Have you noticed lately this weird trend of no butter in sandwiches? Every time I go into a shop that makes sandwiches I now have to specifically ask. To me, it's not toast or a sandwich without butter....it's implied.
I got in to an argument with colleagues last week about whether you should put butter on cold bread? Like to them that was an insane thing to do, I just thought it was a given.
Never ever got that. If I open a store bought sandwich.. no butter. Why?! Butter! Needs butter!
But then I’m an oddball for putting a little on my burger buns.. that’s because burgers rarely fill the bun, & even with a sauce, it’s just.. bread. With ketchup. Or mayo (chicken burger), or relish etc etc. I want me buttehhhh! 😆 (Also.. I was raised on a farm, it was slapped on most things 😂)
Butter on toast yes..butter in a sandwich yuk, specifically the cheap spread places use. Mayo in a sandwich, definitely yes please, or coleslaw or another appropriate spread depending on the filling
When I was a kid and didn't know how to make anything else. Without wishing to look down upon beans on toast or those that enjoy it, there are so many other things I'd rather cook and eat. So it's been decades since I had beans on toast. Were I to have it now I'd treat it as a blank canvas and experiment with additions. Probably hot sauce and cheese?
I don't put them directly ON the toast as I find it can make the toast too soggy. I put them next to the toast, cut a bite-size piece of toast, then put a few beans on it and put it in my mouth.

kilgore_trout1@reddit
Apparently it’s an American thing as they don’t tend to put butter in sandwiches.
But they also don’t tend to have kettles so they are best ignored.
fisico002@reddit
And it’s to suit vegans
Careless_Count7224@reddit
Usually when I say "butter" I really mean "butter, or margarine, or equivalent".
crispycat40@reddit
Or just preferences. I hate the texture
antonylockhart@reddit
Isn’t that because they use mayo on everything? Note, that’s not a critique, mayo is great.
everybodyctfd@reddit

imtheorangeycenter@reddit
If there is bread, there shall be butter (or butter-adjacent product)
No ifs or buts. In all situations. This also includes scones.
kilgore_trout1@reddit
And crumpets
imtheorangeycenter@reddit
By the time you've applied the right amount of butter, there's more butter than crumpet, so it's a subset rule :)
PipBin@reddit
It’s a generational thing I understand. The youngsters don’t butter their bread for sandwiches.
crispycat40@reddit
Oh my god, am I young?! Yay!
crispycat40@reddit
Personally I hate butter or any type of spread, so I’m on board with this.

If it's Heinz yea if it's broad or other ones no
mcshaggin@reddit
Heinz are overrated and overpriced. Cheap supermarket homebrands are just as good.
Awellknownstick@reddit
Depends on which
ButteredNun@reddit
Yes, but I must count them. If there’s an odd number then I flick one at the cat to undo the bad luck.
crispycat40@reddit
Aren’t cats intolerant to tomatoes? Bad luck Felix
ButteredNun@reddit
It’s when I have an odd number of coconuts that the cat needs to worry
Neddlings55@reddit
I have beans on my toast, and toast with no beans thats nice and crispy.
You need the best of both imo.
crispycat40@reddit
Is the pope catholic?
No-Decision1581@reddit
Have heard he is addicted to cats
crispycat40@reddit
I mean, fair
TuffB80@reddit
Why has this never come to me before. Love it
nicholvengian@reddit
In our household its "does the pope shit in the woods" or "is a bear catholic"
ReniSquire@reddit
I know the last one was. Not sure about the current one.
philff1973@reddit
It’s easier than try to put toast under beans.
Harald_TheEnduring@reddit
What about if you have them next to each other?
philff1973@reddit
That’s the kind of Out Of The Box thinking this country needs, I shall be voting for you in the next elections, whether you like it or not.
MachineMuted7292@reddit
Yes.
MixPlus@reddit
Of course. It's their natural home. Sourdough toast, real butter, beans, HP Sauce.
stonewallgamer@reddit
Branston beans and you've got me. Heinz has gone down the toilet with their watery mess

Harald_TheEnduring@reddit
Smoked bacon and cheese is a good one. Dash of Worcestershire sauce in the beans while they’re heating.
skibbin@reddit
My air fryer has made chips nearly as easy as toast, so I may take your suggestion and do chips cheese and beans with it 👍
B0Bo75@reddit
Does a bear shit in the woods?
stonewallgamer@reddit
Depends if someone hears it.... no wait...
Used-Needleworker719@reddit
Of course. With a sprinkling of grated cheese and it’s top tier food. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, a snack…
cutluv@reddit
Me too. Strong cheddar if there's a choice, and a large dollop of HP.
TuffB80@reddit
There’s always someone that takes it that step too far 🤣
cutluv@reddit
😜
TuffB80@reddit
I mean I’m going to try it but still..
cutluv@reddit
Hey, throw off any inhibitions and flick that HP cap...
sbaldrick33@reddit
No, I have my butler do it for me. 🧐🇬🇧

Yes, with a dash of worcestersestercestershire sauce
Imaginary_Regret_983@reddit
I ask the toast first to see if it’s alright
PhattyR6@reddit
No dawg, i put the toast on the beans.
moidartach@reddit
Yes. Unsure why this is a real question. Buttered toast is lovely and so are baked beans. They go perfectly together
suspicious-donut88@reddit
No, I hate beans guts. I put spaghetti hoops on toast.
andyH1971@reddit
Urrg NO horrid little fart capsules I hate them
BastardsCryinInnit@reddit
Never heard of this
apeliott@reddit
No, never. I've never had baked beans.
I just put butter and jam on toast.
ChallengingKumquat@reddit
You'll be flown off to a detention camp in Rwanda if you keep talking like that.
Joel-Asher-Nicolaou@reddit
Jam? On toast? Jam?! Psychopath.
Educational-Cow-3874@reddit
Jam should be in doughnuts, not on toast.
Indigo-Waterfall@reddit
When making beans on toast? Yeah…? Where else would they go?
eeyorethechaotic@reddit
No, i do not like beans, so don't put them anywhere.
pharmamess@reddit
In the bin?
TuffB80@reddit
If I fancy some beans on toast I tend to put beans on toast but I’ve always been a bit out there
mcshaggin@reddit
Of course. What brit doesn't?
Supermarket home brand beans in toast. Cheap and cheerful. Even cash strapped students can eat well with it.
boojes@reddit
My kids like toast on beans.
SpectreSingh89@reddit
On the side rather than on top.
Ilovescarlatti@reddit
Yes separately so the toast stays crispy
DrMacAndDog@reddit
If you put them underneath the toast, you end up forgetting about them and inside is just too much trouble.
dabassmonsta@reddit
Of course! It's not like they can get on there by themselves.
ChallengingKumquat@reddit
I don't put them directly ON the toast as I find it can make the toast too soggy. I put them next to the toast, cut a bite-size piece of toast, then put a few beans on it and put it in my mouth.

BeanOnAJourney@reddit
When I want beans on toast, yes.
The_Phantom78@reddit
Oh yes, add on cheese to that and you've got one banger of a meal.
Arbernaut@reddit
Other than a full English breakfast, is there any other way?
ChaseTWind-TouchTSky@reddit
Gory damn no..... beans straight in the bin.
Historical_Project86@reddit
Only if I'm having beans on toast. Otherwise, it's just crazy talk.
QuaintStaircase@reddit
Yes. Often with those little sausages in.
Perfect depression meal.
chefshoes@reddit
Better than putting them in a ramekin
