I sold my old car on eBay. It was a nightmare. People would win the bid, never pay and not respond to contact. You can't cancel the sale to the person and relist it for no fee, you have to pay the £25 or whatever it is fee every time it gets listed. I had to relist mine 4 times because people would bid and disappear, and I had to keep contacting eBay to get them to refund the listing fee. There was no way to report the buyers either. The car only sold for about £350 as the clutch was gone, it was 18 years old with 180k miles, so that listing fee really hurt. I don't know what it's like on auto trader.

If you sell privately, as well as completing the V5 sections to send to DVLA, type or write out a transfer note/receipt for the buyer, something along the lines of ; ========================= Received £x in full and final payment for (car make and model, registration number, VIN), sold as seen, without warranty or guarantee, either express or implied. Date, and you sign. Received (car as above) on payment of £x, sold as seen, without warranty or guarantee express or implied. Buyer dates and signs ======================================== Two copies, you each sign both, keep one copy each.

I mean you could try putting a for sale sign on the windscreen my friend done this and someone bought his 03 Yaris for £650. you could try autotrader aswell. I mostly use autotrader and it's my go to car search website.

If you want my viewpoint id list it on Facebook for 1 grand. People will always haggle on any website and you will both walk home happy. Ebay tbh I've only used for buying products and not big stuff like cars and I'm pretty sure on eBay you have to sell a car. But small or cheap cars I've always looked at autotrader. Also be as honest as you can my mates 03 yaris was practically heading to the scrap and this guy was like I'll pay £650 and do it up myself. I still don't know how he managed to sell it for £650 for that car 😭😭😭.

Either are fine, as is Facebook marketplace, but you have to deal with the type of people who want to spend £800 on a car i.e. car flippers who want to knock you down on price, people who expect an £800 car to be immaculate, con artists who buy it, swap parts and demand you refund them for a 'faulty' car. The likes of Motorway / CarWow / WBAC will give you less for it, but it's hassle - free. In my experience anyway.

I'd suggest that might be unfair. I've looked for two cars in about 18 months and gumtree just isn't the site it once was. Years ago it was very effective, but now it's a shadow of what it was.

I tried EBay classified but had no luck. Have a look at CarWow and Motorway as well? May not get a high price but at least you have protection of a platform for payment / kyc etc. GOOD LUCK!!

Autotrader will tell you the likely sale value of the car (based on real sale values) which is handy, even if you sell it elsewhere.

I sold mine through auto trader. The best thing about it in my opinion is that your number is replaced by a proxy so people can't ring you afterwards. Of course the buyer will know where you live if they collect the car from your house, but others won't be able to keep your number and bother you after it's sold. The website is really easy to use too, I've never sold a car before and I was okay. It took about a month to sell it, so be prepared to wait. I think there's also an option for traders to get in touch but I can't remember. Do what's best for you and follow the safety advice. Good luck!

Peugeot 107. We buy any car said £400. Bloke down the road who sells small ones offered £300 and he only glanced at it. Someone on fb said £500. I’m going with the notion it’s worth what someone is willing to pay for it. It’s a runaround. My brother had the same one when he was doing delivery driving.

for an £800 car the platform almost matters less than pricing and timing. Cheap runarounds sell fast if they start, drive properly, and have decent MOT left.

I’ve been driving it 2 years and only ever had a little welding and 2 tires on. It’s perfect for what it is. And yeah MOT was done in feb so plenty of time left. I have no idea but I was expecting the fast turnaround to be a week. And it’s been 2 I think 😂

The biggest mistake sellers make is writing vague listings. Cheap cars sell better when you are brutally clear. Mention MOT length, recent work, any faults, mileage, service history, and whether it starts and drives reliably. Buyers looking at £800 cars expect imperfections already. What scares them off is uncertainty and hidden problems more than scratches or age.
