Teen/single parent here. (32 now but, at one time a teen parent lol). I'm a very rare minority of the single parents I've met that do not bring someone to meet their child right away. I was single and fairly active on dating apps so I've had many, many encounters with single moms and their decision making when they even moderately like a guy was staggering. Most of them would bring me around almost immediately. I could legitimately be a creep, a trafficker, violent, stalker, they dont know. Some waited till after one date which still isnt enough time to know someone, some women it was immediate. I MAYBE met one or two in the entire time that was like me and kept their romantic life seperate from being a parent for 6+ months. Constantly bringing people in and out of a kids life is fucked and I felt terrible for many of the kids. At that point it's clear where their priority lies so it never lasted very long, I can't really relate to or respect someone that puts random guys over their role as a parent/protector.
I'm not a single parent and i'm just guessing here but i would think they wanna make sure you don't act like a dick to the kid before progressing further with you
Possibly... you should probably get to know someone thoroughly before bringing them around the kid though. Also based on an unfortunate amount of horror stories I've personally seen, the women that bring men around immediately don't particularly care how good you are with the child as long as the mom likes you...which is fucked.
Just have sex when your child is at the other parent's. I dated my current girlfriend for 7 or so months before she was ever in the presence of my child. Obviously this isn't as easy if the other parent isn't around at all, but getting laid really isn't your biggest issue at that point 😆
But there are many cases when dads aren't around. What are these moms supposed to do then? Go to the guy and get home late or asking for the grandparents helpor what?
Just get a babysitter or ask your family if you have a support system. Im not saying those women dont deserve love and shouldn't even try, but there's serious concerns raised to me about someone's character when they are bringing dudes theyve only met on dating apps around their kids immediately.
More or less, yeah. Everyone's schedule is different, and some parents have different custody arrangements so your mileage may vary. It's doable though. Pretty much every single woman I've been involved with has been understanding on that matter
It's wild, isn't it? Even in my own case, I'm a single dad and it took me almost 2 years before I introduced someone to my son. Very brief, just a couple hours playing minigolf together, to get a feel for things. Meanwhile his mom was letting the guy she's totally not sleeping with spend the night after knowing him a couple months with our kid sleeping downstairs.
Except same boat brother. I didn't want to throw shade at my son's mom in my post, but shes definitely one of the people I was describing. She's probably introduced 20+ different dudes to him at this point, all within the first few weeks of knowing them. Ive let one woman meet my son and I've been with her for six years (let her meet after 7ish months after I knew there was longevity possible). Its upsetting but theres nothing i can do about it sadly.
It's been a while now but back when I was doing a lot of serial dating it was actually really shocking how quickly a few women tried to introduce me to their kids. Also super off putting. I grew up with divorced parents who both ran through partners like it was a competition for a few years and it definitely created a lot of drama and instability.
When i was a kid my mother started sleeping with a guy not dating and within a couple of weeks I was going fishing with him on his boat. He was the only of her flings who cared enough to do that with me but I ended up getting decently familiar with all of them and there were a lot.
A very close friend of mine is a single mom and I don't know if she's mentally capable of making a good decision. But she's aware of it and almost, like... Proud of it? Dudes show up in her life like mosquitos in the swamp thinking they're gonna save her and I'm like bud, you actual dumbass, you are in over your head.
My old roommate used to date around a lot and met a couple single moms in a row. Every single one was introducing him to their kid and trying to offload parental responsibilities onto him after one date, only a week in. It freaked him out, I hate to think what would have happened if any of those women met a guy with bad intentions and let them hang around their kids immediately. That's not to say anything about single moms in general, but literally immediately introducing your kid to who is basically a stranger does happen.
My mom waited till she knew the relationship was serious to tell me. I already knew who he was as a person (I was friends with his son in preschool), so it wasn’t like a huge shock to me.
They started dating when I was in elementary school and got married when I was in high school, and they’ve been married almost a decade now. They’re really happy together and he’s a great guy.
Knew a guy that went on a date with a single mom, she wanted to end the first date by having him come with here and pick up the kids at their dads. There was no second date.
I know so many women that will invite a man over to their place for a 2nd or 3rd date. Movie night type shit, because they can’t afford a sitter and the dudes meet the kids that soon. It’s insane.
A friend of mine's girlfriend set me up with her single cousin. I went to her house because she couldn't go anywhere because she didn't have a babysitter, she introduced me to her daughter, sent the daughter to bed, within half an hour of meeting her she told me that she wanted another child.
I think it varies around the world, dating culture sounds pretty cut-throat in some places.
Its fucked but ultimately the poorer your area, the more likely you'll come across someone desperate, or someone with a history of abuse thats left them unstable.
I met a single mom who was into Abdl play and wore diapers and thought her kids to wear them to. A lot of them are not well put together and you do not need to be smart to give birth
I really appreciate hearing this. I’m the child of a single mom, and she is the sweetest, best parent I could ever ask for. She isn’t even divorced or broken up or anything, she just went to a sperm donor to have kids and never got married.
Reddit hate for single moms is so weird and obviously misogynistic.
My mother also was a single mom for a few years until she met my dad. She just had a regular divorce after he did not work out with her previous husband, shit just happen
Nothing against stepdads but i genuinely don’t understand how some guys willingly date single moms, like even if you do want to take on that sort of inherited responsibility there’s always a big chance (especially if the kid is like under 10) that she’s still messing around with her “baby daddy” just way too many childless women to be going through all of this for lol
I'm not a man so I've always been curious, would your approach to a single mum be different if instead of being a divorcee, she was a widow?
From the rest of the comments in the thread it looks like people think single moms are extra crazy because it shows they make bad decisions, but is that different if we instead had our partner pass away?
Women usually chose to have a child. Women usually don't chose to have their partner die. Although not all single moms are that way because their crazy.
Thats not really an answer to what I was asking. I was wondering if dating a woman who has a child is the issue or if it's dating a woman who doesn't put as much foresight into decisions that's the problem
It’s not that single moms are crazy (or single fathers) it’s just typically there’s alot of drama that comes with dating them, for me personally I don’t think I could do it under any circumstances but dating a widower is very different than like a normal single parent.
Surely that drama would change however? I only bring this up because I considered it myself. The family didn't really bring any drama because it was never a point of comparison but one of gratitude as I was seen as taking on responsibility rather than replacement.
