Criterion makes FANTASTIC barrels. My favorite gun right now is an 8.5” 300blk with a Criterion Core barrel, and I’ve owned every length they make that’s chrome lined in .223w, in both hybrid and Core profiles. They really are great.

With that being said, my G$ are fuckin’ shooters. I have 2 11.5’s, a 14.5, and a 16”…I don’t need all of them but I can’t make my mind up on what to sell.(I bought into the whole “a gun for every role” phenomenon that the industry has been pushing for the last few years…and more than a couple in one platform is really unnecessary).

G$ is CHF, including the barrel extension…which is overkill for most shooters but I like the durability.

I will never knock Criterion, so I hope this doesn’t get taken that way. Both G$ and Criterion would serve you equally well, so to answer your original question…no, it’s not worth swapping out.

Are you having problems with the G$ barrel or is it shot out?

No, not at all imo. I have both. The criterion has its place but it wouldn’t be go to for a fighting barrel.

Well luckily this gun will never be used for fighting lol. This is my pig hunting gun, which is why I was maybe considering a lighter profile but after some research it appears they’re nearly the same weight

That's going to be completely up to you - unless you have another use for / can sell that barrel or just plan to shoot it out, would likely just hold off. Or just grab the CORE now for when you do burn out the G barrel. Weight and profile preference are always a personal decision, but the modern taper profiles are pretty nice to have especially when you start mounting more stuff on the rifles.

I have several builds. If you mix and match you have to know if it's DPMS (curve like ar15) or AR10 pattern (angle). There is also high and low tang on your upper and handguard.. some smaller parts are specific, like some takedown pins.

What I have.

Aero M5s, Cheap, works, good finish.

MARS-H - overpriced for unique system, Ambi... I had to dremmel a lower to get fitment correctly since it's in a banned state now.

Next Level - Ambi and left hand eject, not terrible price but finish is a little rough.

ADM - Ambi, works and pricy....finish is like older Aero (very nice)

The real things to spend on are barrels, bolts, triggers and handguards... Don't get a cheap handguard that bends.

I would say to take a look at the Centurion MK11 stuff. Pretty underrated and in typical Centurion fashion - they made every individual component available from stripped uppers to complete uppers so you can really get the exact setup you want.
