@Reddit is testing possibility to force you to use app only.

u/Reddit, it is simple, if you force me to change to use your app instead, it is time to cancel my account. Dont be Microsoft, META and Google. There is a thing called privacy.

How do we support social media without mining users for data?
Reddit is going to do whats best for shareholders. What’s best is keeping content in app where nobody can scrape it. That way they can sell the data.
Time will tell but I think alts struggle because the creators have to pay for it eventually. I don’t know any other alts being as transparent about our future. We’ll be here if Reddit does force everyone onto the app. r/tribesapp

I like the website while logged off because I actually want to see new stuff and not get stuck in the curated feeds with their limited and biased advertiser pushed content.
