LACoFD Air ops fighting Grand Fire in the outskirts of Lancaster, CA. They held it just under 55 acres of farm land what appeared to be abandoned trailers.

Never seen a Chinook airtanker before! How much water can that thing carry?
WickerPurse@reddit
Wow. Fantastic shots.

These are some of the coolest pictures I've ever seen in my life.

Anyone know what company the chinook belongs to?
echiao4835@reddit
Technically coulson tan, before it was coulson unical , I used to work at the parent company.

Coulson Aviation - Chinook in action
southpluto@reddit
Seriously top tier.
Madeitup75@reddit
It is in the running for the best aviation photo I have ever seen. Just spectacular.
Final-Carpenter-1591@reddit
Damn. I've been in HEMS and absolutely love it. But this really makes me want to move to fire helis
thissideupfriends@reddit
Do they train civilians too or is it only prior army pilots flying these
Final-Carpenter-1591@reddit
Mostly military, just because that's the best place to get turbine helicopter time.
But their are a few full civilian people

The trailers aren't abandoned. I'm an AV local and its super common for the local tweakers to form large groups of stolen RVs in the middle of the desert to make a tweaker town. they start fires a lot and are most of the time where your stolen dirtbikes/trailers end up
horseheadmonster@reddit (OP)
This was a farm, they were pretty torn up before the fire. They were semi trailers and other farm junk.
AstuteCouch87@reddit
gonna be a busy summer for them
pudyindeepooshoo@reddit
Why is the water out of the Chinook so dark?
WarthogOsl@reddit
I'm not sure if it's the case here, but some planes like the CL 415 are able to mix the water they collect with fire retardant that they have separate tanks for.
Complete_jackass9999@reddit
The same reason clouds vary from white to dark grey, because there's more water drops along that line to absorb the light.
Left_Afloat@reddit
Probably drafting too deep or after the water has been disturbed so you’re getting a ton of silt.
horseheadmonster@reddit (OP)
Not sure, they were going to the same water source.
PeraDetlic90@reddit
Sick photos mate

pinnerjay17@reddit
Looks expensive
akacarguy@reddit
I Wondered what was going on. Saw their H-60 hightail it over my house out of Camarillo.
MonsieurLartiste@reddit
Super shots.
dedgecko@reddit
Dumb question- why’s the dump from the Chinook so dark in comparison to that from the Blackhawk?
Just the extra volume preventing atomization?
rkmvca@reddit
LA County FD has a Chinook?? How awesome is that?
Great pics, OP!
Imprezzed@reddit
It belongs to Coulson Aviation, out of Port Alberni, BC, Canada. Same outfit that operated the Martin Mars.
abhaiyat@reddit
Amazing shots.
Chinooks are based in VNY, get to see those beauties parked everyday and been given a tour.
horseheadmonster@reddit (OP)
It flew up for the first fire yesterday, then back to Van Nuys. When the second fire flared up they returned.
telaftw39@reddit
Gotta be the best, most fun flying.
Deep_Science_5170@reddit
I’m more of a fixed wing fan, but damn is a firefighting Chinook an awesome machine!
horseheadmonster@reddit (OP)
Same, but when the Chinook shows up I have to stick around!
Deep_Science_5170@reddit
Absolutely!
Inner-Thought9665@reddit

horseheadmonster@reddit (OP)
