Travel Recomendations

I'm going on a road trip, starting in Houston and passing through Dallas at the end of June - start of July, with my family of 6 (2 grandparents, 2 parents and 2 teens).
What are some free activities we could do? Any museums, hikes, concerts ect...
I'm from South America, so even visiting a garage sale is a nice activitie to do.
What resturants do you recomend? We have a tight budget, most of it going toward gas and hotels.
Can you give some recomendations for the trip? It will be a month and a half long, finishing in Chicago.

If your travel dates are 7/2- 7/5, I would skip Dallas and go to Canton, TX for the First Monday Flea Market. It is the largest flea market in the World according to their website. We pay $5-$10 to park, but we can spend the entire day exploring. If you like garage sales, this place will blow your mind. https://www.firstmondaycanton.com/
With the World Cup in town and the Fourth of July holiday, the traffic and prices will be worse than normal. If Dallas is a must see, Klyde Warren park is free. It is a public park with many different activities, food trucks, and great city views.
