In which language is the bar exam in your country?

Given that there were rather violent protests by albanian speaking macedonians for not having this privilege, how is the situation in your country?
Peculiarly, flags of Denmark, US and EU were flown on these protests. Both Denmark and US have the exam in their main language afaik.
In the EU this also mostly the case, ie the bar exam in Estonia is not in Russian. Luxembourg has requirement for all 3 languages to be known but they are very rich and an exception.

The US doesn't have an official language, and every state has her own bar exam, so that point is kind of moot.
damjan193@reddit
But that's not true. You lot keep repeating the same thing on these subs but in Macedonia, Macedonian and Albanian are NOT on the same level. Albanian is only used in areas where there is significant number of Albanians, no where does it say that both languages are equally official. Which makes sense because why would there be mandatory Albanian lanuage in municipalities that 0 Albanians live?
rogomatic@reddit
The 2019 Law on the Use of Languages exists, so I suppose you need to deal with that hot mess first.
damjan193@reddit
It's an unconstitutional law and even goes against the Ohrid framework, which is why its legality is in question, its currently being examined by our courts and is not in use.
rogomatic@reddit
If it's "unconstitutional" why is it still being examined? The Constitutional Court has sat on this long enough, and the CE has already given you their opinion.
damjan193@reddit
The CE are the ones that said the law goes up and beyond most reasonable minority language laws, while the law is clearly unconstitutional if you've ever bothered to read our constitution. The reason there is no decision yet is political. The Albanian party in our government will lose many votes if the law gets scrapped just like that without offering something to its voters, who must receive something ultranationalistic to appease their appetite.

Yes, it doesn't have an official language and each state has a separate rules but all of them are in english? Bar exam is not in spanish right?
rogomatic@reddit
Spanish is not an official language.
Old_Performer8531@reddit
While Kosovo was part of Serbia and Yugolavia, Albanian minority had a privilege to attend state funded schools and state funded university in Albanian language.
Also they could take state lawyer exam in Albanian language.
At the same time in Western Europe similar minorities did not have this type of privilege or funding provide by Western governments.
So what’s the conclusion?
There is no. Every case stands for itself. And every country’s situation is different.

It looks to be a very expensive endeavor and Macedonia is rather poor country
drjnn@reddit
Do you have any sources about the violent part ? Or are you just trying to promote a biased narrative?
Romeo_y_Cohiba@reddit (OP)
I mentioned in the post "countries whose flags were on the protest" as an example. I can give you the source but it was just a couple of days ago and widely reported so felt it wasn't needed.
Fine-Ear-8103@reddit
Kosovo does it for its minorities however so small so why shouldn’t they do it for their 25% minority?
JumpApprehensive9949@reddit
In Kosovo is held in both Albanian and Serbian for the 2% Serbian minority.
And they judge in Serbian language if a translator is needed for the Albanian cases than a translator is provided
amazingamy19@reddit
Dude literally, it was (recent history), or is (depending on who you talk to) Serbian territory, so don’t act like you are doing someone a great favour, and it is randomly in Serbian language.
That is incomparable.
Also, I wonder why there are only 2% of Serbian population in Kosovo today, that you are doing such favour.

okay, genocider.
Stverghame@reddit
A Turk has no right to label others like that. Turks are the blueprint of genocide committing, genocide denial, and genocide support.
Stverghame@reddit
Ah yes, now the comment disappeared, but you're denying a genocide. Shuh, I did say you're the blueprint for genocide denial. Assyrian genocide. Greek genocide. Kurdish genocide. Armenian genocide. Ottoman occupation of the Balkans. Who's next, geno-fan?

Lol Turk is talking
Stverghame@reddit
Literally this lol
They always try to present it as if Serbs there have perfectly fine lives and outstanding benefits for living there
JumpApprehensive9949@reddit
They do just as much as any serb in South Serbia if not more. But serbs of Kosovo move to Belgrade willingly for better oportunities
JumpApprehensive9949@reddit
Why are Serbs in the South of Serbia moving to Beograd?
Perhaps a better life?!
Most of the Serbs (if not all) of Kosovo move to Beograd
True-Blacksmith4235@reddit
Yeah, that’s literally what happened with my banished family. Just shut up.
