Quick or Yoo Hoo?

1- which is better?
2- if quick then strawberry or chocolate
3- did you have the quick bunny mug?? I forgot I drank out of it all the time!
We grew up with Quick chocolate powder in a metal canister (and sometimes strawberry powder) but I remember one year in particular the Yoo Hoo ad campaign was STRONG!
I begged my mom to buy it and she would not- knowing my mom it was just prob too expensive. Years later when I was older a bought myself some Yoo Hoo I found quick was superior imo anyway! So mom for the win!
Also side note- LOVED strawberry quick so much I buy strawberry protein powder to this day lol
SalukiKnightX@reddit
Growing up I used Quik all the time going on to Swiss Miss eventually. My brother who never had the drink growing up, noticeably after watching The Nice Guys, began buying YooHoo from the can. He digs it, I think it’s nasty.
Pretend-Menu-8660@reddit (OP)
Oh yeaaa Swiss miss! Forgot about that one

Hard to find, but the best for making chocolate cokes!
Pretend-Menu-8660@reddit (OP)
Chocolate cokes!? What have a missed? Is this literally mixing Chocolate powder/syrup with Coca Cola?
DigDugDogDun@reddit
Chocolate, vanilla, and cherry (and sometimes lemon and coffee) cokes used to be a thing served at the old style soda fountains. We didn’t have those in our time but they were still served at Ruby’s and Johnny Rockets. Literally just syrups mixed in to the coke but so delicious. If not for the calories and sugar content I’d be having one every single day. The chocolate syrup is the easiest to get, it’s the same stuff you pour over ice cream. For the other flavors, you can buy or probably make them yourself. I haven’t tried this brand but this is the kind of product I’m talking about: https://a.co/d/0aMGHFIC
Pretend-Menu-8660@reddit (OP)
I had no idea this was a thing! Very cool! Oh and btw they are expensive but Olipop sodas are really good and not super sugar filled, not caloric, and not filled with artificial chemicals… it’s my adult treat! They make a cherry coke I LOVE https://drinkolipop.com/?srsltid=AfmBOornEFBqRxpBtrcxe5lKpImkwAYoEzNLOEJ1s24iaY9XhRRdXpxF
coolbandshirt@reddit
Sometimes I see this in the Kosher section of the store instead of with the other chocolate syrups.
have1dog@reddit
The only syrup for making chocolate egg creams
Pretend-Menu-8660@reddit (OP)
You unlocked another memory for me. There were cans of Hershey syrup before the squeeze bottle- they were like the size of a can of beans maybe? and you would use the pointy can opener side to make holes to pour it out. We would use those for egg creams!

I loved strawberry quik. When the base we were stationed stopped carrying it my mom asked the pilots she worked with if they would pick up a can or two on their trips. She was expecting maybe a handful at most but every pilot bought as many as they could find so we ended up with an entire pantry full of strawberry quik.
Pretend-Menu-8660@reddit (OP)
This is part of what my heaven will probably look like- endless supplies of Strawberry quick!
Broad_Tie9383@reddit
I feel this way about Sunny D also. My cousins drank that stuff, but my mom was not a fan. We had frozen orange concentrate, which is still frankly better than anything but fresh squeezed.

i've drank a lot of quick,..ist's not great, yoohoo is good but it's more like high fructose cornsyrup with chocolate flavor (it has a ton of sugar)

A generous squeeze of Hersheys chocolate syrup followed by a healthy pour of 2%, please.

Can't squeeze the metal Hershey's can though.
maggie320@reddit
That’s what I was thinking. Had to puncture two holes in it like a can of Hi-C. It even came with the yellow lid.
Awkwardpanda75@reddit
I became laxtose intolerant in my elder years and would so love a cold glass of strawberry quick milk. Carnation instant breakfast comes close.
DarthBster@reddit
I used to love instant breakfast! It never fully dissolved though...
aliie_627@reddit
It does alright now. Chocolate dissolves better. My son is on a liquid diet and Breakfast essentials (name change) and ensure get heavy usage in my house. I prefer shaking it in a container/bottle the best less spills.
Awkwardpanda75@reddit
Even with a whisk!! Someone suggested using a little warm milk to dissolve then add your cold milk, that's a lot of work when you are 8.
unicorn-beard@reddit
Generous squeeze is the key, you always needed more than you thought. My grandma always had dryers french vanilla ice cream and a bottle of hersheys chocolate syrup, such a simple but delicious dessert.
Sometimesunaware@reddit
First the Quik, then half a glass of whole milk, stir, then a generous squeezed of Hersheys, stir, more milk, stir.
kellybelly4815@reddit
In addition, we always had a small glass container of orange juice (from frozen concentrate—the can of slushie sludge) to wash down our vitamins, and a bowl of Lucky Charms, CooOOOkue Crisp, or Chocolate Pebbles.
It’s a wonder I made it to adulthood without developing diabetes.
Sometimesunaware@reddit
Minute Maid OJ, couldn't leave for school without a glass of juice and the vitamin.

Funny I just bought a thing of Strawberry Quik. Growing up we always had a tin of chocolate but I’ve come around to liking strawberry.
Yoo-Hoo is ok once in a while. I’ll see a bottle in the store and buy it, but not on a regular bases.

Yoo-Hoo is chocolate drink. Quick is chocolate milk. Yes it is different, both are delicious
Withnail_I_am_I_am@reddit
I thought Yoohoo was meh until the day I shook it. We mostly had Ovaltine and Nesquik at home. Yoohoo and Ovaltine were my favorites--also loved banana Nesquik (which I think was limited)--but these days it's mostly the Hershey's syrups, strawberry and chocolate.
Accadius@reddit
Quick. Never was a fan of Yoo-hoo. My favorite was always Hershey’s chocolate syrup mixed with milk. One time as a kid we didn’t have any so I tried mixing baking chocolate powder with milk. It was bitter as hell and not good lol.
inevitablethursday@reddit
Quick. It came in a yellow plastic container.

Strawberry Quick and Choco Milk (mil) for chocolate milk.

50/50 cocoa powder and sugar, mixed with a tiny splash of boiling water, then add milk once the sugar is melted. 10,000% better than either.
Patty_Curlz274@reddit

I love quik on vanilla ice cream, especially if it stays crunchy. My parents only bought vanilla growing up so I spruced mine up with chocolate powder and malted milk, and I still love that grit even though I shouldn't.

Quik was the one. Chocolate of course. No bunny mug. Much later when my littlest half brother was born we switched to Ovaltine and while I prefer it now and give it to my kids I didn't like the switch at the time.

We got both - I (a girl) liked strawberry, my brother liked chocolate. Was similar to our beverage choices at fancy restaurants - I’d get a Shirley Temple, he’d get a Roy Rogers. QUIK, any flavor, and it's not really a contest imo. YooHoo wasn't a big thing until the 90s.
In an attempt to reach out to a younger demographic, Yoo-hoo seized the opportunity to rebrand itself in the 1990s. In 1998, new Yoo-hoo commercials targeting teenagers and young adults hit the airwaves. Yoo-hoo's ads also appeared in publications such as Spin Magazine, with readers encouraged to order Yoo-hoo-themed t-shirts, bandanas, and even Swatch Watches. https://www.thedailymeal.com/1293581/grocery-store-origin-yoo-hoo/
