Brass Got Caught Behind Eye-Pro. Be Careful Out There!

Hot brass casing flew perfectly behind my eye protection during the GSSF Northern Lakes Regional Classic match.
GSSF match ROs were professional and made sure I was fine!

Saw this happen in bootcamp w a rifle casing during table 2 shooting. Casing stuck under the dudes eye pro against his face and burnt a line under his eye.

I have actually had this happen to me while wearing a baseball cap. perfectly hit the gap between my cap and glasses. Then wedged itself between my glasses and my eyelid. I now wear shooting glasses that go over my normal glasses.

Massive props to you for keeping that muzzle pointed safely downrange while dealing with a piece of 400-degree metal burning your face. A lot of people instinctively panic and swing the gun around when hot brass bites them, so your discipline here was flawless.
This is exactly why a lot of outdoor ranges and match guys swear by wearing a baseball cap pulled down low. It acts like a literal awning to keep stray brass from dropping straight down behind your eye-pro or shirt collar. Glad the ROs looked out for you and that you're good to go.

Thank you! Funny enough, I turned my cap around since I have my Insta 360 mounded to the "strap" to be closer to my eyes.
We talked about using the baseball cap to deflect brass (as an awning like you said), however, its worth noting that the brim of a baseball cap can also deflect ascending brass into the small gap.

I had the same thing happen, wedged under my eye.
Glasses, no hat.
Has not happened with a cap or hat on.

What camera are you using? Or what mount for your go pro?

Oh yea, after having a light scarred for 6+ months near my right eye, i dont shoot without a hat anymore.

I use 3M Virtua CCS, they have a foam ring around the lenses to prevent debris from entering. Won't shoot Aquila .22 without them.

This happened to me too! The brass was stuck between the arm of the glasses and my temple. I called it “my gunshot wound.”😂

I had one when I was in the military get caught between my flak jacket and neck. Left a nice little scar.

Not fun at all. Had a casing do that years and I remember swiping at my face with one hand while trying to keep the gun pointed down range. Burned the hell out of my cheek and had quite a mark for at least a week.

Injuries to the face, no matter how small are not fun.

I love that the RO is standing nearly 90° to your right lol. Seems like the nearly worst spot to be.
But tbf, your brass is clearly ejecting backwards so 🤷

That one piece wanted to take the path less travelled apparently.
myroll22@reddit
Did it get stuck in your glasses?
HapaPilot@reddit (OP)
I flew right between the small gap between my eye pro and my eyebrow.

I got a shell against my eye lid once time. Bounced back off the lane seoerator and hit perfectly. It hurt like a mofo and left a scar.

Oof. I could only image.
