You have to leave the UK and work remotely, you can’t move to NZ, AUS or Canada, where are you moving to?

Personally I’m moving to Spain, it’s my life goal. I’m a major sun person and love the cuisine. I also love how different north and south are.
GrownDandilion@reddit
Republic of Ireland or Japan both have great food and lovely people
JGlover92@reddit
Foods not the first thing I think of with Ireland by a distance. Not saying it's bad but compared to Japan it's night and day
_Happy_Camper@reddit
You’ve obviously not been to Ireland. Food quality is so much better than the UK.
Also by the way, Japan is FULL of racists
TheCosmicGypsies@reddit
Tbh after living in Japan for bloody ages I'd rather have Ireland's food, really miss good bread, cheese, sarnies etc.
humblepaul@reddit
I've been to Ireland and that's a ludicrously naive statement. There's good food I both countries, but UK has more international food and Michelin *s.
I've friends from UK that lived in Japan with their Japanese wives. Can confirm they don't welcome foreigners with open arms. All your mail will be searched for one thing. Then there's the radioactive food, constant earthquakes...
ItsKingDx3@reddit
I've lived here for two years and actually felt one single earthquake.
JGlover92@reddit
Did I say anything about the UK? Been to Ireland plenty. Food is perfectly fine, not even close to Japan, Spain, Italy for example and it's insane to even put Ireland or the UK anywhere near those
Left_Hippo7282@reddit
I can assure you England has far more racists than Ireland having lived in both countries for decades
Leafooo@reddit
As someone who goes to Ireland several times a year and has done for 25 years... I don't think this is true.
Any big city in the UK has much better food than anywhere in Ireland in my opinion.
Left_Hippo7282@reddit
Produce definitely miles better. The dairy and meat from Ireland is leagues ahead of mainland UK.
Emotional-Start7994@reddit
Very good liquid food though
International-Wear57@reddit
Hard for a foreigner to integrate in Japan if you don’t plan on learning Japanese
HAH-PAH@reddit
The key is to not to force integration onto the Japanese but see yourself as a guest of the Japanese as that’s how they see foreigners. This is the approach PewDiePie has and it works well for his family.
The Japanese would never accept non-ethnic Japanese as Japanese, hell, they don’t even accept half-Japanese or Brazillian/American Japanese as Japanese, and they detest Koreans and Chinese communities who have lived in Japan for centuries and are fluent and indistinguishable physiologically. So there’s little hope for a westerner to be ‘integrated’ as such.
W51976@reddit
Would love to visit there, but not to live.
SlaBLister@reddit
Lovely people? Absolute lunacy. Ires are not pleasant, putting it lightly. And the Japanese will discriminate against anyone who isn't Japanese and wasn't born and raised there. They even discriminate against Japanese Brazilians
EatingCoooolo@reddit (OP)
You don’t care for bad weather?
spLint3r990@reddit
No such thing as bad weather just bad clothing.
I know it's cliche but it does ring true.
JourneyThiefer@reddit
Good clothing can’t make it sunny to be fair lol
MonkeysMonolith@reddit
I don’t know why you’re being downvoted.
Ireland takes the brunt of our storms and Japan is a humid sweat box.

You know how much they hate the English, right?
jar_jar_LYNX@reddit
For some reason we Scots get away with it despite the fsct surely they must know that all those Protestants in the North with Scottish surnames can't be just a coincidence. They even have a dialect called Ulster Scots. But somehow still, every Irish person I meet treats me like we are brothers in arms against the English
Baskham@reddit
The enemy of my enemy is my friend
Honestly though, I think it’s majorly old grudges like the English hating the French. I’ve been Ireland and N. Ireland 5/6 times (as an Englishman) and always been met with friendly people. Yes there’s some places I wouldn’t go in Belfast but generally you’re ok in my experience

For me, it’s quite a few countries. Most likely the Caribbean, given my British Caribbean heritage. It would be a dream to return home and work remotely for British or international companies, earning a wage in British pounds or US dollars.
Barbados, Antigua and Trinidad are top contenders as I’m from those countries. Malta and Cyprus are also on my list. They’re islands with a Mediterranean lifestyle and English is the official and widely spoken language, so I don’t have to learn another one.
Finally, Spain is a possibility. It’s a short flight from the UK and I love the lifestyle there. Plus, it’s much cheaper to live a better quality of life in Spain compared to the UK.

appletinicyclone@reddit
Bavaria isn't friendly to all people. My friend who is also from a minority moved near there for work and he told me just the scale of the racism problem he dealt with.

