Modern Sport Coupe (2-Door)
etc.
Think of the:
- Subaruyota BRZ86
- BMW M240i
- BMW M440i
- AMG GT63
Fox Body Sedans (4-Doors)
etc.
- Ford Fairmont (1978-1983)
- Mercury Zephyr (1978-1983)
- Ford LTD (1983-1986)
- Ford Granada (1981-1982)

SUV "coupes"

Who remembers when Nissan thought it was a good idea to offer the Rogue in a 2-door convertible trim?

How are you going to haul the boat to the lake with 6 people + cargo? That's SUV stuff.
CaptainAction@reddit
A van is great for that. The only possible edge the SUV has is extra ground clearance to not dunk it’s ass end into the water when launching a boat.

What can? A minivan? I don't know any of them that can pull 6k pounds with a full cabin.
If you're talking about a big ass van, then why not just buy an SUV?
My point is that an SUV does make sense to a lot of people.
It might only do truck type things 10% of the time .. just like most truck owners ... Either way for most people, having one vehicle that can handle all tasks is the answer
bradpal@reddit
By this reasoning, 90% of the US has boats to haul to lakes.

Well crossover SUVs are fine, they're basically just a tall car. I'm talking about real SUVs...there are plenty of people who have a use case for a wanting a truck but don't actually need the bed... So you buy an SUV

Id like to see the Twilight Zone Monkeys paw on this for what subsequent vehicles you'd want to keep but lose... i.e. delete the Pontiac Aztek but you also lose the c5 corvette because Top Peter's was fired and had to go work for a Velveeta factory.

I don’t know about “deleting them from existence” because a lot of people seem to like them, and I don’t want to yuck someone else’s yum. But the Panther chassis cars were basically the same body-on-frame stuff I grew up with, and I got to drive one in 2010 as a rental, and I thought “oh yeah, this used to be what everything felt like” which was NOT a compliment.
I mean, I GUESS I can see the nostalgia and implied durability and simplicity, because it’s close enough to “almost walking” that you can see “walking” from there and marvel at the fact that you are not walking, you are able to go faster and further than people used to imagine possible in the “feet” days before railroads, where you could run, for a while, or maybe ride on an animal while it ran.
But to drive a Honda accord or prelude in, like, 1980, was to see the future - “can everyday cars be this sensational?” Because soon they were.
(The Fairmont / zephyr twins? Not great cars, I know, but we got a two-door one brand new when I was a teenager and it eventually became my car, and I learned to fix cars on it, and eventually drove it to my first job and to dates with my first wife, and I liked it. It was basically a Fox body mustang with a longer wheelbase, and i could really make something out of one of those today. Something about it I just always liked.)

I agree with your sentiment about not wanting “Cancel” someone else’s joy. I’d just like choices.
You can’t even buy a generic, boring, overpriced, luxury SUV in the color you want anymore “Most people want Red, Black or Silver Luxury SUV sir”.
It’s outta hand.
