26/50 our most famous island state… Alaska! Unrelenting positivity post.

This is our newest unrelenting positivity post.
The state in question is the great state of Alaska.
To all our foreign friends give a shout ask questions send praise. To our Americans do the same.
Ask questions, share stories, make jokes. Just remember not to be a jerk.
Recall the famous phrase my grandma invented “if you don’t have anything nice to say don’t say anything that isn’t redemptively funny.”
Stay tuned for 27/50 after this one.
The states are in random order based on my whim at the moment.
BurnerCommenter@reddit
This is the first time I’m tuning in and it’s a neat concept. Just to clarify, Alaska is not an island (though it has little islands around it) at best it’s a peninsula but in reality is just a large land mass attached to Canada.
cryerin25@reddit
whoosh lmao
BurnerCommenter@reddit
I’m diagnosed autistic I didn’t realize this was supposed to be a joke my bad
GhostOfJamesStrang@reddit
Even somebody with autism should be capable of realizing OP wasn't this stupid.
BurnerCommenter@reddit
Clearly not. Humor does not translate well over text.
GhostOfJamesStrang@reddit
It isn't a matter of humor....
It's that you genuinely think OP is stupid.
BurnerCommenter@reddit
You’re telling me what I’m thinking about another person?
GhostOfJamesStrang@reddit
Yes. It is quite clear what you think.
BurnerCommenter@reddit
Well I’ll be. You’re the expert I guess. All hail GhostofJamesStrang, the Redditor who can read minds based off 2 comments. He’s so good, he told me what I was thinking when even I didn’t know I was thinking it! /s
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
Strangy… “this” is doing a lot of heavy lifting in that sentence
GhostOfJamesStrang@reddit
I said what I said.
cryerin25@reddit
me also! i think generally, if something is extremely, obviously false line this and not a single one of the dozen or so comments is correcting them, i would assume it is a joke and not just that everyone else is suddenly an idiot, lol.
BurnerCommenter@reddit
That’s fair. Normally I can use context to pick it up but when I started writing the comment there was only like 1-2 other comments posted and unfortunately I do come into conversations on the internet assuming everyone else is an idiot or troll
cryerin25@reddit
very fair, lol. they often are!
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
The joke is where it is on the map. Hawaii is Cuba.
GhostOfJamesStrang@reddit
Have you never looked at a map? Alaska has some peninsulas, but it is clearly an island in the Pacific ocean.
jephph_@reddit
Have you ever even looked at a map of the US? It’s definitely an island; right next to Hawaii
TheFuckerofWorlds@reddit
Island?
DontRunReds@reddit
In fairness, a lot of us in Alaska live on islands. Mostly in Southeast Alaska or Kodiak, but some others too.
oh_such_rhetoric@reddit
A little joke about how Alaska often appears on the map like this since it isn’t connected to the rest of the US. And a non-zero number of people think it’s an island because of that.
The map that /u/CupBeEmpty is using for this is especially funny because it puts Alaska where Hawaii would usually be and Hawaii is over by Florida.
ThrowAwayIGotHack3d@reddit
I'm so glad I'm not the only one who noticed that
Xanadu_Fever@reddit
There's a not-insignificant portion of people who think Alaska is an island next to Hawaii because of how maps draw them floating off to the side of the lower 48...
ThrowAwayIGotHack3d@reddit
I love Alaska! I dream of going there someday, however, it's uh, not an island?
CupBeEmpty@reddit (OP)
It clearly is. Do they not teach map reading skills in school anymore?
PhilTheThrill1808@reddit
Gorgeous, especially in the summer.
And as someone who lives in one of the largest US metro areas to exist, there is definitely an appeal to having so few people scattered around so large an area.
ice_princess_16@reddit
There will be 24 hours of daylight for the next 2 months in Fairbanks. It bothers some people but if you live there and get used to it there’s nothing like it. The ability to sit on your deck in daylight at 10 pm and have a drink or visit with friends or take a walk is wonderful.
Extension-Respond289@reddit
yo, alaska's vibe is totally different from anywhere else, like, the wildlife encounters are insane, and don't get me started on the seafood, fresh salmon is life lol. who's been snowboarding up there? gotta try it once!
PacSan300@reddit
I have only been to Alaska once, and it was with my family almost 23 years ago. I still remember how spectacularly beautiful the landscapes were. It was especially awe-inspiring to see the glaciers at Glacier Bay and Kenai Fjords. Juneau might honestly be one of the most scenic state capitals I have visited. Denali looked majestic from within the national park, and going to the Arctic Circle was a cool experience too with lots of great scenery along the way.
Would definitely love to revisit sometime.
Ok_Gas5386@reddit
It’s mind boggling how much nature is packed in Alaska per square mile. A glimpse of the Eden this continent once was.
Ordinary_Dream_4304@reddit
alaska is wild, man. the landscapes are unreal and the Northern Lights? like nothing else. anyone else tried dog sledding? that was a trip lol
GooseInHats@reddit
Easily one of most beautiful states we have and I absolutely want to go someday.
Soggy-Attempt@reddit
Next to Australia, probably the most populace place where all the animals are trying to kill you. 🤣
Soggy-Attempt@reddit
Awesome in the summer, brutal in the winter.
NeighborhoodStroller@reddit
Years later, I still smile remembering how one of the seafood stands in Seattle's Pike Place Market offered clam chowder in two sizes: the smaller bowl was "Texas-sized" and the larger bowl was "Alaska-sized".
Grunt08@reddit
Best camping trip of my life was one night in Denali. Got tracked by bears, drank a beer in an ice cave after not realizing I'd been walking on a glacier for about five minutes, slept in driving rain and walked out.
Coolest ever.
And on the same trip we visited the Alaska State Fair and they had some incredible elk sandwiches and I got like four to take with me on the drive.
mhoner@reddit
Tracked by bear is probably not a good selling point.
Grunt08@reddit
It was more fun than it sounded. If I'd been eaten, obviously different story.
upvoter222@reddit
Seeing the massive amount of fish in the waters by Ketchikan was one of the most impressive things I've ever seen.
FunctionalAdult@reddit
I am deeply grateful to everyone who goes out on fishing and crabbing vessels - Alaska produces some of the best seafood available and it is not an easy thing to get out of the sea and to those of living elsewhere.

absolutely beautiful place