I can only speak for myself, but a widow is a single mother because of actions outside her control. She did the right thing of having the child in wedlock (foresight, good decisions) but fate is cruel and took her husband away.
Contrast this with what we usually thing of single mothers; impulsive, short sighted, prone to making dumb decisions, etc.
i watched 1 or whatever amount of episodes (can't remember, it's been years) and saw the main character being weird around little girls. Some time later saw there were fan service of little girls or "adults" who happen to look like little girls on the internet as well. I heard there is more to it than that for this anime and i've never actually seen anyone talk badly about it but it creeped me out so i dropped it
Dunno about most but sometimes it creepes in. Like your watching one where everyone seems like adult and then POW little sister/cousin/friend or something comes and now you have that.
Or just find out their age while in the middle of it.
I don’t have kids. My sister in law is convinced I have something nefarious planned with her children because when they are around I pay attention to them and during birthdays and Holidays I get them gifts they say they want. She told my wife “everyone else just buys them whatever is in the store and your husband gets them exactly what they ask for and that’s weird.” Heaven forbid someone pay attention to these kids. Can’t imagine how fucked up in the head they’ll be when they are older.
What if the dad just run away and blocked her because he was too immature.
A lot of man are fine with pregnancy but when it come to being a father they leave
Still a huge red flag because it still shows inability to choose suitable partners.
Definitely not the kind of woman you want to stick together with, and if you're being fine with it would also tell something about you - it means you're in the "bad partners" group
You don't know the quality of a partner when you start dating them.
Sometimes some of the sweetest men can turn into monsters once they have you.
The boy that was so gently when she was caressing you can turn into the man you are afraid to talk to because he might slap you at any moment.
I would want to be with a single mother who have survived bring a single mother instead of being a man to come back or worse to put the kid at risk for the sake of the realtionship with her partner.
And why I a bad partner if I choose to be with her?
There is no absolute bad or good in a relationship all it matters is if there is love and both are happy.
Here it is, we've found "The enabler"/"Person of no self worth"
You date a partner specifically to discover those hidden traits. Not being able to properly test them during this period, and ending up having to raise a child alone, means you're a failure in selecting partners, period
Sticking with a partner for the children's sake, taking responsibility, trying to make the relationship work, are actually good traits. Still far from being perfect, since you should be able not to have a child if that's not what you want, but it's still better than being an immature prick that runs away because "she's better alone anyway"
You're a bad partner if you stick with that kind of woman because you enable their bad behaviour (being irresponsible/reckless/superficial, even when dealing with life-altering issues) and you're someone that's fine with degrading themselves becoming the second choice/problem fixer
Yes, there are few, very few cases where the single mother is not at fault (widows, for example) but those are still a second and inferior choice compared to a whole world of women that don't carry such heavy baggage; if you truly are a worthy man and a provider you should form your own family and raise your own child, not another man's one
I am into irresponsible women because the responsible ones want to make you to have more responsibility too. And even if two people have a kid sometimes dessert comes before launch if we decide that today is an exception and we don't need to reclean from zero the whole house every week.
Sometimes you are either reckless or don't act at all. I want a girl that wants to try things. I want a girl that is not afraid to do something if she wants. I want a girl that takes risks because dating means sometimes taking a risk.
The word we live in is superficial and artificial. Maybe she is just distant not superficial.
Degrading?
I am equally to her and I don't wanna be part of any equation, I don't really care what other thinks.
Second choice?
Who dosen't deserves one if they acknowledge their mistakes?
Problem fixer?
We will fix together because life is full of problems.
Such heavy baggages?
An inocent kid that didn't deserved to be the victim of a toxic man and of a society that finds excuse for what that toxic man did.
I would adopt anyway (you don't know if I got or not a medical problem that makes me infertile) so why not adopting one with a mother?
He is saying OP is a dumbass for not being aware of the optics and giving away easy ammo to a salty single mother. Woman are very good at using language in bad faith.
Imagine dating a single mother who while you pay for her kids shit she fucks the dude who doesn’t want to take care of his own kid. Gross.
Good for the mother though, gets dick from a dick (hot) and gets a dick to pay for the consequences of dick (good). All in all a pretty good case of getting her cake and eating it too.
Many many many men would love the opportunity of having a wife and getting to fuck some bitch on the side.
Getting along with the kid is literally a bad call in a lot of cases. If the partner is reasonable, it's fine. But if the partner is unreasonable (which is the case a lot of the time), getting along with the kid reminds them of their incompetence as a parent. Anon should've slid the kid 10$ and asked him to pretend do dislike him. The mom would've been like "See? Having a kid is hard as fuck."
Once you make a positive impact on a kid's life they will never forget you. Having anyone, literally anyone, take the time of day to see them as a person will lock a small amount of hope for humanity in their little brain at a basal level and will influence the rest of their life. Sadly, the inverse is also true. It's why child abuse is so tragic. You're just walking into a construction site and taking a giant shit in the foundation while the concrete is setting, then the crew has to figure out how to build a structurally sound house on top of your shit mixture.
That's fucking heartbreaking. If it was him and not his mother using his phone to try and guilt-trip your friend into asking for a second chance with some amendments(giving her money).
I know a single mom with a special needs kid. Her first decision after getting the divorce was to get a boob job. I also found out from common friends that she ended up dating a guy and after only a couple of weeks, she left the kid with the guy, both of them alone at home, while she went to enjoy some "me" time. The dude did not agree with it, but decided to be civil and take care of the kid.
And after the guy told her that he was not expecting that and he has no experience in dealing with special kids, she threw a tantrum and blocked him.
The guy is probably moving on with his life and now has a story to tell at a pint of beer.
The kid is still living with his mom, doing what special needs children do.
The mom is probably still looking for a sugar daddy. Dont know. I usually find out information about her the same way I find out about american politics: against my will.
I'm morseo guessing the relationship between op and the mom was already rocky, and when the kid started agreeing with op instead of her it didn't make sense in her head, so she accused him of doing something that he could blackmail the kid with. idk, crazy people have crazy logic.
Look, not everyone is like that. But i'm pretty sure this is true cause the amount of parents i saw are insanely jealouse of their kids. I don't think the mother was cheating, just probably jealous of anon being a better parental figure to the kid than herself, or/and the kid having attention that as kid they should get.

