Car suggestions?

I currently own a 2018 honda civic sport hatchback 1.5T and it can’t take any hits whatsoever… my town’s roads aren’t even that crappy and the front bumper scrapes all the time. I’ve replaced the front lip because the original one broke and the replacement broke within 2 months !! And the coolant just started leaking because of how low it is i’m guessing.
I don’t feel like putting new springs on it in order to raise it I honestly don’t love it enough to do that, so i’m looking to get either a truck or an SUV, i’m leaning more towards a truck though because i’m going into the electrical field and will be carrying lots of equipment around, and a bed can always come in handy.
I want something reliable (good on gas, don’t break every month, etc), something that moves 👀, and something that I can build up. A V8 is out of the question with these gas prices 😅😅.
I live in a city so not off road focused.
All suggestions are much appreciated, thanks !!

If you want a newer truck without any turbo or hybrid I'd suggest getting the Nissan frontier.
Comes in both crew cab (4 doors) and extended (2 doors) if you want a pure work truck.
A frontier won't hold its value as well as the Tacoma but you can get a used frontier at a lower price with the near reliability of a Tacoma.

If you know about maverick turbo can you compare it to the v6 tacoma reliability wise? A turbo never hurts nobody lol 🏎️

It’s not really a “cool” turbo. The reason manufacturers are pushing toward turbo 4s has more to do with engineering efficiency and emissions standards than it does any sort of racecar ideas.
Basically there are real tradeoffs to using a turbo - namely you need stronger metals to withstand the higher compression ratios. It also adds a complexity factor.
I think that based on what I’ve seen from you op, you should slow down and just get the front of your current hatchback lifted. It is going to be much cheaper than any sort of new vehicle for you, and once you start generating a steady income, getting a little bit older, and getting rid of debt (if you have any), then maybe it’s time to look at a change in vehicle.
I drove a used 2001 civic from 21-36. You really don’t want to overextend yourself financially especially when you are young. Get your feet on the ground first and come back to this in a few years, in my opinion.

Yeah you’re right not going to lie, this car has just been a pain in the ass.
I’ll do what you said and hope the maverick market dies down by then.
Thanks a lot, much love.

Almost all ecoboost engine are garbage except the 3.5.

If its a truck without a v8 dont go bigger than a tacoma and only take a v6 not smaller or it will be unreliable. As such i would recommend a tacoma or ranger, with a 3.4, 3.5 or 4.0 depending on what years. Tacoma from 1996 to 2015 where bulletproof, and if you want to go with a suv the 4runner is the same car but suv ( same engine transmission and suspension but with more cab space and a cool back window, the trunk is still the size of a truck bed ). As for ranger i dont know them that much but i know that the v6 where good and that the mazda b-series where the exact same truck but cheaper because mazda. You will only want to get a 4x4 truck, 2x4 suck in winter for truck since there is absolutly no weight in the back. A truck or suv will never be great on gas but i know that the 1999 4runner with the 3.4 v6 was fairly decent since thats what i have ( it also has 381k km and a 4 speed automatic so there is that ). I know that the engine is somewhat buildable ( they made a trd supercharger for it ) and can take a turbo very well with minimal modification since its very ovebuild but dont expect race car level of boost, its still a truck engine. You can go to 10 psi safely or up to 12 if you push it.

Or, just get a maverick because that’s 99 percent of the truck that a majority of people need.
You are obviously really knowledgeable about this stuff and that’s super cool, especially if you are actually hauling meaningful tonnage.
People act like the body on frame and maximum torque matter, but the vast majority of American consumers looking for a truck are looking for a vehicle that has the shape of a truck, and they are looking to have a bed that is separated from the main cabin so that they can put dirty and awkward stuff in the back without messing up the interior.
This is why the maverick is so popular. It’s about the shape and the spatial utility and the ford logo for most car owners.

I like body on frame because insurance will scrap the maverick if it get a bump on the bed. I dont like unibody for that reason, they are reparable without much difficulty but no insurance company will do it because of the price. Otherwise the mazda and the maverick are similar in term of size ( or a little bit smaller ) , i guess the engine is slightly bigger, i think the maverick is a 4 cyl ( scratch that its the ecoboost engine, that engine is shit dont buy that, the only ecoboost that was not garbage was the 3.5 ), you can also get the b-2000 wich is also a 4 cylinder just not 4x4. I guess the ridgeline could also be a option, but i know basicly nothing about them.

This guy is spot on lol, looking to move downtown in my city when I move out so fits my needs perfectly.

Hybrid Maverick?
Pair-Federal@reddit (OP)
Also no hybrids please! Makes it dangerous for me to work on it.

…Turbo maverick?
Pair-Federal@reddit (OP)
Holy crap, this truck is perfect ! Almost too good to be true haha, ima do some more research on it.
SadEfficiency6354@reddit
Yeah. As a side note, what i was getting at is the following:
You are talking about going into electricity, and if you are doing this as a career, the battery on a hybrid shouldn’t scare you
You say you “want to work on it,” but you also seem to be unable to measure the clearance on your car and fix that clearance, which would be much more affordable than getting a new car.
I would just think really carefully about what you actually want here.
Pair-Federal@reddit (OP)
I’m going to be a residential electrician not a mechanic, no regular electrician should be anywhere near a hybrid engine and I hope the ones in the back heard that, can cause real harsh accidents.
Like I said in the post fixing the clearance is a valid option, but I just don’t love the civic enough to fix that and it would look ugly lifted.
The Maverick looks real nice right now, there’s a bunch of non hybrid. The XL, XLT, FX4 off road package (I don’t get this whole package thing lol), Lariat, and the Tremor. I have no idea which one to pick lol i’m doing research on em, let me know if I missed any.

If you want a vehicle that satisfies your need for rapid acceleration but keeps your fuel bills microscopic, this plug-in hybrid is a beast, Lynk & Co 08 EM-P.

If you ultimately decide a full pickup truck bed is too much of a hassle for your city parking layout but you still want to fix your clearance issues, look at Lynk & Co's crossover lineup.

Did you buy the civic used? That is incredibly odd, i drive a volvo s60L (5.4mm clearance... much less than a standard civic sport) and the front is lower than the back but never scraped or anything so i wonder if it was lowered or had some suspension modifications?
Pair-Federal@reddit (OP)
Yeah I bought it used probably lowered without me knowing or sum
ProtossFox@reddit
Might i suggest a wagon then or a lifted wagon like some subarus/volvos. Same clearance or more if lifted assuming the guy before ya didnt lower it xD
