I saw a video once where someone snapped an airsoft AR-type lower onto a 556 upper. Snapped right in.
Now, by their logic, we should also ban pipes because they can easily be made into zip guns.
Gr8-Lks@reddit
Don’t give them any ideas…
Calloutfakeops@reddit
So basically “well you could modify it into something illegal”… Such bullshit. By their logic a Honda Civic is just a little garage work and some fertilizer away from being a VBIED.
hitemlow@reddit
Any AR-15 is a coat hanger DIAS away from being a "machine gun".

You seen the flair. Ain't never left ;)

But I miss you

Oh, you know, just printing some things and turning simple upgrades into an entirely different rifle...

How could a BB gun be one dremmel away from a real gun?Â
Ababoonwithaspergers@reddit
Gas blowback rifles (which are what's getting seized) function kinda like real guns. They use gas to propell the bbs and operate a recoil system. The lowers are, on paper, very similar to real ones and are capable of going full auto so the ATF is losing their shit about them. The part that the feds are conveniently ignoring is that these guns are not in any way built to withstand the forces of shooting real bullets and they're exaggerating the ease of modifying one to fit a real rifle.
danath34@reddit
To play devils advocate, even if it blows up after a handful of rounds, or even on the first round, it's still successfully fired a round and fulfilled the function of a firearm. Don't get me wrong, i don't think these restrictions should even exist, but it's valid under the law as written.
sintaur@reddit
Everybody remember Joseph Roh? His defense attorney pointed out that AR-15 lowers don't meet the definition of a receiver. Â Feds dropped their case rather than FAFO:

Shit like this makes me want to try to actually modify an airsoft rifle to be an actual assault rifle. If I’m gonna catch a felony, might as well get my moneys worth out of it.
fuppedduck2@reddit (OP)
Ironically I don’t think that’s a crime unless it’s full auto
PM_ME_GLUTE_SPREAD@reddit
If im gonna do it i may as well commit. Slap a can, 12” barrel, vertical foregrip, a shoulder stock and make it go brrr, but quietly.

ecodick@reddit
As dumb as this is, can I then go the other way if they're that close? Can I take one of my real lowers and just buy an airsoft upper?
Since they're claiming it's so similar and all...
slav_superstar@reddit
would probably be easier to get a real lower and airsoft upper to work together than an airsoft lower and real upper (it would probably self terminate because premium quality chinese potmetal)
digitalwankster@reddit
Lowers don’t have to withstand much force which is why they make polymer ones and they’re 3D printable
slav_superstar@reddit
True. But chinese pot metal with air bubblesTM is built differently
762_54r@reddit
A 1:1 replica but you gotta modify it a bit to match c'mon now this shit GAY
