What’s the proper way to quit like right this moment

I’ve officially hit my year experience already have a local job lined up. But I just don’t know what exactly to say lol this is so weird to me. Im on sometime right now told them I would head back out tomorrow. Should I just message dispatch hey I quit where do I need to bring this truck? Or should I call ?

Don't overthink it. The company side of this industry sees over a 90% turnover. It's more normal to quit than it is to stay. They're more than accustomed to it. Always do what is best for your career, and don't let these guys bully you into anything ridiculous. Call and tell them you found something local, so they know they can't talk you out of it, and they'll let you know what needs to be done.

I gave a two week notice, but my first job I was out 4 to 5 days at a time. End of the day, it's business. As others said, dropping off the truck and leaving it in good shape, with documentation is the way to go. They might not like it, but they understand, it wouldn't be the first time a driver leaves after a run
Deep_Command1133@reddit
Most trucking companies want 2yr experience. To get hired. You made it one yr and the pay worked. Do what you need to get with a better company. Unless you plan to drive for a local company for less pay
Deep_Command1133@reddit
Anyone can give you advice from the outside looking in. But your on the inside. Only you can make your path forward.
Deep_Command1133@reddit
As your employer what the time frame is to leave the job. Just in case you ever need to go back for whatever reason. Unless you dislike the job so bad you would never return. In that case. Have a job to start the day after you leave. Or have family ready to pay your bills to cover the gap between checks
Sharp_Requirement_50@reddit
Drop the trailer in the middle of the interstate, park the truck somewhere else and uber home.
Bamfurlough@reddit
Barricade the doors to your terminal and firebomb it. If anyone is outside the building hire John Wick to off them. No one must find out that you are quitting your job.
I'm kidding, just let your manager/dispatcher know. Be cordial and professional.
1Stack_Mack@reddit
Drive until you're out of fuel, leave a massive duece under the floor mat, lock the keys inside and then tell them you're leaving
mr-doctor2u@reddit
That cracked me up. Classic.
Frankie42083@reddit
Lol only we wish.
Redsit111@reddit
Take truck to terminal, company yard, whatever. Clean out like moving out of an apartment. Document everything. Turn in keys. Depart.
ElectronicGarden5536@reddit
This is what i used to do. Dont forget to forward the pics to dispatch and yourself!
Bergamoted@reddit
I sent a whole video😂😂😂
ElectronicGarden5536@reddit
Yup. CC HR too. Never hurts.
flexedgonder@reddit
Adding for emphsis, documenting everything includes photos or videos of the inside and outside of the truck
LonleyWolf420@reddit
Specifically that show the truck is also IN the yard.. I did an interior video and then a 360 of the truck emphasizing the yard as the surroundings and the video ends zooming into the company building right up to the address on the door
oDANGASMo@reddit
This is the way

Put Johnny Paycheck on your Bluetooth singing Take This Job and Shove It, turn it up as loud as it goes, and drive very slow past the office. The will get the picture.
Professional_Ad7708@reddit
Walker Wheeler Jr. - F this job. It's next level.
FutureCorpse699@reddit
The last OTR company I quit, I brought the truck to them when my home time was up. No two weeks notice. Just drove the truck 400 miles from my house to their terminal on Monday.. “hey here’s the keys”.
HumanVsWorld@reddit (OP)
I would have done that to but I’m 800 some miles away from the terminal
Rare_Indication_3811@reddit
Keep in mind its all business. You dont owe anyone explanation and if there would be other way around nobody would give you any grace period to
make you feel better. Be polite, but mo way apologetic. Good luck :-)
Turbulent_Journey@reddit
Ive got a come up thanks for the help
CuriosTiger@reddit
Send an email or text. "I have a new job lined up. It's local and will get me more home time. Please consider this my two-week notice." Once you've sent it, follow up with a phone call.
That's assuming you're on good terms with the company. If you're not on good terms, then yeah, just clean out the truck, bring it to the nearest terminal and turn in the keys.
Personally, I don't like burning bridges, but it appears both employers and employees care less about that these days.
an-abnormality@reddit
Leave it on a cliffside near I-70 in Utah, say nothing, leave the keys in there and let Jesus take the wheel
Wazzymustard@reddit
Let Moroni take the wheel
Gilgamesh2000000@reddit
You really have to make a post of how to say “no”
What is going on with our society that they have us by the balls like this?
pingus3233@reddit
The consequences for truck abandonment are dire, pretty much career suicide. Asking how to quit a trucking job is reasonable.
Gilgamesh2000000@reddit
Does abandoning a truck follow you around like being on the registered sex offender list?
pingus3233@reddit
Yes. 100%. You become almost unemployable as a driver.
Gilgamesh2000000@reddit
That’s wild
HumanVsWorld@reddit (OP)
Just want to leave on a good note it’s already last notice
Longway23544@reddit
Clean out truck and park it at their yard then message them and tell them you quit if you don’t feel
Comfortable talking to them or if you think they’ll try to convince you to stay
HumanVsWorld@reddit (OP)
Well the yard is like 700 miles away
Longway23544@reddit
Damn you might have to catch a flight
HumanVsWorld@reddit (OP)
That’s the worst part 🤦🏾♂️
HowlingWolven@reddit
if you’re on good standing with your boss, it’s polite to give notice. if you’re not and you’re receiving your mail in an at-will state, clean out the cab, get it detailed, document it, and drop it at the nearest terminal.
MuphDiesel@reddit
Hope you lose your local job
trucker96961@reddit
?? Why?
HumanVsWorld@reddit (OP)
Appreciate you
AutumnBrooks2021@reddit
Man up and talk to them like an adult on the phone. It’s not that difficult. Tell them you found another job and you’re turning the truck in and need to know where they want you to take it.
Whitehoneybun666@reddit
I would take the truck to the home terminal or whatever closer to u clean it out then tell dispatch u quit
Unique-Ad-2544@reddit
Just call them and tell them thanks but I quit I found a better job. I made the mistake of putting my two weeks in at Schneider and only made it a week before I quit cause they started acting weird and to top it off my last paycheck came in short. I will never give any company 2 weeks ever again
Auquaholic@reddit
You call. Hey, I hate to do this, but an opportunity came up for a local job and they said I have to go now or it'll be a very long time before I get the opportunity again. Which terminal should I bring it to?
HumanVsWorld@reddit (OP)
Literally finna copy and paste this
Auquaholic@reddit
Be sure to clean it really well. Then take photos inside and out, at their yard.
PhoenixSmasher@reddit
Correct. Document everything. CYA at all times.
Ok-Combination7287@reddit
Maybe I'm old, but two weeks notice is a thing.
Honestly when I was hiring people, If they didn't say they wanted to give 2 weeks notice to their old job, I would reconsider hiring them at all.
It's also best to not burn bridges in life. Life is long, and humans are very bad at predicting the future.
Snookfilet@reddit
I do still agree with you but it’s also a fact that these companies have proven over the last 2-3 decades that they don’t give a single fuck about us. There used to be some mutual loyalty and so you would want to give a company who treated you right a chance to find a replacement or make arrangements.
Like I say, I still try to practice that for my own conscience and work ethic but no longer feel like I owe most of these companies anything.
Sad_Conversation9857@reddit
its always best to give some notice. you never know when those connections can come back to haunt you or help you. Most companies don't care how you leave but some do. always better to ask what their preferred actions are. but get it in writing so they can't say you abandoned the truck.
