Studying for private pilot written, what is the best tool to use between Gleim, Sporty, and King?

None of the above. Sheppard air or bust.

Sheppard doesn’t teach you much, if anything. Please don’t encourage that as the primary material for civilian pilots. That might work for you at 750 hours to get your ATP, but that’s not how private through CFI candidates need to study.

I used Sportys for my PPL personally, but by the time I got through the military flying I felt like Sheppards courses served their purpose.

Don’t get me wrong, I use them to pass my written tests. But it’s insufficient as course material for a full rating, both as it pertains to passing a checkride and being safe and competent as a pilot. It’s no substitute for ground school.
It’s basically test gouge. Really good test gouge, but gouge nonetheless.

Sheppard air doesn't do private.

I thought they had a study guide of some kind. I’ll be honest I didn’t know, I just assumed. I used them for my mil comp and ATP.

i saw MIL and figured you were doing it a bit different over there, no worries. They don't do private, but do everything else.

These guides are not a replacement, but may be of help…

Jeppesen PPL textbook (much better than PHAK) and Sporty’s videos.
But you should also be speaking with your instructor to purchase what they recommend so they can provide guidance and support if your efforts.
. .
If you are trying to purchase something and get to knowledge exam readiness before doing any flight lessons, I don’t advise that.
So much of this learning works better when you have the flight experience and context to what you’re learning from the textbooks and videos. Because of the experiences and context, you learn the material deeper and are able to recall the details more accurately.

Almost no one has used all 3 and can tell you which one is better. Because 99% of the people using one of them will pass. Sportys worked for me along with extra practice tests from ASA software
