1984
Still a kid.
Middle school
This album came out
And was huge
Hell even in 1987
When I dance my fist slow dance
With H.A.J.
This song played.
Its slow rhythm
Music of a lost generation
A slowwq dance
For the end of life....

My #1 favorite song.

There’s a video floating around of the first public performance of Purple Rain.
They caught lightning in a bottle that night, because apparently that’s the recording on the album.

He was a great musician and song writer. I find it mind blowing that he is not even in the top 50 best selling musical artists of all time. In fact, he ranks number 62.

I agree. He was a great entertainer that needs to be to 30 at least. There problem is think was after PURPLE RAIN he didn't have much in the wway of money making albums. He wass an artist. He didn't care about writing hit songs, he wanted to practice hissa passion for art.

I think you nailed it. Prince has an extremely small window of commercial success (1981-1987). Everything after was more of what he wanted rather than mass audiences. I don't remember anything from him after 1991.

Have you seen the live in Syracuse 1985 footage? You never think it's possible that he had an even better version than the original recording, but IMO, this is it. 16 minutes long. Somehow, it makes you even sadder, even more melancholy, and even more grateful you grew up with the song.

I appreciate his skill in playing a guitar but I just was never a Prince fan. Seen the movie several times and it just never did it for me.

Stranger Things ruined this song for me

In the 80s I had a boyfriend who was obsessed with Prince. Boyfriend? Not so great. Prince? Obsessed. So thank you for introducing me to one of the greatest music artists of all time, you absolute fuckstick.
