora_Rey_Gun@reddit
Place your bets: will this thread be chock full of the usual shill-spects saying "yah but bump stocks suck" or will they be suspiciously absent?
Any-Can-6776@reddit
Frts are better
Worth_Aerie_8849@reddit
What a waste of time. Nobody ever wanted them anyhow.
