Who’s going to see He-Man?

Ok Gen-X’ers. Who here is going to see the new He-Man movie?
I told myself there was no way I was going to watch it, but I was lying to myself, of course I am, taking my daughter too!
It looks like a fun movie and I loved the cartoon and had a load of the toys as a kid.
Narrow-Research-5730@reddit
I haven't been too a movie in 20 years. I will definitely stream it when it comes out.
mjh8212@reddit
I loved he man and she ra as a kid. I saw he man on ice watched the cartoon and the original movie. I will see the new one but going out to movies is too expensive I’ll wait for streaming.
FlanProfessional4080@reddit
I'll wait for digital. Definitely want to see it but not enough to spend that much money.
Dynamo_Ham@reddit
I didn’t even like He-Man when I was a kid.
StankyBassFace@reddit
Nah, I don't want yet another childhood obsession ruined by 21st century enshittification.
cabin-porch-rocker@reddit
You said it! When they came for my Smurfs, I was done
Magica78@reddit
My first core memory is the Battle Cat roar, but no I won't be watching it. I don't support nostalgia bait on principle.
Hopper-bayonet@reddit
My 8yo son found my old He-Man toys and has been playing with them non-stop. I just told him about the movie and he is stoked to go see it. An I’m stoked to see it with him.
kevbayer@reddit
I'll wait to rent it. But I definitely want to see it.
ElectionElectrical11@reddit
Is it going to have the wierd dwarf and the fancy keyboard in it? >.>
SheriffBartholomew@reddit
I may catch it on streaming for free if I'm bored. I haven't been interested in He-man in 40+ years.
Astronaut6735@reddit
Not me. This is the first I've heard of a movie. I was in eighth grade when the cartoon came out, and I by then I wasn't watching cartoons anymore.
whirlydad@reddit
It looks really bad. The fact that it has Fisto in it tells me it's going to be treated like a joke. Dolph wasn't great but I think I'll stick with his version.
moneyman74@reddit
I think my interest in He-Man peaked in 1983..
Astronaut6735@reddit
So when it came out?
hells_cowbells@reddit
I'm only watch it if He-Man does the What's Going On song from the meme.
draven33l@reddit
He-Man was my first cartoon I loved. I have very little interest. It looks OK, but it just looks like a Marvel or DC movie. Silly, disposable. I can’t get excited for 90% green screen and CG. It’s He-Man for a new generation.
Mortimer452@reddit
I eye-rolled pretty hard when it was announced but after watching the trailer, honestly it looks like a fun movie, definitely planning on checking it out.
EPCreep@reddit
I will be there Thursday night! I was seeing it, no matter what. He-Man was o e of my 2 favorite cartoons as a kid (the other GIJoe) and I revisit the show from time to time. I’m excited!
handsomeape95@reddit
There's no way I could stay up for a midnight showing anymore. I had midnight showing tickets to Superman last year and ended up canceling a few hours before. I was in bed by 9!
EPCreep@reddit
Same! I saw they have showing here for 6 and 9. I’m all over that 6pm showing haha.
Mr_Pogi_In_Space@reddit
Loved rhe cartoon but hated the 80s live action movie. I'll wait for the reviews to come in first
handsomeape95@reddit
I'm going to force myself to watch the movie again just to watch for easter eggs. Supposedly Dolph has a cameo in this one.
antisocialdecay@reddit
I’m 47 so yeah, I’m going! Just to see Trap-Jaw, Mekanek, and Ram-Man!
handsomeape95@reddit
And Fisto! Don't forget about Fisto!
LadyNorbert@reddit
I definitely want to see it. My sister and I loved He-man and She-ra and had all the toys, and I also loved the Kevin Smith reboot cartoon on Netflix. (It is amazingly well written and has a lot of famous names doing voices, like Sarah Michelle Gellar as Teela.) I think the new movie looks like a ton of fun.
xBobaFattx@reddit
I liked the Kevin Smith reboot but man, it is darrrrrk
LadyNorbert@reddit
Definitely darker than I expected, but I was sucked in by the incredible storytelling.
Hairbear2176@reddit
I sure as hell am! I'm also getting the drink sword and the Castle Greyskull popcorn bucket? Why? Because I have adult money now!
handsomeape95@reddit
Exactly! I may even take the day off and see it.
Diasies_inMyHair@reddit
Youngest Son intends to go see it at the theater. I'll wait unil it hits "Free with your subscription" on Netflix or whatever.
actuallyno60@reddit
I was 18 when it came out and we watched it because it was so bad. I'll skip the movie.
TynkerTyler@reddit
I will definitely be seeing it more than once.
space_wiener@reddit
The moment it’s available to rent/stream. Yes! No question at all.
In the theaters? Not thanks.
