Did we all pata pata at recess in elementary school or just me?

Our teachers taught us the dance and we did it all the time. Even at camp. This is L.A. in the 1970s. I can hear the song in my head and still dance the routine.
And while we're on the subject, how did a South African song become *the* thing in SoCal elementary schools?

Based on the reactions I'm guessing this only happened at your school. 😄

My sisters danced to this song in elementary school (southeast Los Angeles county). They thought it was extra funny because "pata" is the Spanish word for an animal's foot.

Never heard of this, what is it?

Wait...was it the Topo Gigio version of "Pata Pata"?

Lol, no. It was Miriam Makeba. It's a slamming song. You can watch people do the dance on line.