I've never experienced more hostile and rude wait staff than in Bavaria. (And no we weren't misbehaving or anything). Just insanely off the charts rude for no reason. Surprised to hear the rest of the people are friendly.

Ireland because I am half-Irish and could easily obtain citizenship (and actually plan to). I'm also training to be a doctor and in Ireland my qualification will be recognised without a language issue or further exams.
I can speak French to an advanced level so that would be another option, but I think it would take me 1-2 years to reach true fluency, unless I did an accelerated immersion course or something.
If language wasn't an issue and/or I had a different job, somewhere in Scandinavia would also be considered. I adore their landscapes, the languages are beautiful (in my opinion!), and I really dislike hot weather. I also have some Norwegian ancestry so there's an element of kinship and connecting with one's roots (similar feeling In Ireland.
EatingCoooolo@reddit (OP)
One of the things that motivates me to stay in shape is hot weather and I’m always going somewhere hot and dining al fresco is my vibe. I wanted to get married on a beach in Mexico but it didn’t happen that way.
ItAintNoUse@reddit
I'm the other way around! Exercise makes you hot enough without having to do it in the heat, I find it so much easier to keep my routine in colder weather because I can work out comfortably and have the nice cool climate to stop me overheating.

Most companies won’t let you work remotely in a foreign country due to tax implications and network security.
Guy I hated at work got fired for taking his laptop on holiday for a week.
EatingCoooolo@reddit (OP)
Network security isn’t an issue. Last year I sent all sort of laptops to people as far as Japan when they started at our company.
Working remotely won’t be an issue at all.
D0wnb0at@reddit
For your company, yeah.
AutomaticInitiative@reddit
Network security isn't an issue if they have a VPN set up which if they have remote employees, they should.
My company allowed a Mexican employee to travel there to see her family for a month and she worked from there. Holidays are not an issue. Living there is.
D0wnb0at@reddit
Yeah I work for a bank so we definitely have VPN’s. But they don’t let people work abroad. TBH I was stoked when they got rid of him, and didn’t really care why. But they saw he was on WiFi outside the UK and fired him.
DoctorRaulDuke@reddit
did he go somewhere specific? you can’t get fired for taking your laptop on holiday where I work, but as a high security company we do have to declare where we are going when we leave the country, and If its high risk will get told to not take phone, laptop etc. if someone ignores that, they could get fired then.

Hong Kong - Happy enough in a small apartment, the opportunity to learn Cantonese. The food. The English/Chinese culture clash. It's super fun.
France (rural South) - nearby. Slower pace if life. Cheapish property in the Dordogne. Language is easy enough. Weather is good.
Frogad@reddit
US of course
Shitelark@reddit
Why 'of course'?
Frogad@reddit
My partner is there, and I have lots of friends there and opportunities will be better. I'll also have an easier time partaking in certain hobbies and potentially achieve some aspirations over there
Shitelark@reddit
Might also be shot there.
Frogad@reddit
I guess that does suck, but where my gf lives is super safe, and much nicer than where I live in the UK. The only area I've personally found safer was, like, the SW London suburbs.
Shitelark@reddit
Come to Cheshire, there is also cheese.
V8boyo@reddit
Depends on the wage. Hawaii if it's unlimited. Denmark if not.

