Turks in Albania

As an Albanian diaspora (haven't lived in Albania full time since 2006) I've recently seen a trend of turks moving to Albania. Why? Why now? Why Albania?
On the other side how do Albanians living in the country view this vs another group? Or how do they view the whole situation?

Albania is on the rise. Turkey is stagnant/declining. Both of these are in contrast to a couple decades ago. Another big factor is EU countries are hardening their borders.

🤣🤣🤣

I was thinking about that. Especially with Germany restricting their immigration policies

If you are talking about gdp then actually it is growing fairly well same with gdp per capita but i am also aware inflation plays a role.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
Inflation crucial ,gdp per capita does not say much but I see Turkey as more developed as Albania

There are enough Albanians in Turkey, they still speak Albanian language, here look this video:

there really aren't. it's a small percentage among millions who have those origins.
Kooky_Appeal_6554@reddit

Turks are trying to leave Turkey and any country in Europe is good as a gateway to the EU.
Pretend-Marzipan7496@reddit (OP)
Albania isn't part of European union (they're part of Europe as a continent) so they'll still have go through hoops for legal entry to other countries.
Archaeopteryx111@reddit
Turks are moving to Macedonia as well these days.
EpicBOIM8@reddit
sizable muslim population and there were already a minority of Turks to begin with

My family are from Priştina, some are like who’s families are like mine, getting their passports from their families birthplace and become a citizen then move. I haven’t bothered but my cousin is trying to get the passport so she will have easier time getting visa.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
You are Albanian from Turkey?
funstufffff@reddit
My mother’s side yes, fathers side is Cuman/kipchak Turks. There are a lot of Albanian Turks living in Türkiye.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
Yeah I know
funstufffff@reddit
Both grandparents escaped PriÅŸtina in 1930s from Massacres by Serbs.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
That sucks
funstufffff@reddit
Thanks but what can you do about it… would love to visit the country sometime but never had the chance.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
From Istanbul flights are very cheap

I was wondering whether they’re turks or kurds from turkey, because I’ve noticed a similar pattern in north macedonia, montenegro, bulgaria, as well as in the uk and germany. From what I understand, in bulgaria people emigrating are the descendants of the turks who were forcibly expelled. But in n. macedonia and montenegro though, where visa is not required, it seemed to me during my visits that many of the migrants from turkey were kurdish, alongside a few turks with family roots in the region. What I´ve seen is Turkey’s economic difficulties combined with the large influx of blue-collar labor from syria, afghanistan and pakistan have affected kurds disproportionately as economic and political turmoil often tends to hit disadvantaged groups and minorities the hardest.
ChrisRedfield696969@reddit
Escaping turkey and they hope that albania joins the EU soon
Kooky_Appeal_6554@reddit
That may be true for Turks from Turkey. But Balkan Turks living in the Balkan since countries, or diaspora Turks in Germany, certainly aren't emigrating to Albania. Why would they? They have EU passports.
ThickCaterpillar9867@reddit
You see them working mostly as Hairdressers and Icecream sellers but also doing other stuff ,still not as many as Italian migrants ,they are like 10000 Italians living in Albania with all kind of businesses
Archi_Tetak@reddit
Is a country invented by turks, of course they will come back to take it eventually
Substratas@reddit
Pathetic.
Archi_Tetak@reddit
Eh, I know
Ujemegaz@reddit
Many companies are Turkish. Maybe, they brought their families as well.

Albania is a good place to move if you have passive income. Im sure money goes a lot further there and Turks also share the religion and certain cultural aspects with Albanians. Same thing is happening in Bosnia for same reasons basicallyÂ

Slow ottoman revival /sÂ
Beautiful-Walk48@reddit
Ottomans moving in again but more sneaky this time heeheehee
Few-Interview-1996@reddit
It may have something to do with Turkish FDI into Albania.
Substratas@reddit
I think they’re moving to Albania now before it joins the EU (if it ever does) because it’s much easier to get residence permit & citizenship if the country isn’t in the union yet.