Also based on an unfortunate amount of horror stories I've personally seen, the women that bring men around immediately don't particularly care how good you are with the child as long as the mom likes you...which is fucked.
GGGGG540lk@reddit
How to have sex then?
Odd_Plankton_925@reddit
Just have sex when your child is at the other parent's. I dated my current girlfriend for 7 or so months before she was ever in the presence of my child. Obviously this isn't as easy if the other parent isn't around at all, but getting laid really isn't your biggest issue at that point 😆
GGGGG540lk@reddit
But there are many cases when dads aren't around. What are these moms supposed to do then? Go to the guy and get home late or asking for the grandparents helpor what?
Odd_Plankton_925@reddit
Just get a babysitter or ask your family if you have a support system. Im not saying those women dont deserve love and shouldn't even try, but there's serious concerns raised to me about someone's character when they are bringing dudes theyve only met on dating apps around their kids immediately.
GGGGG540lk@reddit
Yeah unfortunatelly sexual abuse is really common with step-parents. I get your concerns.
GGGGG540lk@reddit
So like every other week basically?
Odd_Plankton_925@reddit
More or less, yeah. Everyone's schedule is different, and some parents have different custody arrangements so your mileage may vary. It's doable though. Pretty much every single woman I've been involved with has been understanding on that matter
GGGGG540lk@reddit
So that means hittünk it roughly 4-6 times a month then. If my calculations are correct.
mandrewsf@reddit

