I built Waypoint: an app that drops a pin and shows you an arrow back to it. No subscriptions. No accounts. No ads. No trackers. Fully offline. All data stays on your device.

I built this because I don't like hunting for my car in giant parking lots. I didn't like the existing apps - I just wanted a simple arrow pointing at the thing I marked. So I built Waypoint.
What it's good for
- Marking your campsite so you can wander and get back after dark
- Bushwhacking off a trail - drop a pin at the trailhead and explore without worrying about the way back
- Saving a fishing or hunting spot to come back to
- Finding your car at festivals, trailheads, beaches, stadiums, big parking lots
- Marking where you stashed a kayak, cooler, or gear
- Marking a bunch of locations of interest before heading out on a trip. Always know the direction to go

Something like this on my Garmin watch would be pretty sweet I'll have to see if there's something similar

iOS version ?

The iOS version is done and I'm working through the process of getting it released on the app store. Hopefully it'll be available in the next few weeks.

Definitely going to comment here to keep track for when this drops.

Cool. I have a suggestion (if you didn't already do this or think of it): Add a slider with update frequency, add a "dim" mode that only shows the arrow and half dims the screen, make it do it doesn't update in the background constantly, and pursuer other ideas to preserve battery life, so you can milk as much time out of it when your battery is really low and you're lost.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'm always looking for ways to optimize for power consumption and give users more ways to take control over the app.
Currently in Settings > Power Mode there are two options: Normal, and Power Saver. Power Saver pulses GPS at half frequency.
"Dim" mode is a good idea. I will look into this.

Following for iOS update. I would use this for sure.

Following for IOS. Sounds neat!
vaporintrusion@reddit
Oh man, this sounds useful. You can mark more than one pin at a time?
I don’t have an android so I won’t be able to download but still sounds cool

The free tier lets you mark 3 spots and the paid tier is unlimited.
iOS version is coming soon. Hopefully it'll be available in the next few weeks.
GoPadge@reddit
On the free tier is that 3 spots, or 3 active spots?
AFIRENSIDE@reddit (OP)
3 locations total.

Thanks for clarifying!

Just installed it - great idea and at first glance the implementation looks great. Love the haptic feedback every time you deviate +/- 30 degrees.
I have a relative who is involved with Search and Rescue; I haven't dug around your app to see what you have implemented, but if it was not a big overhead to implement a "share my waypoint with someone else", that could be a very useful feature - not just for SaR, but also to be able to tell your friends where to meet-up:
"Just open the app and follow my Waypoint arrow!"
Again - apologies if you've already done this.

Thanks for the feedback!
If you long press on a saved location it brings up a sheet with a few helpful tools:
- Open in Maps: Opens Google Maps with a marker on that location
- Copy coordinates: copies the GPS coordinates to the clipboard
- Share: Opens the OS share sheet with text like:
Location Name
https://maps.google.com/?q=
Great for sending to someone in Google Messages, an email, or pasting somewhere else.

Gotcha - I'll be sure to try those out.
Thanks again for making this app!

I'm constantly out in the back woods working, I'll try it out and leave you some feedback, if it does what you state you could very easily end up helping a lot of people, good on you!

Thanks, would love to know your experience after you try it out.

Thank you, I've been after this exact thing!

Just downloaded and installed. I'll let you know once I get the opportunity to try it out.
