Currently driving a stock GX460. my wife and I are looking into a Baja peninsula trip down the stretch of the coast. Wondering how much, if any, of a build out I would need so my GX isn’t beat to shit by the end of the trip. Don’t want to go all out on a build if it’s not necessary, but I also know from experience that some roads down there can be less than forgiving

It really depends on what you plan on doing. The terrain in Baja is incredibly varied. You can stick to pavement and have a blast. You’ll see people with giant fifth wheels and class a motorhomes that drive the length of the peninsula and back. If you plan to drive on the beaches or in desert washes, you’ll encounter deep sand. In the mountains you’ll find steep, rocky tracks and washouts. All that said, a stock GX with good AT tires will get you everywhere with some patience and skill. Just take some traction boards and a compressor so you can air down for the deep sand and washboard. It’s an amazing place, have fun!

Long travel everything

A stock Gx with proper tires will do baja. Everything else is extra comfort. I have 33's, no lift, rock sliders and we go everywhere.

This is so vague. Are you staying on the highway or doing the 50 mile donkey trails to nowhere or all beach or heavy rock crawling or pretending to be a baja 1000 racer

Carry an air compressor, shovel, shade and be sure to always have gallons of extra water/food in case you’re stuck somewhere for a while.

Your car is totally fine stock. All you need is to refresh all your fluids, make sure you have real AT tires, possibly carry fuel and maybe invest in some skid plates. Check out “GX460 OFF-ROAD” on YouTube. That guy romps his gx down very difficult shit stock. You won’t be doing anything like that with your wife. I’d really just be concerned about making sure the car is prepped and being able to carry fuel. Most the roads there are chill besides washouts. Could also bring a come along and a shovel

Mechanical sympathy is the best mod you can make. Drive appropriate speeds for the roads that you’re on.
The 460 is a Prado in Lexus drag so the bones are strong. If I had one I’d focus on improving the absurd approach angle first with a low profile bumper. Obviously quality all terrains are critical, ideally in the largest size that will fit in your stock spare location. If you plan on carrying a lot of stuff an aftermarket suspension would be a good idea, though you have to get one that works with KDSS.
