I propose we completely exile Kansas and turn it into a DMZ. Surrounding states can hire private militaries to contest their claim on the land, and after 10 years, the winner gets granted the former states land.
We then rinse and repeat for all 49 remaining states until one mega state remains. Then we annex Canada.

Move the southern border till it touches Texas and give Oklahoma the Texas panhandle.
Nobody will object to fewer Texans or need to explain panhandles to their kids on a road trip again.

Because it is contained by Canada. Should Canada ever become a state or run out of maple syrup, containment will fail and all shall be consumed to become one with Alaska.
