A few snaps from a recent trip to Big Bend followed by the Davis Mountains scenic loop and a visit to the McDonald Observatory. We then hit Balmorhea State park with a stop at Balmorhea Lake for lunch on the way home.

Please keep an eye on the weather. Chance of Tstorms.

Yeah. We saw that. Definitely will be watching.

I see you face your camp chair towards your rig vs the view behind you. Made me laugh. I do the same

I mean, you have to see the sun go down behind your rig, right?

Just in case you didn't know this sub exists: /r/BigBendTX/

Yes, I was aware. I just didn't post there because so much of this trip was not in the park. And thank you. I love that shot too and we really enjoyed that 70 mile Davis Mountain scenic loop. Beautiful country.

Big Bend is underrated. Loved our last trip there.

Looks so much fun.

I've been meaning to go down there, if you want to share the trip details I'd be curious, like stop points, etc. I can of course try to look up what you posted in the title as well.
Also think its funny the trailer has toyota wheels.

Ha the yoda wheels are always a topic of discussion with my jeep buddy. I put some jeep wheels on it when I first got it but the backspacing was all off and didn't want to use 2 in spacers. And I may be moving to a 4Runner if I can find a good deal.
The title does really cover the route we made during this weekend get away. This was a quick trip. Friday night we stayed at Kbar-1. It was really the only spot available when we decided to book the trip. We then drove down and visited the Santa Elena Canyon and hiked that trail. We then worked our way out of the park and went through Teralingua and north through Alpine on our way to the Davis Mountain scenic loop. 75 mile scenic loop starting at Fort Davis. We made the loop and visited the McDonald observatory. We then drove up to Balmorhea state park and set up camp. We then went back to the observatory for a star party and got to look though some of the telescopes. On the way back home to central tx we stopped and made lunch on the shore of Balmorhea lake.
Hope that helps a bit.

I think it does, unfortunately we don't live in Central Texas anymore. We moved to North West Louisiana, so it would be a hell of a trip, probably have to stop in the hill country or something similar the first night. I like the idea of camping in Balmorhea then heading back to the observatory. I just want to plan a trip for like thanksgiving break or new years or something when its not summer HOT. I've been wanting to take my wife down to Terlingua since we got married, was going to stop by once on a trip back from L.A. and just didn't have time for a detour. Now that my son is older it would be neat to go down and do some hiking.