Japan.
leah_amelia@reddit
Probably Ireland, I have a genuine plan to move there if things get really bad for trans people here. If not there, then Germany because I speak a reasonable level of German to get started there.
Pier-Head@reddit
Malta, Cyprus, Ireland
No-K-Reddit@reddit
Most of Europe would be fine I think, but I'd pick Malta first
Atlantean_Raccoon@reddit
I wouldn't mind Svalbard or somewhere else that has polar nights
Atlantean_Raccoon@reddit
I wouldn't mind Svalbard or somewhere else that has polar nights
Corpexx@reddit
Probably Turkey
Fluffy_Ad2274@reddit
I could definitely fancy Turkey. Though the cost of living is pretty high.
Corpexx@reddit
Not quite so bad if you’re on a British wage probably
Rubostars@reddit
Belgium, France or Hong Kong
HighPriestess29@reddit
Love Spanish food too.

Germany or NL.
Upbeat-Fish-3348@reddit
I'd personally choose Thailand, never been but from what I've seen I think I'd love life out there.
anotherbozo@reddit
Ireland. That's the only place Brits can now move to without a visa 🫠
DollySheep32@reddit
Probably back to France - I speak French so no language barrier and I already know how things (tax etc) work there so not a huge amount to adapt to.
TorynotTrotsky@reddit
I’m from Malaysia originally so I’d move back
DigitalStefan@reddit
Finland. They know how to run a country correctly.

If I have to work remotely why cant I do it from the UK if anywhere else except NZ Aus or Canada are ok, & why cant it also be done from there?
No-Championship9542@reddit
Obviously USA is the answer with the others or not
EatingCoooolo@reddit (OP)
So far it looks like everyone wants to move to Japan.
apeliott@reddit
It's pretty good here.
Not perfect by a long shot and there are a ton of issues, but it suits a lot of people.

Icy_Attention3413@reddit
I’ll take the Black Forest, Cyprus, Samos or maybe The Bahamas thanks.
DatGuy82772@reddit
Ireland.
Anaptyso@reddit
Same. There's plenty of other countries which sound like nice places to live, but Ireland would be one of the few without a language barrier to overcome. I'd be OK attempting that, but I have kids and it would be a lot easier for them to go to schools speaking English. Also I imagine that the degree of culture shock would be pretty low there.
My back up choice would be Greece, if I could keep my current job and work remotely. My wife and kids have Greek citizenship, and we can speak some very basic Greek between us so have a bit of a headstart on being able to settle there.
EatingCoooolo@reddit (OP)
One of the reason I took out English speaking countries is so you can learn a new language.Spanish would be my 4th.

Germany. Somewhere in Rhineland Pfalz. Mainly because I lived there before, I speak the language now, and its the wine region.
MuayJudo@reddit
Cyrpus because that's where I'm from, or a Greek island.
If that's cheating because I speak the language (which I assume is the reason for not allowing those countries), then I'd choose Costa Rica.
EatingCoooolo@reddit (OP)
One of my best friend’s parents moved there after retirement and I want my honeymoon in Cyprus. I would move there for the food alone but might not stay there because I think the population is low (correct me?).
Sarrebas89@reddit
Ireland or Norway, I think.

Sealand. It has technically been in British territorial waters ever since the territory was expanded in 1987, but I choose to recognise Sealand as a legitimate micronation.

Same Spain, in particular Barcelona. Visited that city as a tourist, it was beautiful. Great food, football and beaches. The only issue will be local people who aren't keen on anymore people coming to the city.
Other than that I would move to NYC, sure it has crime but there's something about that city. I love the vibe of it. The diversity, and food choices, fashion etc.

So many choices! Japan, Barbados, South Korea, Iceland, or Denmark for me.
EatingCoooolo@reddit (OP)
What’s your criteria? Mine is mostly food and different climates in the same country.
Euphoric_Memory5671@reddit
South Korea or Japan, every country has drawbacks but being able to remote work for a UK company would take out a major one haha.
IFornicus@reddit
Cyprus, extended family time
mdmnl@reddit
Is that Sealant place still an option?
Fort Boyard?
If I'm really working remotely I think I could make peace with somewhere in the U.S.A. with low cost of living. Would have to keep quiet on politics but I reckon Wyoming is easy on the eye.