It's wild, isn't it? Even in my own case, I'm a single dad and it took me almost 2 years before I introduced someone to my son. Very brief, just a couple hours playing minigolf together, to get a feel for things. Meanwhile his mom was letting the guy she's totally not sleeping with spend the night after knowing him a couple months with our kid sleeping downstairs.
Odd_Plankton_925@reddit
Except same boat brother. I didn't want to throw shade at my son's mom in my post, but shes definitely one of the people I was describing. She's probably introduced 20+ different dudes to him at this point, all within the first few weeks of knowing them. Ive let one woman meet my son and I've been with her for six years (let her meet after 7ish months after I knew there was longevity possible). Its upsetting but theres nothing i can do about it sadly.
nelsonalgrencametome@reddit
It's been a while now but back when I was doing a lot of serial dating it was actually really shocking how quickly a few women tried to introduce me to their kids. Also super off putting. I grew up with divorced parents who both ran through partners like it was a competition for a few years and it definitely created a lot of drama and instability.
Brandon-Tiago@reddit
When i was a kid my mother started sleeping with a guy not dating and within a couple of weeks I was going fishing with him on his boat. He was the only of her flings who cared enough to do that with me but I ended up getting decently familiar with all of them and there were a lot.

driku12@reddit

GGGGG540lk@reddit
It's kinda inevitable. The can't sleep at the guy's place due to habingbkids so the only option is to call them over, no?

I really appreciate hearing this. I’m the child of a single mom, and she is the sweetest, best parent I could ever ask for. She isn’t even divorced or broken up or anything, she just went to a sperm donor to have kids and never got married.

