With all these Spirit planes left all over the country, I’ve heard them being ferried with the “Nomadic” callsign a few times over the last month, and I’d never heard of them before. I’m curious about a few things if anyone could answer:
Anyone ever work there?
How much is starting pay?
Are the pilots typed on multiple aircraft or just one type at a time light legacy airlines?
Do they have domiciles or is everyone a commuter?
BeenThereDoneThat65@reddit
They are not even close to what you think they are.
They use contractors for most of their work, so there really isn't a starting pay. As for what types? THEY USE CONTRACTORS
And since they USE CONTRACTORS, everyone is a commuter.

I personally don’t know too much, but I watch a lot of CC and listen to their podcast. Bob is my friend’s uncle, and I only really spoke to him a once. I honestly don’t know much about the pay, that’s kinda a tight lipped thing across the industry in general, it’s probably no where near as good as an airline job given that they will let people without a type rating fly as long as regulations allow. Most of their pilots when they are busy are contracted, and it’s only like six people that actually do full time work for them. Most pilots there have multiple type ratings, and keep them current on top of that. Predominantly most the flight time I’ve seen has come from the 737 and a320 series of aircraft. Everyone is pretty much a commuter. They had a company plane they just sold off that they used for crew repositioning, and I know they’re looking for another as of now. I definitely have an interest in working for them at some point, since traditional airline flying isn’t what I want to do. Say what you want about Bob, everyone has their own reasons for doing what they do, I think he even made a statement somewhere on this Reddit about his reasoning. Call me a scab or a sellout or whatever, I don’t care. Checkout Speedtape Films on YT or Cockpit Casual on Spotify/Apple for their pod. Cheers!
DefundTheHOA_@reddit
You would care being called a scab.
flyindogtired@reddit
You’re talking to a community of people who’s livelihood was undermined by your friends uncle. Don’t expect much sympathy here. There is no reason that’s acceptable to cross a picket line.
yourlocalFSDO@reddit
Everyone has their reasons and they get to deal with the consequences. Eastern scabs destroyed a lot of careers they don’t deserve a pass for that.
Altruistic-Food8098@reddit
This will totally not stir the pot right?
spm_outkast@reddit
The owner, Captain bob I think, is all over social media. Used to be in my algorithm. I think he’s an EAL scab
Conscious-Prune4513@reddit
Scab?
flyingwithfish24@reddit
Someone that crosses a picket line and works for an airline when you as a line pilot are striking for better pay and benefits. There’s a reason anyone labeled a scab in the airline industry is ousted and usually is denied a jumpseat.
Veritech-1@reddit
Haven’t heard of anyone pulling a scab list in a super long time. I did know one crusty dude at the regionals who kept one that he would check for jump seaters.
dudefise@reddit
Someone who worked struck work. Considered to be an extremely low thing to do by all unionized workers, but particularly those directly impacted. Organized labor only works when everyone works together!
x4457@reddit
You think correctly. He's very proudly an Eastern scab.
sprulz@reddit
Also I would encourage everyone who brushes off this fact to read about the Eastern strike to understand why people keep bringing this up.
jlmurdock77@reddit
Who made sure to pay Spirit pilots to ferry the planes to Arizona. What did the union do for the Spirit folks?
sprulz@reddit
Fought to give them one of the best contracts in the industry?
DefundTheHOA_@reddit
\^ probably not even a pilot
x4457@reddit
Doesn't make him any less of a scab. One good deed does not forgive an evil.
DefundTheHOA_@reddit
I said that in another aviation subreddit and got downvoted heavily for it lol
People hate truth
flyingwithfish24@reddit
If you look up cockpit casual you will see the other owner of nomadic. He makes some high quality videos of their ferry missions.
x4457@reddit
Steve is, by all accounts, a pretty great dude.
flyingwithfish24@reddit
I agree with you. Listening to Steve’s story on the pilot to pilot podcast was really neat. Especially when he retold the day he quit allegiant.
CapeGreg767@reddit
Now that I know he is a scab, I would never work for him. Thanks for posting that!

Does Bob have a hand in the socials or is it Steve?
yourlocalFSDO@reddit
I’ll copy and paste my post from r/aviation below. Gets downvoted to hell there but we all know there aren’t many people there who actually understand the industry.
I’ll probably get downvoted again for saying it but for anyone who cares. Bob from Nomadic Aviation/Cockpit Casual is a scab and he’s proud of it. He crossed the picket line at Eastern. Do what you will with that info but I for one have not interest in watching/listening to anything that supports someone like that.
Here he is saying he has no regrets about his decisions https://x.com/captbob_nomadic/status/2048184031062397142?s=46
Here he is saying he was at eastern 89-91 https://x.com/captbob_nomadic/status/2003660038641156297?s=46
Here he is threatening someone who called him out as a scab https://x.com/captbob_nomadic/status/2048432298400645246?s=46
And to top it all off here he is saying that “It was sad seeing the workforce sober up to the reality that they had sacrificed their careers and lifestyles for a cause that only benefited the other air carriers.” When the only reason that was the case was because scabs like him made it so. https://x.com/captbob_nomadic/status/1682794416199843841?s=46
The dude is a total pos and it pisses me off every time I see people who don’t know better touting his company/podcast/whatever.
Pilot0160@reddit
1/2 owners is a scab and working for them as an employee is no better.
And if you want to know the quality of people they hire, they brought on a comedian because he had a social media presence and a tv show.
InteractiveCream@reddit
Fuck Bob Allen
zthunder777@reddit
I wasn’t familiar with them, but this just popped up on my YT a couple days ago from them about repoing the spirit planes. https://youtu.be/moEixIux1b0
x4457@reddit
1) They use contractors for 90% of their pilots, the couple full time guys are very busy. You gotta know someone to get in.
2) Low.
3) The contractors usually not, the full time guys fly up to 6 types at a time.
4) Not applicable. That's not how ferrying aircraft works.