Blephotomy@reddit
c'mon bro we'll give everyone popcorn, ice chips, and phones; it'll be fun
Paul-E-L@reddit
No Orko means I can wait until streaming
Chuckles_McNut@reddit
NO ORKO?? fuk off
lionbacker54@reddit
I didn’t even like he-man back in the day, but I’m going to watch just because it’s nostalgia
stoneangel79@reddit
Going opening night. Try and stop me. I have been waiting for this and the trailer looks amazing. There is so much attention to detail!
daydreamersunion@reddit
I am now so far divorced from my 80s childhood that I could probably see this movie and not have too many "get off my lawn" old man moments lol.
If this had come out 25 years ago I would have probably had more energy to be critical.
xBobaFattx@reddit
I am excited for it, but I just really hope they don't ruin it like they did the abominations that are the G.I. Joe movies. I am sure it's an "old man shakes fist at sky" moment for me, but don't fuck with my nostalgia lol.
mrsristretto@reddit
I plan on being there as that is my birthday!
ronwabo@reddit
I'll be there opening night in the theater for this. MOTU was such a big part of my childhood, and this movie looks like it gets it. Plus the cast is stacked and it's getting pretty good reviews so far.
Other-Crazy@reddit
It looks like yet another shiny CGI slop fest.
Loved the cartoon but this? Unless the kids want to see it, which I doubt, nope.
ThePythiaofApollo@reddit
They’re actually doing a lot of practical effects with costuming. I saw a video where they were showing Moss Man in particular and Travis Knight was discussing how he was approaching the characters.
jgrumiaux@reddit
Could have been great if they’d made the kind of film Gen X also grew up with: practical effects, physical sets, coherent (not overblown) action.
peacefinder@reddit
The greatest live-action He-Man that will ever be
Cranks_No_Start@reddit
As an early Xer He man was out of my age range as a kid.
Conscious_String_195@reddit
Yeah, I loved He-man too, and I had 47 figures, Eternia, Fright Zone, Snake Mountain and Grayskull. I d spend most of my Saturdays on the screen in room playing.
That said, I don’t have any children to take, and w/o kids, it’s not really the type of movie that I need to see on the big screen and usually watch more realistic movies. So, I ll wait until it comes out on streaming.
Tangboy50000@reddit
Have you seen the crazy snack tie ins from the concession stand? They have the sword that they fill with soda and then you drink from the hilt. Then there’s Castle Grayskull. One of the towers is a soda cup. They fill the middle with popcorn. The skull opens on top and they fill it with candy and then the mouth opens and closes to dispense it. There are different movie theater chain exclusives.
Conscious_String_195@reddit
No, but I m certainly going to check it out now. It’s amazing how these tie ins for certain movies get these awesomely designed buckets and holders.
As a fan of the cartoon and seeing the Dolph Lundgren movie, while I like Idris Elba and his movies, I can’t get past them changing the character, Man-At-Arms to a black guy. Then Teela is Latina.
As these are ingrained and established characters, I wish they d be true to the original source material vs changing characters traits to fit this current environment.

DeadManAle@reddit
I’m all set. No thank you.
Specialist-Box4677@reddit
As a huge fan of the first half-dozen mini-minicomics, and never having been exposed to Filmation He-Man as a child, I couldn't care less about this movie. If you're excited for it, have a great time and I hope it's a blast!
TBarzo@reddit
I kinda want to go see it, but I don't want to be complete let down after dropping $75 bucks to take the crew.
Was big in to He-Man for a stretch back in the day.
Jas62021@reddit
I think it’s gonna be one of the “wait til it’s streaming” movies
HoosierLarry@reddit
Nope. I can’t stand that they are using Earth again in anyway.
NegScenePts@reddit
THIS. Eternia and Earth were NEVER connected in the show, and no amount of retconning will change that fact. I REFUSE to see any He-Man movie that uses Earth in any way. The new animated series was good, so I'm gonna Highlander 2 this new live-action and pretend it doesn't exist.
LadyNorbert@reddit
Actually, they were. Queen Marlena was from Earth.
NegScenePts@reddit
Well...poo on her! :P lol
hemanoncracks@reddit
I turn 50 the weekend comes out. It was meant to be!
Fussy_Fucker@reddit
My brother
Stidda@reddit
Yeah, I’ll probably d/l it at some point
Waffuru@reddit
I'll watch it when it comes to a streaming service.
xczechr@reddit
Not me, and I was a huge fan of the show and toys back in the day.
suburbanerd@reddit
I had no real intention of seeing this as MOTU wasn’t really my thing. But my teenager wants to see it and I see Alison Brie is playing Evil-Lyn (sp?) so now my interest is piqued.
ONROSREPUS@reddit
I'll pass. I think I would rather have it as an animated movie.
Bloodless-Cut@reddit
Meh.
I'll go see the new Star Wars in the theater, but He-Man, probably not.
I'm not much of a movie-goer, really. Too expensive.
ChrisRiley_42@reddit
I'll wait for it to come out on a streaming platform. I haven't been to a theater in years.
MachineProof5438@reddit
Nope
skronk14@reddit
Jared Leto has only not messed up Flight Club. I'll wait for video for any movie he's in and still probably not watch it.
