iPad 13” Pivot Case In Cockpit

Anyone use a 13” iPad in the cockpit in a GA aircraft on a pivot case with mount? Is it in the way? Too large? I have a 13” iPad already for home use. I don’t want to buy a whole new iPad just to use in the airplane. Wondering if the pivot case is usable with that size.

I have a 10" iPad and I feel like that is monstrous in a 172. I couldn't imagine running a 13".

I have an 11” iPad Pro which is great as something I keep in the pocket or on the seat beside me as a map / easy to use reference. I love the size because everything is easier to see/read/use while in the plane.
But I’ve already decided that I’ll probably buy a mini to mount as I get a bit more adventurous in my flying and want something that’s easier for me to check regularly.

The Mini fits nicely between the yoke on an Archer, and is the only place it will fit without obscuring the view.
If you can hold out to the Fall, supposedly the new Mini will have an OLED screen, which should improve visibility in sunlight.

I already think my mini is way to bulky

No way. You’re not poor or you wouldn’t be in an airplane. Get the iPad mini.
Before anyone starts with me, it is literally a few hours of flight time to have the iPad that fits properly. The 13” is an ergonomic nightmare in GA.

Absolutely the fuck not. A mini already feels like the maximum size in anything except a Cirrus.

As a Cirrus owner I agree, 11” iPad feels borderline too big

Here is what you can do to answer this for yourself.
Get some cardboard (an old Amazon box?) and cut to same dimensions as the iPad in the pivot case.
Sit in your airplane and using the cardboard template, see where you can place it.
You want to find somewhere that does not block instruments, does not prevent flight control movement, and does not require you to be full head down to use it.
Also consider the weight of that big iPad. If you are going to suction cup it somewhere, you may want or need the piece that has a second suction cup.

I'd venture that 13" iPads are too big for GA. I have an Air 5, so the 10.9" on a pivot and depending on where I mount it (prefer the yoke mount, but not viable on all GA based on control set up) it can be in the way.

For GA aircraft a pivot case and mount is super overkill. Just let it sit on your knee, and reference when necessary.
But yeah mounting a larger iPad in a traditional 172 or similar is gonna be a pain
