Sun Country Q’s

What’s reserve life like? I understand no airport standby but I’ve read 2 hour call out is not the best
Is Sun Country commutable once you have a line?
Junior base?
Upgrade times?
Any immediate changes with Allegiant?

Just answered a bunch of these a couple months ago, but I will again.
Reserve life sucks. You will make min guarantee and work the worst trips here (and the bad trips are truly terrible). No ability to pick up and very minimal ability to make any changes to your schedule.
Is it commutable? Kind of? The commutable trips are more trips that start or end with deadheads as we have a deadhead deviation program that lets you turn those deadheads into essentially a positive space commute from where you live. Not going to help you on reserve though.
At the moment you get your choice of MSP or CVG as a new hire. CVG is more junior. Soon that choice will expand to AFW. Have fun commuting to that one.
Upgrade times are instant for CVG, 3+ years for MSP at the moment. Will probably be upgrade at will for AFW when it opens too.
No immediate changes with Allegiant. I’m sure that stuff will start to trickle by the end of the year. All of our 401ks just immediately vested if you weren’t already but not sure it would affect you.

What are the truly terrible trips like?
JasonThree@reddit
Imagine the worst ACMI circadian flip flop trips but its domestic in a 737. Oh and you report at 6am day 1 and release at midnight day 5. Or if you loved old school regional flying, it's 4-5 legs a day doing casino charters.
Once you can get senior enough to not have to do either of these, life here gets reaaaal good. I do AM turns or easy 1-2 leg 3 day trips each month. Probably need to be 60-70% seniority to hold anything good. MSP speaking of course.

I’m going to take a bet on an out and back to the west coast with a red eye return leg to MSP.
rayman3325@reddit
lol no. 5-6 day trip with redeye, AM, PM flips. Fatigue calls as far as the eyes can see. But fuck it, not my problem if I call out fatigued.
flyingwithfish24@reddit
Jesus fuck that sounds like shit lol. Y’all hiring haha?
rayman3325@reddit
Absolutely probably close to a couple hundred this year. Gotta keep up with attrition that is picking up with the Allegiant buyout…
flyingwithfish24@reddit
Good luck! Get that premium pay and a white monster for the road
GopherState@reddit
Lol, that’s the easy red eye stuff. Our multi day Amazon schedules are so much worse.
GopherState@reddit
Working the entire 24 hour clock over a 4 day trip. With different report times every time you clock in. Multiple clock flips. Or ridiculous red eye asks. Just a lot of disgusting back side of the clock flying in general.
FYI a lot of the worst flying in the system is getting shunted to these new junior Amazon bases as well.

When you say upgrade times are instant, just how instant are we talking about?
I live 2 miles from KAFW and start class in time to bid for it in July...
GopherState@reddit
Contractually, have to be here for a year. So that’s as “instant” as it gets. The base isn’t officially open at AFW yet. Supposed to be opening in October.

There’s nothing immediate going on with Allegiant. Both companies are still operating independently. Expect both carriers to be operating under one carrier certificate finally though probably by second half or late next year. At that point quality of life will be determined by what kind of joint collective bargaining agreement gets passed.
Nyaos@reddit
Is there any insight on what this collective CBA might look like? Last I heard Allegiant had a pretty poor contract, wasn’t sure if that has changed in the last few years though. Is the guess that it’ll possibly end up somewhere in between the two?
Hope it works out for the Sun Country folks though.
GopherState@reddit
No one at sun country would vote yes on anything less than what we have. And the G4 guys talk a big game about wanting better than SC as well. So we probably end up with a sun country book+ if we can keep the unity.
Adonde_Cuh@reddit
The other commenter about allegiant is spot on. It’ll be a minute til any changes occur.
