Do you prepare syrup (we call it pine honey) out of spring pine tips and pinecones in your country? This is the best topping for french toast and mekitsi (fried dough) :)

Yes, but we use it as a remedy for cough and flu.
North-Library4037@reddit (OP)
Really and never as a topping on food?
ZinbaluPrime@reddit
Yes, we use other honey types as topping, but the pine one sits in the cabinet for when we were sick.
Aggressive-Prize-522@reddit
How is it made?
North-Library4037@reddit (OP)
Simply put you boil the buds and the pinecones with sugar and some lemon. If you're interested in the details look here we've shared recipes with or without sugar.
Aggressive-Prize-522@reddit
Thank you! Sounds really interesting 😀
Substratas@reddit
We don’t have such a thing. How does it taste like?
North-Library4037@reddit (OP)
In Sweden you mean? It's similar to maple syrup I think but pine syrup isn't naturally sweet as maple syrup is so there's sugar added.
wifesboobs42@reddit
My mom used to.

I've never heard about this, kinda want to try it now.

I do not know, but elderflower syrup/juice is very popular in Serbia.
North-Library4037@reddit (OP)
Pine honey isn't a drink but thick syrup similar to the maple syrup.
GrgaPrticRomanul@reddit
I'm usually buying it from your Kaufland. But if you have a recipe, I'm all ears. How much pine sprouts, how much sugar, water, and how long to boil it? Or is it different?
North-Library4037@reddit (OP)
Here is a simple recipe but it contains a lot sugar so you might want to reduce it.
Here another user shared recipe with no sugar but honey instead.
equili92@reddit
Nisi čuo za borov med?
Fred_Neecheh@reddit
Ja nisam
Alarming-Inspector-6@reddit
NightZT@reddit
Here as well, planning to collect blossoms the next weeks to make some syrup. I especially like it mixed with ice cold sparkling water and white wine in the summer
Cudomudoviste@reddit
My beekeeper friend gets mad when someone calls this , or Dandi line sirup. a honey.
It is not. It is not inverted natural saharose with bee enzymes, does not have pollen and all the other anti bacterial and even one antiviral bee products that they add in it. It is their way of preserving it and their hive . All of that makes honey what it is . Not just food, it is natural medicine.
This is unhealthy Shuger sirup and ..... i have no intention to insult but to shock in positive way........ this is food for idiots. Real hony is real. This is not.
North-Library4037@reddit (OP)
Jeez, we know it's not honey...but we'll not stop calling it that way as this has been the name for a very long time. Also, you can prepare it less sugar or no sugar but other sweetener. No one is forcing you to eat it so calm down!
Cudomudoviste@reddit
As i said, i wanted to shock in positive way.
And it is not honey. It is seriously unhealthy.
North-Library4037@reddit (OP)
There's no positive shock here...What's that obsession with the honey thing did you not read what I wrote above?
Cudomudoviste@reddit
You keep not understanding.
THIS syrup is NOT good for consumption. You need massive amounts of Shugar to prepare it. I know this from a beekeeper friend who explained to me few years ago that this actually is big problem because on selling stands people sell it as honey even to people who buy honey BECOUSE THEY HAVE HELTH PROBLEMS.
So what you call nice addition to pancakes, local market vendors sell as pine honey .
There is NO PROPOLIS OR POLEN in this product. Just raw white Shugar that will harm you. And if your health is compromised . harm you very much.
Honey is naturaly inverted shugar, with natural enzymes with polen and Propolis dissolved in it. And it is natural antibiotic and propolis even the only natural antiviral remedy.
So we are calling a poison with the name of cure.
Insane. really insane.
North-Library4037@reddit (OP)
No, you don't understand:
1st - That's happening in Montenegro not here and the authorities there should take action to fine and stop the sellers who mislead the clients. People should also educate themselves.
2nd -There's a distinct differences in consistency and in taste and you absolutely cannot confuse one with the other.
3rd - In my post it's clearly written that that is a syrup prepared out of pine buds and pinecones and not honey
4th - I'll write that in bold as you clearly cannot comprehend it in regular font you don't need to use sugar and you don't need to eat it
Are you out of your mind?
Cudomudoviste@reddit
You laterally said you call it PINE HONEY
someone who is not into this will not know the difference.
This should not me advertised or promoted, and you do just that.
If one out of 100 people buy it thinking it is honey and will benefit their health.... and instead they got Shugar in water and pine flavor..... this , in my book is CRIMINAL.
North-Library4037@reddit (OP)
Yes, people here know what's pine honey and nobody's selling pine honey for honey ffs. We are two different countries you realize that?
Go spread the information across Montenegro where's clearly needed not here where's clearly written that it's not honey...
Cudomudoviste@reddit
You do realise we are bout Slavs, orthodox, have similar Lang. ..... i do suggest you to speak with a beekeeper and Maby realize that people who are not into the mater, they DO NOT KNOW that product that looks like honey and it is called pine honey .... in effect it is NOT a honey.
Also, please realise..... it is SHUGAR. it will cose you helt problems in those amounts . few jars are enough for someone with compromised health.

You gotta be kidding me 🤦♀️ Good night!

There are variations of the recipe as some people prepare it with only pine buds, other with only pinecones, and some mix them together. I think mixed would be best. We use the buds and the pinecones of Pinus sylvestris and Pinus nigra trees usually.
Also, most recipes contain a lot of sugar. The syrup is very sweet. So, if you want you can adjust the quantity but it might be a little tricky with achieving the necessary consistency.
here is a standard recipe using both pinecones and buds
koutouzoff@reddit
very popular in my black sea town, but as molasses much darker and intense. tastes amazing fresh pine, sticky, and good for lungs they say
North-Library4037@reddit (OP)
Yes, it can be darker than that in the picture. It depends how long you boil it I guess. It really tastes great!
koutouzoff@reddit
for breakfast with yogurt or on bread with butter or kajmak 😅
bruhmanbruuh@reddit
Pines?
The tallest tree here is a bush.
SabziZindagi@reddit
I've had pine honey from Papades, Evia.

Looks delicious! Wherever I am in springtime, I buy local honey and add it to tea to help with pollen allergies. Now I’m inspired to make french toast.
