I need advice - NCIS background

I need any possible advice here.
Form 1 filed - denied for background check delayed/denied.
Never failed a background check before for purchases and concealed carry, or for government contracting work.
I provided my fingerprints, SSN, everything.
FBI admits, it's a person with similar name, but the record has no pictures, fingerprints, drivers license, no information. So it's just my common name.
So I get the very limited information from a state I haven't lived in about a domestic abuse case with a victim I don't know.
How do I prove I am not the same person when the NCIS can't even prove who the person was to begin with? Do I hire a lawyer from here? Who do I even hire? The company I worked for during the date of the crime no longer exists, so providing my time sheets or cctv isn't possible.

I appreciate the response, but until I clear this challenge, I can not proceed with a UPIN.

The UPIN should be what you need.
You most likely got delayed and the Brady act doesn't apply to NFA, so it came back as returned without action.
If you got denied, then it would be where you'd have to appeal the denial.
Your other background checks would have been delayed after the NICS check, or flagged for further research, but then the FBI looks into it, realizes it's not applicable to you, and approves after a few days. They don't do that procedure for NFA.
Getting a UPIN will take a little while, but should fix that. Or at least will show more info on what you have to clear up.

NICS false-positive on a common name needs a VAF filing, not a lawyer from the arresting state. Twibell Pierson Criminal Law runs those federally.

Leave the squid cops out of this. Looks like you'll have to resubmit your form 1 and get a UPIN so you're not mistaken for the other asshole.

Same thing happened to me. I was able to purchase guns but my form 4 suppressor got delayed for almost a year. Turned out I had a 20 year old court case that never got fully cleared. It was thrown out, but the fbi showed it as no resolution and it was disqualifying so until I got it cleared I could pass the ncis check.