Reddit hate for single moms is so weird and obviously misogynistic.
My mother also was a single mom for a few years until she met my dad. She just had a regular divorce after he did not work out with her previous husband, shit just happen
Much_Prune6698@reddit
Nothing against stepdads but i genuinely don’t understand how some guys willingly date single moms, like even if you do want to take on that sort of inherited responsibility there’s always a big chance (especially if the kid is like under 10) that she’s still messing around with her “baby daddy” just way too many childless women to be going through all of this for lol
TheSearchForMars@reddit
I'm not a man so I've always been curious, would your approach to a single mum be different if instead of being a divorcee, she was a widow?
From the rest of the comments in the thread it looks like people think single moms are extra crazy because it shows they make bad decisions, but is that different if we instead had our partner pass away?
BobDylansBasterdSon@reddit
Women usually chose to have a child. Women usually don't chose to have their partner die. Although not all single moms are that way because their crazy.
TheSearchForMars@reddit
Thats not really an answer to what I was asking. I was wondering if dating a woman who has a child is the issue or if it's dating a woman who doesn't put as much foresight into decisions that's the problem
BobDylansBasterdSon@reddit
The first is often a result of the later. But it probably depends per person. Dating a single mom is not for everyone, even if they are well adjusted.
Much_Prune6698@reddit
It’s not that single moms are crazy (or single fathers) it’s just typically there’s alot of drama that comes with dating them, for me personally I don’t think I could do it under any circumstances but dating a widower is very different than like a normal single parent.
thereoncewasahat@reddit
Single mums can be very attractive.
They now have lower standards for a man, as they are desperate for a provider, and the top tier men are no longer interested because of baggage.
So a lower tier guy can end up plowing a woman he previously had no chance with, if he's willing to accept the baggage.
This is the hard truth, and we so know it.
Available_Surround12@reddit
“woman desperate for provider”
“top tier men”
you’re forgetting this is real life
thereoncewasahat@reddit
Look at your stepkids, click.
TheSearchForMars@reddit
Surely that drama would change however? I only bring this up because I considered it myself. The family didn't really bring any drama because it was never a point of comparison but one of gratitude as I was seen as taking on responsibility rather than replacement.
MachineMan718@reddit
I can only speak for myself, but a widow is a single mother because of actions outside her control. She did the right thing of having the child in wedlock (foresight, good decisions) but fate is cruel and took her husband away.
Contrast this with what we usually thing of single mothers; impulsive, short sighted, prone to making dumb decisions, etc.

ImportantResponse0@reddit
What if the dad just run away and blocked her because he was too immature. A lot of man are fine with pregnancy but when it come to being a father they leave
Mufficida@reddit
Still a huge red flag because it still shows inability to choose suitable partners.
Definitely not the kind of woman you want to stick together with, and if you're being fine with it would also tell something about you - it means you're in the "bad partners" group
ImportantResponse0@reddit
You don't know the quality of a partner when you start dating them.
Sometimes some of the sweetest men can turn into monsters once they have you.
The boy that was so gently when she was caressing you can turn into the man you are afraid to talk to because he might slap you at any moment.
I would want to be with a single mother who have survived bring a single mother instead of being a man to come back or worse to put the kid at risk for the sake of the realtionship with her partner.
And why I a bad partner if I choose to be with her?
There is no absolute bad or good in a relationship all it matters is if there is love and both are happy.
Mufficida@reddit
ImportantResponse0@reddit
In my defense evetyone likes what they likes.

Good for the mother though, gets dick from a dick (hot) and gets a dick to pay for the consequences of dick (good). All in all a pretty good case of getting her cake and eating it too.
Many many many men would love the opportunity of having a wife and getting to fuck some bitch on the side.
_eleutheria@reddit
Getting along with the kid is literally a bad call in a lot of cases. If the partner is reasonable, it's fine. But if the partner is unreasonable (which is the case a lot of the time), getting along with the kid reminds them of their incompetence as a parent. Anon should've slid the kid 10$ and asked him to pretend do dislike him. The mom would've been like "See? Having a kid is hard as fuck."
CT0292@reddit
A friend of mine dated a single mom for a while. He showed me how the kid texts him on his birthday.
Kid remembered his birthday and checked in on him. Despite the mom breaking it off with him.
driku12@reddit
Once you make a positive impact on a kid's life they will never forget you. Having anyone, literally anyone, take the time of day to see them as a person will lock a small amount of hope for humanity in their little brain at a basal level and will influence the rest of their life. Sadly, the inverse is also true. It's why child abuse is so tragic. You're just walking into a construction site and taking a giant shit in the foundation while the concrete is setting, then the crew has to figure out how to build a structurally sound house on top of your shit mixture.
RawardHoikes91@reddit

I know a single mom with a special needs kid. Her first decision after getting the divorce was to get a boob job. I also found out from common friends that she ended up dating a guy and after only a couple of weeks, she left the kid with the guy, both of them alone at home, while she went to enjoy some "me" time. The dude did not agree with it, but decided to be civil and take care of the kid.
And after the guy told her that he was not expecting that and he has no experience in dealing with special kids, she threw a tantrum and blocked him.

There are two types of single mothers: Those that would choose the kid and those who would chose the partner.
