Timmy died because of human greediness, 30
Days stranded is what killed Timmy , and the ship crew who did not release Timmy in the Atlantic with the scientists check. The German crew not only
Took too long to rescue Timmy but failed to release him in open waters for a safe and effective rescue. If timmy would have been rescued earlier and released in the Atlantic he would be here today! The German scientists failed him.

They were really cagey about the tracking from the get go. I'm kinda wondering if that's because the whale died in transport and they didn't want to admit that they spent all that time and effort to essentially dump a whale carcass.

I don't think he died in transport but shortly after release. I followed the livestream of a self proclaimed news group with a drone in the air on the days around its release.
On Friday evening, it looked like there was a rope attached to its tail and they were pulling it backwards towards the open side of the barge with a dinghy. The news group assumed it was to turn it around so it could swim out on its own. They did not succeed and stopped for the day.
Initially it was claimed he swam out on his own in the night from Friday to Saturday. Then the rescue initiative said they pulled the barge out from under him. Now some claim the captain and his crew pulled the whale out with a towboat against their will.
Either way, when the stream started on Saturday, the news group people did not fly their drone in the morning and were just casually chatting on deck of their boat. Then there were claims that the whale was free so they started the drone and showed a whale close to the barge and other boats surfacing.
My assumption is that the captain pressured to release the whale, because he wasn't able to maneuver more towards the North Sea/open seas because of his license and because the barge is not suitable for higher waves, so there would be insurance difficulties if something would happen. Apparently whales cannot swim backwards and the barge was to small for the whale to turn around. They tried with the dinghy on Friday evening and failed, so they used the towboat on Saturday morning and told the news group not to film. It's likely the whale got hurt but either way his overall weakness and condition would have lead to it drowning pretty soon.

OK now this is just fucking confusing.
The story from before was they did try rescuing for like five days and then gave up and then the minister said that the whale should just be allowed to die, then the minister decided you know what it looks good as a PR stunt to say I was in favor of all this time. Now the backtracking again.
Can they not make up their damn mind.

All whale rescue experts said, from the very beginning, to leave the whale alone because any help would cause way more pain and suffering. Turns out the experts were right, like they often are.

"Absolutely all the experts said that the whale was dying either way and most likely INTENTIONALLY stranded itself on a sandbank so it can at least breathe easily during it's final days. The reason it was on the sandbanks was not because "it was lost" but because it no longer had the strength to swim for more than short bursts."
