I'm just a reddit economist with an Associates Degree in reading financial posts, but wouldn't Samsung still be massively profitable if they gave the bonuses?
space-pasta@reddit
And how do they expect to do that? Are the judges going to run the tools themselves?

The union leaders have been ordered to pay 100 million KRW per day (100K per day, basically) if they do not follow the rules.
Any attempts to sabotage production, such as locking up doors etc. are now legally punishable, giving Samsung legal grounds to sue and fire the workers.
MrX101@reddit
jesus christ, so instead of forcing samsung to improve conditions, forced workers to comply... and then they wonder why their birthrate is so bad.

This is the kind of shit that forces an election.

What in the backwards bullshit is that. Why have a union if you can’t impart a companies bottom line by striking.
mca1169@reddit
have fun with that, the company already started to wind down production. so ordered back to work or not chip production will absolutely be impacted no matter what.

The Chaebols (Korean for "Conglomerate") were created by dictator Park Chung Hee as a means of extended state control over the economy and society. Even after the dictatorship ended, the relationship largely hasn't changed: the Chaebols will extend state power domestically and abroad, in return the State enriches the Chaebols by any means necessary.

samsung is 30% of the country's GDP. I guess they could not care less.

Cheobals gotta eat bro!
P.s. the union should argue that the "chip volume" continues to exist and Samsung is sabotaging it by not paying it's worked a fair share of the profit.
