Advice on GPU

I’m looking to upgrade my GPU from a 1660 ti due low frame rate on newer games such as subnautica 2. looking for a gpu $400-500 that could give me a steady 60 frames on relatively high settings. i also have an i5-9700f and 32gb of ddr4, so i do believe the graphics card is the weakest part of my build. i was considering a 5060 ti 8gb for around 400, but ive seen some posts saying 8gb gpus aren’t worth it nowadays, and the 16gb variant is a couple hundred dollars more expensive. any suggestions or extra info would be great! Thanks for any help!

9060xt 16gb is on the lower end of your price range. If you want to stick with nvidia you will be paying their tax. They're very similar in terms of performance. I got one after having a 2070 and have been very happy with it.
Could also look used, something like a 7700xt/4070 maybe. The 7000 series radeon cards are getting fsr4 soon aswell

what was the swap like from nvidia? i’ve never had anything else so although the price is enticing im a little nervous.

Very little difference. The adrenaline app has some quirks but it's fine.
I was having some driver timeouts until I updated my bios and have never crashed since.

9060xt 16gb. Cheapest on Amazon (USA) is $440. Great alternative if you can't get the 5060ti 16gb especially when the cheapest is $574.

thank you! i had never considered just how much more expensive nvidia cards were until the comments on this post. definitely way more options to consider now.

Yes, spending on an expensive 8GB GPU is not so wise, they are going to age badly. I would suggest the 5060 Ti 16GB, though that one is almost as expensive as the much faster 5070. There is also the RX 9060 XT 16GB from AMD.
You can take the regular 5060, for that price it is decent as a stopover till you aren't happy with the performance anymore. The Ti version is only about 20% faster.
I would look at the TechPowerUp page of the 1660 Ti, it includes a box giving rough estimates of performance differences to almost all GPUs.

If you’re gaming at 1080p, you can grab a Radeon RX 9060XT 16gb for like $440. That will easily get you to ultra 60fps. If your CPU starts to bottleneck you, there’s also the AMD mobo route by getting a 5600 with a b550 mobo and a cheaper GPU like the Arc B580.
