How would school uniforms stop bullying? Clothes aren't the only thing bullies target.

I don't know if this a cultural difference from America, but I was never bullied based on clothing. Plus I genuinely don't know how to tell economic status from clothing unless someone is wearing either rags or visibly expensive clothes. The concept of bullies who only care about clothing is confusing concept for me.

It means those pupils that can't afford new clothes often don't look.different and people not beaten up for wrong brand clothes. Yes it doeen't stop all bullying but it removes one point of distinction. It also means people less able to identify which children have subsidised clothing (devolved nations).

Do British students pay that much attention to clothing trends?
Timely_Egg_6827@reddit
Depends on the child . But some do and if they do, then no point in preformatively wearing in fad brands unless you can say they make you superior to people without them. It doesn't take many people to create a bullying situation at school.

I would say it depends on the parents.

Oh yes, my children go mad for clothing brands like Canada Goose and Under Armour.

I was too in the 80’s.
Because my parents weren’t rich it taught me a lot about money so it wasn’t such a bad thing.

No one's saying they only care about clothing. It's still a point of difference from one student to another which a uniform minimises.

Is racist or ableist bullying common in the UK?

It's funny you write this because it's something I've thought about a lot about my school years. I grew up in absolute poverty. One thing I enjoyed about school, was other than perhaps shoes, everyone was equal in school. I knew people who had wealthy families if I was close friends with them, but otherwise I felt like my conditions at home weren't a factor in my social life, That's something that doesn't even apply to adulthood in a way. I wouldn't say it's about bullying, it's just about everyone being on equal footing at school. Even the richer kids had scuffed up shoes from playing football at lunch too, so there really was no determining factor.

Its not their only concern but its another difference between them and someone else that they can use against their victim. A guy i went to school with was bullied for wearing denim to a non uniform day it went as far as someone throwing a glass bottle at his head.
