Nice that California is getting a check, makes everyone affected feel SOOO much better
NeverEverMaybe0_0@reddit
How much of that do I, a GM customer, get?
sicklyslick@reddit
So much for Chinese spyibg EVs lol
JillierHaroldLamaar@reddit
Chinese shills aren't even trying to hide it anymore.
sicklyslick@reddit
nope because it has become obvious that "china bad" rhetorics are just made up because we do exactly the same thing.
IceColdCorundum@reddit
China is just a diversion tactic.
"Look at THEM over THERE STEALING from you and SPYING on you!"
steals from you and spies on you while your back is turned...
SharkBaitDLS@reddit
Should be $12.5B.
anonymous-shmuck@reddit
Should go to the people who’s privacy was violated, not the government
IceColdCorundum@reddit
Don't worry, you can get your 1 cent from the class action lawsuit.
nyanslider@reddit
Sold it for way more, worth it.
gumol@reddit
half_regard@reddit
lmao
kstetter@reddit
The fine should be double what they made, not a random amount
FSCK_Fascists@reddit
BINGO
Violations like this should be total revenue (not profit) from the act, plus a set % fine. The people that ordered it to happen need to be charged and tried under the law for their blatant and knowingly criminal acts.
phxees@reddit
It is good that they have to stop selling data for 5 years. That’s a bigger penalty than what they have to pay.
Of course GM will interpret that penalty to mean stop selling verifiably California resident data. Although GM will just make the data not California resident data by removing the state and zip code from the addresses.
Easy-End-2852@reddit
Call me crazy but I think it should be jail time for the leadership that approved it. Break the law do the time. A fine is abstract and doesn’t sufficiently motivate the corporate leaders to follow the law. Real people were harmed in this and it was done intentionally.
fcwolfey@reddit
Cost of doing business, yay unregulated capitalism!
nyanslider@reddit
Is it really capitalism if you can't use capital to reduce or remove restrictions to create more capital?
Waste-Following9594@reddit
That data stuff is the part that always gets buried until people make noise about it.
NathanScott94@reddit
Oh good California gets the money, not the people who were exploited.
rogie513@reddit
I bet they made billions on it haha. There are no laws about this kind if stuff in reality.
DaRiddler70@reddit
And California will blow the money in 2.7s.
Andrewonice@reddit
GM buys drivers data for $12.75M
Available_Quote_5567@reddit
Then sells it for much more
FSCK_Fascists@reddit
notice how whenever our rights are violated, its always others who get "made whole" in the lawsuit?
SkellyJelly33@reddit
Slap on the wrist
Hrmerder@reddit
So...... What do the actual DRIVERS get?
wild_cat5@reddit
That’s it?
generalistinterests@reddit
Aka a house in Beverly Hills.
IsaacM42@reddit
Say what you will about california but you get more consumer protections than any other state (which isnt saying much)
savageotter@reddit
Now what about the other companies that did it?
Quick_Coyote_7649@reddit
Stellnatis ànd GM are competing to see who can do the most tom foolery
V8-Turbo-Hybrid@reddit

Huge_World4801@reddit