Snortyclaus@reddit
Agreed, he destroyed the Troy franchise and I have no interest in seeing him destroy anything else
balthisar@reddit
Going? Probably not. I only go to kids' movies because I have kids (I got a late start).
Well, I did go see a film recently in a cinema in K.C. because I was on a business trip alone and had nothing else to do – there's nice, empty AMC close to the airport!
So if I go to Kansas City again and He-Man is playing, then maybe, unless something else I want to see is playing.
Thing is, I never got into He-Man, not the TV show, some old movie other people keep mentioning that exists, or the dolls. The He-Man stuff on Robot Chicken was kind of funny, but other than that, it doesn't mean anything to me.
TemperReformanda@reddit
My kids think we are going because of one of them having a June birthday. And to be sure, we kinda are, but still.
I'm hoping that they keep the amount of time Adam spends on earth short. That's what made the first movie boring and they seem to be doing it again.
003h10102@reddit
I was just wondering what the year cutoff was for this, I was born in 1972 and remember this existing but I had no interest in it.
Mouse-Direct@reddit
I love Nick Galitzine (He-Man) and hate Jared Leto. Very torn.
neanderthalman@reddit
If it helps, I don’t think we can see Leto under seventeen layers of CGI.
StatisticianFun2274@reddit
I was over cartoons by the time He-Man was popular, so I don't have the built-in nostalgia for this one. Hope it's a fun ride for the rest of you. I might catch it streaming...
nootin6@reddit
I loved the cartoon and I still watch it, but the movie looks too fake for me I don’t think I could sit through it!
Fritzo2162@reddit
As opposed to the hyper-realistic cartoon.
Hydroidal@reddit
You mean leave the house and go out in public to a movie theater? Ew, no.
I’ll watch it when I can stream it at home.
PositiveStress8888@reddit
Went to the movies yesterday with my wife, it was great. And since nobody goes it wasn't really that busy. Mind you it was a matinee on a long weekend.
Still it was good.
Baxter616@reddit
Ill wait til it's out on video and then rent it from my local grocery store.
Ecypslednerg@reddit
Only movie in 2026 I’m genuinely excited to see.
Ok_Cicada_3420@reddit
These people and their pronouns. 🙄 JK… I can’t wait to see this in an actual theater!!
newgalactic@reddit
Not me.
DarthVader808@reddit
Stopping by the dispensary on the way to the movie. Not going to watch it with a grownups brain.
postprandialrepose@reddit
That's the spirit! I dig that game plan.
Curious-Basket-7934@reddit
She- ra would be a yes
Ceased2Be@reddit
Duh. I'm going to the cinema for the first possible viewing and enjoy the hell of it.
GaiaIsaHarshMistress@reddit
I am a straight, so I'll have to pass.

Princess_Jade1974@reddit
Might wait till it’s on bluray and enjoy it at home, still deciding.
Ray_The_Engineer@reddit
I was 18 when the cartoon came out, so wasn't interested then. I'm even less interested in spending movie theater ticket money to see the live action movie.
dcamnc4143@reddit
I won't go too see it, but I'll probably watch it streaming at some point
RonGoBongo111@reddit
No one. It looks terrible.
MysticKei@reddit
I saw the first movie....Jared Leto? 😒.... I'll wait for it to stream free, them I probably won't be able to help myself for nostalgia sake 🤭
Positron14@reddit
Yes. Definitely.
BaldBombshell@reddit
I have only seen 1½ films with Jared Leto in it. And I intend to keep it that way.
GoslingIchi@reddit
I have zero interest in seeing it.
But since I've seen the trailer so many times, I'm wondering where on Skeletors jaw/throat does he have flesh.
crs1904@reddit
Played by Jared Leto. 💀😂
larssputnik@reddit
I heard Brian May from Queen was doing the soundtrack and got excited that they might be leaning into the camp aka: Flash Gordon. But it just looks like more slop getting pumped out from the studios. So that’s gonna be a no from me dog
DarkAlex1978@reddit
I'm not interested. He-man Is not the cartoon: there were other He-men before the cartoon. My He-man Is the early one who do not transform and lives in a more barbaric Eternia. This movie just doesn't show a He-man i'm interested to see. Plus I don't support products with race swapped characters which add to my lack of interest.
OtakuTacos@reddit
Me man.
Jensen1994@reddit
The Fabulous Secret Powers Heeeeyyaaa song forever changed He Man....
Historical_Monk_6118@reddit
It's one for the streaming services. The cartoon was kind of basic and the first movie was far from breathtaking. So, beyond the odd catchphrase and Skeletor meme there's not really any nostalgia for me I'm afraid.
Radiant-Avocado-3158@reddit
Of course! It’s a must.
apc961@reddit
Had all the action figures and the castle growing up. I'm probably passing on the movie but the new video game looks pretty cool.
WeirdFiction1@reddit
I probably will. Looks like it might be rough, but could also be pretty fun.
