Vocabulary arguments aside: I'm not opposed to these types of things in principle assuming it sticks to the streets, but I'm not sure what the pedals even add here beyond the "loopholemobile" argument.
I can't imagine the rider is actually contributing to the drivetrain meaningfully... I'd guess without pedal assist active, this thing is probably geared to move 100 ft/hour while laden - if it can move at all.
The pedals make them accelerate, reverse and apparently regen brake if you reverse pedal when there's forward momentum... at least from what I seen from a video a while back. They can turn around like a car, not so much like a bike.
Yeah this is strictly the existence of pedals letting them in the bike lane.
It's a gas pedal that rotates and you're slightly more narrow than a compact car. That doesn't make it a bike just because you're pedaling.
I have no problem with this type of thing becoming normal because I care about the planet, but man... it makes bike lanes so dangerous. Passing them means jumping into either ped or car traffic or even over a curb to get into traffic. If they're not in a bike lane it means they're just really slow cars and that's just gonna annoy every car.
All jokes aside, this thing looks cool as fuck besides the cursed Amazon styling, and I'd love it if micromobility like this was more widespread for personal use in the US over cars, SUVs, and especially fucking pickups. Sadly they'd regulate and ban the shit out of these before that could ever happen, and they're never going to design infrastructure to support better transportation options that aren't as pointlessly expensive and wasteful unless they're forced to at g**point.
I saw a channel on YouTube that reviewed this bike. Apparently it was still considered a bicycle because it had pedals that said he was in the UK. sadly it was frustratingly slow.
I don't think there's anything wrong with these. We need more environmentally friendly last mile delivery options. They just need to use normal car lanes and stay out of bike lanes.

What do those pedals even do? Is the driver meant to just like, step on them? They don't look like they can turn fully around.

what is the groundspeed velocity of an unladen Amazon E-Quad?

Love the idea, but pedals does not a bike make.

Great reminder to boycott Amazon if you’re not already.
WredditSmark@reddit
To the people bitching crying and moaning, you all still buy absolutely everything on Amazon.
talkingspacecoyote@reddit
Hey just bought this same bike on alibaba, what's the unlock code to go 70?

Of course that's the natural consequence. People can't behave and will start doing wild shit with them.
There... It seems that you know the solution!!! /s :)
The car lobby is too strong
Utsider@reddit
It's a ridiculously shit work environment, tho.
parisidiot@reddit
Why? It’s less work then a pedal assist ebike

I saw these in NYC. What a fucking joke. They are electric cargo vans in the bike lanes. Those pedals are ornamental.
Pretty-Yam-2854@reddit
They look like a kei van. Just about the right size too.
