I'm looking forward to picking up a used lucid for peanuts shortly after the impending bankruptcy š
caliwillbemine@reddit (OP)
Hell yeah. We might add a gravity in a couple years if the wheels fall off at the company.
the_fools_brood@reddit
I am waiting on the rivian r2, and the line it is introducing. Other variants of it. As is, I would have 1 today if I could. But in 2 years, I will absolutely have 1.
caliwillbemine@reddit (OP)
R2, iX3, i3, electric CLA, and all the next gen EVs actually seem pretty great (even if we arenāt getting the Chinese EVs).
Also current model 3 and Y are great vehicles and Tesla operates on its own way of constant iteration.
the_fools_brood@reddit
I wish the BYDs were here. They crush anything currently available in u.s.

Iām surprised you find it to be a connected driving experience. Maybe theyāve improved it since the early Air GT that I test-drove, but I found it to be way less communicative than the Taycan 4S that I test drove as a comparison point. It felt much more like it was an M5 competitor that wanted to be fast but still plush rather than prioritizing road feel.Ā
fanboy190@reddit
The Lucid was compared by some to the E39 M5, I do genuinely wonder what went wrong with your test drive! Admittedly, the Taycan is also great at this, but I would think that a car compared to the E39 by Jason Cammisa would be extremely communicative.
caliwillbemine@reddit (OP)
Well, it IS heavy af. And itās possible the test drive was on the 19s rather than 20s or 21s. Iād imagine it makes a big difference.
caliwillbemine@reddit (OP)
Well Iām coming from an m240i. And I feel steering is better connected than I previously had.
Didnāt really even test drive a taycan because admittedly I was prioritizing practicality more. Everything Iāve seen says Taycan is a much more connected and enjoyable drive, but I wasnāt willing to even test drive it because used pricing is currently higher for equivalent features (common Porsche) even though the Taycan has depreciated like crazy.
Taycan GTS would be the lowest I would want to go for decent equipment and performance, and at that level weāre at $30k more than a fully loaded Air GT with fewer miles.

Worst car Iāve ever had and they are an awful company to deal with. The cars are constant problems and they lie about range.Ā
Iāve had 4 EVs and Lucid absolutely BSās the range. They show āEPAā range which isnāt even close to real. Their service is a joke and the cars are poorly built.Ā
Handles great tho.Ā
caliwillbemine@reddit (OP)
I know youāve had issues with yours but every experience is anecdotal. Fingers crossed your lemon actually gets lemoned out.
ikilledtupac@reddit
Youāll see.Ā
caliwillbemine@reddit (OP)
Probably!
caliwillbemine@reddit (OP)
Didnāt bring it up in the main post, but I also cross shopped:
-BMW iX (didnāt do i4/others because wanted a ground-up EV)
-Taycan (only really looked at pricing but decided rear seat and cargo space was a no go)
-polestar 2 not practical enough and polestar 3 didnāt really have time to depreciate yet
-Mercedes EQS sedan. Again WILD depreciation but wanted more range.
Torczyner@reddit
Shocked you didn't look at a Palladium Model S. Best software, speed, usability, range, network vector IMO. I looked hard at Taycan but no rear hatchback killed it and I love my 911.
caliwillbemine@reddit (OP)
Supercharger network is increasingly open to other brands and the air beats every model S on range. Other networks are also starting to get built out with excellent specs using the Alpitronic hyperchargers (ionna, Walmart, others).
The Model S is no doubt also a great value. Under braked in comparison for the power on offer, but I drive like an old fart most of the time anyway so the 6 piston big boys on the air are probably a waste for me haha. Just didnāt really want a Tesla.
Torczyner@reddit
You're aware 400 miles of rage on the MS is greater than the 380 your Air has right? The giant lead in software is why I stay with Tesla for daily EVs. Plus you mentioned driving like an old fart, my Tesla drives for me about half the time now.
Just surprised you didn't cross shop it.
caliwillbemine@reddit (OP)
380 is at 80% charge. And thatās with 20ā wheels on summers. If I swap to OEM 19ās I can get 450+.
ASK_ABT_MY_USERNAME@reddit
I ended up with the iX but it was really close between it and a Lucid. Ultimately felt all potential issues were too much of an issue.
Carfr33k@reddit
Who knows if that will be around in a year. They are bleeding cash. Their next cats is coming from Saudi Arabia. Uh ok. They can't handle their supply chain issues here. Good luck with that. They won't see 2028. Saudis will pull the plug, just like LIV, and SABIC.
mustangfan12@reddit
Having a key fob not working is unacceptable on such an expensive car or any car. I'm also surprised they don't even have a good heating or AC system
caliwillbemine@reddit (OP)
Heating is an issue on lots of EVs without heat pumps and I knew that coming in. Didnāt want to spend $10k more since PNW is pretty temperate. AC is adequate, just requires manual control if itās super sunny.
The key fob thing was a dealer thing, not a Lucid thing. I bought it from a normal dealerās used lot. The fobs provided to me were for an entirely different vehicle! Lucid sorted it out for me for free though, so thereās that at least.
opstarfish@reddit
Did you ever look at the Taycan Cross? I know itās a wagon, but Iām not sure how much space there actually is.Ā
caliwillbemine@reddit (OP)
Crossturismo is like a 15-16 cuft trunk. Lucid is 22 cuft trunk. Taycanās is more usable though because the lucid trunk is kinda short and just weird dimensionally. The airās frunk is what makes it so usable when I have to have room for stroller plus kid stuff to make family travel comfortable.

I love this shit. Thanks for posting!

"driver engagement" is a stretch
This thing drives like a competent, comfortable luxury sedan. Not a boat, but not particularly begging to be thrown into corners either. It drives as a vehicle in its segment should
caliwillbemine@reddit (OP)
Completely fair. A CT5-V Blackwing it is not. But with every big German luxury sedan going hybrid now thereās the weight penalty of having an EV without the benefits. New M5 weighs more than the Lucid and same goes for the RS6.
I think it sits comfortably as a competent executive sports sedan, but if you want to swap that to sportY sedan I fully understand that.
